Sky Town

I may have made a thread for this level before, but now I am trying F4F. The level is called Sky Town and my username is logan1223

The level is set in the sky, up in a sky town. Then you go to an airship and then run from an enemy airship bombing you.

Hello! Thanks for reviewing my level. In return, here's my review of Sky Town.

The good stuff:
- This is a very beautiful level! Aesthetics-wise, it was very pleasing to the eye. It's cool how you made most of your pistons invisible, which further gave Sky Town the appearance of really being afloat in the air.
- Interesting premise! I've always loved the idea of floating towns/cities. You gave yours a really mystical/fantastical feel. I actually wanted to see more of this world you created (secretly hoping for a sequel, hehe).
- Cool characters! Loved the weird bear-kid with the lobster arm.
- That giant-wheel-contraption ride at the end was ingeniously designed and really fun.
- Score bubbles!


Stuff that need improvement:
- Hide some of your switches... there are numerous magnetic keys/switches and sensor switches that can be seen in plain sight strewn throughout the level. They're kind of distracting and make your level seem "artificial".
- This level might benefit from a little more challenge. There aren't really that many enemies or challenging obstacles/puzzles in Sky Town. It would be cool too if we could somehow get a good look at the enemy airship. I hope you still have a little therm left so you can make some additions.
- Well, this third point is a more personal opinion. I love the Metal Gear soundtrack. Unfortunately, every time I hear a Metal Gear track, I immediately think Metal Gear. It's a little distracting, because you're so immersed in the world of Sky Town, and then suddenly you hear an MGS track and you suddenly can't help but think of that other game.


Overall, a really good level, but it can be made even better with just a few more improvements. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Ok, I took notes...

Aside from the switches and things MostEvilMilo brought up, I thought I would give my take on it.

I love the details. The propellers on the ships are cool.
I thought the big block of dissolve you are suppose to tug away didn't seem to fit. the jetpack doesn't reach it, and then you get on the ground and just tug till you find a hole... It doesn't have the detail the rest of the level has... Maybe consider painting it with stickers.

I really thought the trees were cool.

When I got to the moving platform with the jetpack on it that goes to the cannon, I discovered that you can drop down behind the platform, with no way to go... either fry yourself or jump. Maybe make it so you can't fall past it... And you don't know about the way to the cannon immediately, because it is in the back. Maybe switch that around, or hang an arrow in the sky or something.

I noticed that some radios show.

In the attack section, When you get on the platforms, you can see the whole area, but right before that, when you are standing on the side, you can't, and so it makes it harder to time it from the beginning - maybe widen the cameras view, or add another camera.... And you don't immediately know where your platform ends, so you can mistakenly walk off the right for a cheap death. On the left side of this, when you get to the first staircase right before the spawn point, it is easy to jump over the stairs and fall right down that hole... You might want to fill that up so you don't let your moment take you too far.

Anyway... I gave it my heart!
