I'll be in the minority here, but I didn't find MGS4 that special. Plus, the numerous cutscenes accounted for most of the disk anyway. I guess the lesson here is quantity doesn't equal quality.2009-02-16 02:13:00

It was a cool game but this is just another shot in the face for those that can only hope for MGS4 on their 360s.2009-02-16 02:25:00

I agree with CC on this. I found the game annoying at best and never liked any of the installments in the franchise. Glad the game found so many fans though. 2009-02-16 02:28:00

it was fun.. I liked a few of the games in the series, although the majoritey of the game tends to be play for five minutes, watch a fifteen minute movie... rinse, repeat...

not a bad game if your feeling exeptionally lazy, and have alot of time on your hands.

MG4 was a terrible, terrible game. It suffered from awful dialogue, poor editing, drawn out cut scenes and a derivative storyline.
You would be forced to watch unskippable cut-scenes that lasted usually longer than your average game play where two characters would talk, endlessly, without actually saying anything of worth.

At one point I was so bored in the middle of a particular cut-scene, I stood up, made myself a sandwich, made small-talk with my neighbour, returned to the TV to see those same tired old leather-clad gimps still droning on...
Honestly, you'd watch a twenty minute video, shoot bad guys for five minutes and suffer another twenty minutes of "drama".

That all said, the **** thing does have a few interesting innovations. Namely the only portion of the game that was worth a ****, the car-chase which I wont go into details about since some folks obviously like this game and don't want to be spoiled. However, in this sackboy's opinion, for every interesting innovation is about an hour of insufferable dialogue.

1: You can skip the cutscenes

2: MGS 4 lost on a lot of great missions. In my opinion if every mission was like the firts and second it would have been god-like. With the rest of the missions it felt so 'meh'

3: The cinematics take up 5 DVD (not dual layered, just the 4 g ones) I made a boxset of all of the cinematics with added sections and music

MGS4 was a masterpiece, period. Was it perfect? No. Is any game perfect? I think we all know the answer to that. For me it was the first PS3 game that made me say "wow!" and the merits of the title are endless. As for teasing 360 owners I am a little too old for that...2009-02-16 14:54:00

No it wont. Kojima has said time and time again it wont. Plus the game is full of references to Sony & Apple products, further reinforcing his anti-Microsoft stance. MGS4 will never get ported to the 360. Metal Gear Online however is a completely different kettle of fish. There's every chance Kojima will port that.

Also, to all the people who are saying "It's all cut scenes, waah!", have you actually played any other MGS game? They're all like that, even MGS1 was mainly cutscenes and codec conversations.

I have both, PS3 and 360, and they are both great.

It seems to me that every PS3 owners want to impress 360 owners (and vice-versa) with the classic "This game is exclusive on MY console, YOUR console sucks!".

I dont't really understand why, but I think it's very funny! This is the same on every game forum on the internet.

MGS4 was fun once. I will never play this game again.

MGS4 was awesome, but I understand how it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I've been a fan since the very first one and this one was a worthy end to the Snake saga.

Although, this was stupid. I was like "What the!? That is not the time for proposing! Just kill people!".

MGS4 is an incredibly awesome game BUT, there's a but.

This thread is quite useless as they ALWAYS will be major games that aren't multiconsole. If you don't own that console than tuff luck for you. Why don't you shut up and play what's available to you or raise money to buy another machine? Any other reaction falls into immaturity imo.

There have always been console exclusives, and all 3 consoles this gen have plenty of them.

Sure, the majority of exclusives suck for all of them, but you do have some AAA titles like MGS4, Super Mario Galaxy, Gears of War, etc.

I get Xbox fanatics constantly telling me how MGS4 is coming to the xbox and to kiss it "goodbye", but it's never going to happen. Consoles are made by their exclusives, and if they prefer the sony exclusives then they need to trade their xbox for a ps3.

Don't say never, unless money has been paid to keep it exclusive there's always a chance that it could be ported.

This is childish tbh. PS3 fanboys laughing at XBOX360 fanboys (and vice versa) because they can play games the others can't is annoying as anything. It goes along with the oldest arguments in the console wars and is really boring now. Sorry, but it's true.

While I agree with your final sentence, I don't think you can really apply it to MGS4. Sure, it was a big game, but there are far bigger games out there. Each chapter lasts around 4-5 hours (including cutscenes) on casual first time play through. I actually find alot of quality in the game, but not enough quantity on the gameplay front. Cutscenes are a bit too long, but I always find them enjoyable. You go into an MGS game expecting this anyway. Though i did find one bad part in the game was...
that **** wedding at the end. Not needed and boring.
Seriously, what was the point?

MG4 was a terrible, terrible game. It suffered from awful dialogue, poor editing, drawn out cut scenes and a derivative storyline.

Honestly, you'd watch a twenty minute video, shoot bad guys for five minutes and suffer another twenty minutes of "drama".

You can skip almost any cutscenes in the game. And the unskippable ones don't last more than a minute.
Plus all the cutscenes have something of importance happen that drive the storyline forward. This has been the case with all MGS games and is either a love or hate thing. Personally I love it because I see MGS having a storyline better than most movies I watch and take the whole thing as a fun experience, be it playing or watching.

Rule No 1: Don't Listen To Kojima
Rule No 2: Don't Listen To Kojima
Rule No 3: DON'T LISTEN TO KOJIMA!

Kojima said MGS2 would actually be his last MGS game ever. He also said that about 3. It was also said how MGS2 would always be exclusive (like MGS4). But that's on XBOX and PC. And MGS1 is on the GameCube and PC. It's happened twice before, and it could happen again.
Saying that, I don't think it will. People say 'oh you need this many disks etc etc etc' but they could (i'm guessing) compress it down much more if needed, to say 2 disks I bet. Which wouldn't be a problem (it wasn't in MGS1 was it?).
But i just don't think it would sell too well. By then, the big MG fans would of played the game and it wouldn't go well towards a new fan base. This is what happened with MGS2 on XBOX. Didn't do too well.
However, if they remade MGS1, 2, and 3 (subsistance, so you get good camera control and MG1 & MG2) and put it in a package along with MGS4 and sold it on XBOX360 and PS3 (maybe XBOX '3' and PS4 lol) then I would personally think that would be a win win situation for everybody.
While I do care about having certain games just on the PS3, I just want this whole console war business to end as it is annoying beyond belief.

i also agree with all of you it sucked lol. i only posted this so you can kick your friends who want mgs4 for xbox in the face with.

Barely anyone said the game sucks. It's just silly to say that.

Also, i may look like a right fanboy of MGS (which I am ) but i don't think it's the best game ever made. Far from.
While all the gameplay segments are pretty much perfect (though wanted more variety in ACT 3) I do think the cutscenes section has a massive flaw.
The storyline itself is amazing. The direction it took, and everything that happens (Spoiler: bar that **** wedding with johnny and meryl :| ) suited the series perfectly. However, how the game went about telling the story was just bad in parts.
I'll name the two biggest examples (spoilers ahead folks):

When in ACT 3 you find EVA, she tells you who the Patriots are. Now, throughout MGS2 and 3 they were seen as some powerful awesome force in control of pretty much the whole world. We did not know who they were, or pretty much anything about them. But then in ACT 3 EVA just drops the names of the patriots like it's nothing special. Now i obviously didn't want them to go around the room flailing their arms screaming WTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFF but it would of been nice if there was a bit of emotional impact with finding out who they were. That was pretty lame in my opinion.

Also, Big Boss's speech at the end of the game was pretty poor. While they couldn't of ended it with a better sentence imo, the speech about everything starting at 0, becoming 100 etc was just crap. A shame, but it really was. Just find it on the internet and read it. It looks even more ridiculous on paper (or screen lol).

Anywho, you get the point, MGS4 is great, but could of been so much better. The length of the cutscenes weren't a problem for me, but i understand they are annoying for many. But as i said, that's always been a part of the MGS series.

Sorry if there are a few grammar/spelling mistakes along the line. I don't really have the time to proof read.
/thread.

All right, I'll amend what I said about them being unskippable... But that's not really a great selling point, is it? Especially since they all have something of importance happening.

Didn't the fanboys, like, send Kojima death threats, demanding he make a sequel?

Barely anyone said the game sucks. It's just silly to say that.
I suggest this will just have to be one of those 'agree to disagree' situations. I thought it royally blew, but I hope you don't hold it against me.

Nah that's fair enough. It will indeed be one of those things lol. Ofcourse i wouldn't hold it against you.

And yeah, they sent him death threats lol. But still, i doubt any of them would of been followed through. But really don't listen to what kojima says haha.

While it's possible they would need to cheapen the game quite alot. Konami needed a 50gig BD to fit that game.

Even with multiple DVDs they would need to cut some stuff, compress the sound, compress the videos, etc. I wonder if it would end up worthwhile.
