Saddest song Ever!

Archive: 24 posts

So I was watching a Jim Varney marathon on HBO... and somewhere between Ernest goes to Space, and Ernest kills a Nun, I remembered this song...

YouTube - Gee I'm Glad It's Raining

It has to be the only time Ernest ever made anyone cry...

another sad song is Adam's song by Blink 182...its a really cool guitar riff and the feel of it is kind of upbeat but the words will make you really sad; its about their friend adam who killed himself and they made his suicide note into a song2009-02-17 20:58:00

in Adam's song? I need to listen to it again to catch them...the saddest part in that song IMO is the "please tell mom that it's not her fault."2009-02-17 21:19:00

I was singing that part lol. I love that song. I know the main guitar riff for it. But I must be a noob I don't get the cobain reference other than he was contridicting himself w/ taking his time and hurrying up. I always thought he must of been talking about a time adam spilled a cup or something.

must be nirvana lyrics?

Come
As you are
As you were
As I want you to be
As a friend
As a friend
As a known memory
Take your time
Hurry up
The choice is your
Dont be late
Take a rest
As a friend
As a known memory
Memory ah
Memory ah
Memory ah

seems like theres a couple other references in it, but I dont remember right now, been a while since Ive heard it, and everytime I start to sing it in my head Its like "I never thought, Id Die alone, I laughed the Loudest, Who'd of known, I traced the cord back to the wall, na na nana na na na na nana nana na na nana na say it aint so, i will no go!!..****"

Pearl Jam's cover of "Last Kiss" moves me like nothing else. Vedder's wails at the end of the song are so powerful and haunting that it's almost otherworldly...

The section in bold below sends shivers up my spine and puts a lump in my throat every time I hear it. Truly sad...

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, up straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sound that night
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass
The painful scream that I heard last.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm rollin' through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling just a little while."
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I would miss
But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
Oooh~ ooooh~

The end title song, "Into the West", for the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King movie. Composed by Howard shore, performed by Annie Lenox. Beautiful, haunting, this farewell song brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.2009-02-21 13:32:00

"Seize the Day", "Dear God" and "Gunslinger" by Avenged Sevenfold are a few sad songs I know.

hmm... i never found them very sad? well, seize the day maybe, but i never really thought taht until i saw the video. Gunslinger was written about war, and M.Shadows said he wrote it about soldiers in iraq, it's not particularly sad, nor have i ever found it to be so, and dear god... i guess that can be sad, but again, i always thought it wasn't. maybe it is how you interpret the lyrics?

sad song i can think of would be early sunsets over monroeville by my chemical romance off their first album....

YouTube - Early Sunsets Over Monroeville, MCR

lyrics:My Chemical Romance's Early Sunsets Over Monroeville - Lyrics - Late dawns and early sunsets, just like my favorite scenes
Then holding hands and life was perfect, just like up on the screen
And the whole time while always giving
Counting your face among the living

Up and down escalators, pennies and colder fountains
Elevators and half price sales, trapped in by all these mountains
Running away and hiding with you
I never thought they'd get me here
Not knowing you'd change from just one bite
I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And well should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...
And in saying you loved me,
Made things harder at best,
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains,
And there's no room in this hell,
There's no room in the next,
And our memories defeat us,
And I'll end this direst.

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
But does anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...
And in saying you loved me,
Made things harder at best,
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains,
And there's no room in this hell,
There's no room in the next,
But does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed?

My Immortal by Evanescence is pretty sad.

YouTube - Evanescence - "My Immortal" Official Video

One of a saddest songs I've ever heard is "The Hill" from the film "Once"

YouTube - ONCE : The Hill

Also one of the most moving (not necessarily saddening) pieces of music I've ever heard is "Evey Reborn" from the film "V for Vendetta". Takes a while to get started, give it a chance. The last minute or so fills me with emotion every time I hear it.

YouTube - Dario Marianelli - V For Vendetta Soundtrack - Evey Reborn

Oh and "Run" by Snow Patrol if you consider that the song is supposed to be about a person in a coma. The lyrics took on a new meaning for me when I heard that.

YouTube - Snow Patrol - Run

Oh and I completely agree regarding "Into the West". If you've seen the Appendices DVDs from the Extended version of the film you'll see that the song was partially inspired by a guy named Cameron Duncan, an aspiring filmmaker who died prematurely. His story is very sad and it's what I think of when I hear that song.

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to shed any degree of emotion for Evanescence simply for reasons of being Evanescence. They are just a tad too emo for my tastes.

When it comes to emotional songs, the ending song of Eternal Sonota "Kyotenka" almost put me at tears. The lyrics are sung in such a deep tone that it's very hard to not feel anything. Every single note to vocal just rings so deep that I find it incredibly harmonious and almost depressing.

On a second note, The Flashbulb had an album called "These Open Fields" that I originally thought to be fairly decent and a bit more "mature" than his other albums and I enjoyed it. At least, that was until I found out his reasons for making the album, and after researching it the album caused me to shed a few tears (I found out that he wrote the album to simulate through song what he was feeling in the 2-3 weeks after his Grandfather had died).

Sometimes a song can have different meanings when you discover its history and all the passion that went into to making it. Chopin's "Grand Valse Brillante" is a very charismatic piece that sounds upbeat and happy to most, but to those who know the truth behind the song the entire experience reaches another layer and level of emotion.

This is also why I can't appreciate rap/hip hop music: There is no passion. There can be stories, but the heart is missing.
