[Survival challenge] Platforms of doom!

Archive: 8 posts

Level name: Survival challenge: Platforms of doom!
PSN ID: Jidery
Dis: Try to survive the platorms of doom in this exciting survival challenge! (Also my first ever survival challenge) Currently still being tweaked and fixed, but mostly functional. This level will be entering the contest as part of LBP central, so any tips would be appriciated. As i am currently trweaking it making it easyer in some parts, and harder in others, the score bubbles dont flow as fast as intended, and will spawn at a faster rate at the final update, so as to prevent high scores in the begining.

There are 7 (soon to be 8) different colored platforms Green, blue and red that are suspended. You start the challenge by hitting the start button, moving the gate and the button away. Each platform does a diffrent thing.

-Red: Drops little cylinders of fire, easily jumped over.
-Green: Periodicly lights up and drops several bombs forcing you to be off the green, or you die instantly
-Blue: Periodicly drops to the floor.

After about 30 seconds things start to get crazyer.

After 30 seconds:
-2 lazer cannons are brought into the level, one on each side, shooting at sack boy with a slow travailing lazer every 5 seconds. Easly avoided by going to the middle of the level

After 1 min:
-Red platforms occationaly drop fire and electric cylinders. Causing more of a challenge.
-Blue platforms drop much faster, and stay down longer
-Green platforms should now be at full speed.

After 1 min 30 second:
-A new lazer is introduced in the middle of the level, shooting at sack boy every 1 second.

Things to do:
-Lower the dificulty in the begining.
-Add instructions
-Add a "Start" sticker to the button

Requests:
-I would like:
-Any comments on how to improve the level
-Any bugs or glitches you find
-Any name recomendations, as i do not like the name of the level
have fun =)

I'm a work, so I can't check it out yet, but could you give me a rundown of what the challenge is? I understand there are platforms involved? lol2009-02-16 23:39:00

Hi. Just played your level.

+ I like the idea of the different lights that tells wich hazard will try to kill you.

- Instead of a button to start the challenge, put a sensor right at the start so we don't have to push it. But before that...

- You should add a zone explaining the challenge before it starts.

- Pump up the visuals! You only have 3 rooms to create, the start, the challenge itself and the end. Make them look good!

- The electrified objects falling from the top : If you jump at the same time they spawn, you can't dodge them. Kinda frustrating.

- If you go at the right edge of the last platform to the right, you can stay there forever (at least 4-5 minutes in my playtest). I just had to take the score bubbles that spawn directly on this platform and and got the highest score just by doing this.

+ I'll be back to see what improvements you make in the future version because this can be a pretty fun challenge!

Since it's a F4F thread, when you have some time, take a look at one of my levels. Links are in my signature. Thanks!

i have updated the level, after a few hours of work

Changes:

-No longer possable to avoid the lazers
-The green platform triggers slower in the begining
-Red platforms drop a lot less score bubbles
-Green and blue platforms drop more score bubbles
-lazer turrets now cover more area
-Lazer turrets now shoot faster
-Removed a red platform, reducing the level size to 6 platforms
-Made the level significantly harder after 2 min.

Enjoy =)

ill go through your things:

- Instead of a button to start the challenge, put a sensor right at the start so we don't have to push it. But before that...
Im not sure why you would want the challenge to start right when you get into the level.

-- You should add a zone explaining the challenge before it starts.
I want to do this, but the design of the level prevents it. The field is surrounded by turrets and material to keep those turrets going, that i cant just have you drop down into the area after an explanation. I thinking of having two buttons, one to start, and another to teach you how it works. THis way you can start right away with out a problem, and if you need to learn how to play, click the other.

---- The electrified objects falling from the top : If you jump at the same time they spawn, you can't dodge them. Kinda frustrating.
Not sure how to fix this.

----- If you go at the right edge of the last platform to the right, you can stay there forever (at least 4-5 minutes in my playtest). I just had to take the score bubbles that spawn directly on this platform and and got the highest score just by doing this.

Fixed

------ Pump up the visuals! You only have 3 rooms to create, the start, the challenge itself and the end. Make them look good!

I will do this in the next update!
