DV's Level Contest #2: The Results
*nom nom* Let's see how it all wraps up! *nom nom*

Despite starting right around the end of two major contests, SFC1 and LBPC12, our own little acronymized competition continued quickly after the first DVLC, seeing what the community would make when the theme was more, well, delectable. Ending with three entries by BLAHBLAHneeb, bonner123, and Bombirds, we once again saw a nice variety between each level for this series of contests. Unfortunately, my lack of ninja-mode platforming skills made the judging period a bit of a wild ride. You see, despite only having to play three levels, there was one level in particular that despite over a hundred and fifty plays, I just couldn't seem to beat for quite some time. I don't want to hurt the poor creator's feelings, just know that it rhymes with.. er... "Schmesderelda's Smack Yak: Prepare to Shine." so I'd just like to apologize for the delays. Here, we are, ladies and gentlemen. The winner of "DVLC2: Food for Thought" is...

Bonner123, for [DVLC2] Esmerelda's Snack Shack: Prepare to Dine! (http://lbp.me/v/qrqs5p9)

Big congratulations to bonner123 for a lovingly crafted twist on the food-centric theme for this contest. Using all kinds of platforming mechanics to perform some well-timed parkour moves around the monstrous Esmerelda blob in this brooding mansion was great. Voice acting, music selection, and additional hazards all felt polished, too. Bonner even managed to put the memorizer to great use in several different ways, most notably with the 'Leftovers' mechanic, which encouraged numerous playthroughs where you can keep achieving an additional set of points by reaching where you died in the last attempt. With this great feature, it should make for a fantastic spin on the standard high-score challenge. Great challenge and great job!

As part of winning, the creator listed in the spoiler above will receive a $20.00 PSN code (US), a creator interview which I'll try setting up ASAP, and the top spot in a level hub for the contest, which I'll also.. er.. start working on soon. There is of course bragging rights and the joy from having won that goes along with it. As for the other two who entered within the publishing window, your levels will also be featured in the contest hub, plus you'll get a shout-out in the interview. Thanks to those who helped support this contest, whether by entering, trying to enter but falling short, following this contest, asking questions, spreading the word, or what have you. I'll be happy to share my thoughts from the judging on each entry if you guys want, and while there could only be one winner, I hope you guys had a fun time entering!

Yes, although I still have to get to work on that hub, and the interview with the winner is currently underway. It'll probably be a few weeks until DVLC3 starts though (so late June or early July), as I'll need to cool down from the contests for a bit.

Thanks for the kind words by the way. ^^

I can't believe I forgot to post here!

Thanks a lot, it was a really fun competition. Each entry was very fun to play and it was a tight competition. Hopefully future contests will muster more entries, these are really great themes.

Thanks for the kind words bonner and Sandro.

A bit of an update by the way:

The creator interview and the contest hub are both underway, although I expect to finish the hub pretty quickly. As for future DVLCs, I was expecting to do a whole array of them, but I do realize things will get busier for me later in the year, plus the LBP3 reveal does change things a bit for me. I'm excited for LBP3, of course, but I think I'm going to use it as a stopping point for the contest. It seems kind of abrupt, but I knew I'd be happy just doing several of these anyway. So as I said, DVLC3 is scheduled to start around late June or early July. Aside from that, there should be two more DVLCs, maybe three if I'm very speedy with it or if LBP3 gets delayed, which I wouldn't actually be surprised by. So basically, I want all of these contests to be on LBP2, for my own reasons.

I'm like super hyped for the interview (because I adore bonner and basically everything he replies to) and for future DVLC's. Hopefully I'll find (forcefully) the energy to participate in future contests.2014-06-15 21:41:00

Thanks a lot, Dawn. I really enjoyed your DVLC1 entry, and seeing returnee creators would certainly make things even more interesting. ^^

By the way, the DVLC2 Level Hub is up, and you can find it here. (http://lbp.me/v/qr3-k76) Each of the three entries gets its own little podium, and I even hid a fun little secret in there for those who explore hard enough inside the food-themed palace. As for the interview, bonner and I just finished up the Q&A, and I expect to be able to stitch it all together with some lovely pictures tomorrow, with the interview also posted at some point tomorrow. If something weird happens for whatever reason and it isn't posted tomorrow, then.. well, I guess it'll be the day after tomorrow. Also, DVLC3 is currently set to officially begin on Friday, June 20th. Let's see if I can stick to that date or not, heh. Until then, I'll simply say this: Expect something a little different from the two previous contests.
