I'm half way through making a level for lbp based on the first chapter of Half-life 2, but i recently read something about media molecule deleting some levels that copy games such as half-life and others even though there are still some levels based on games such as silent hill and mario. I have one picture of a character from half-life 2 in the level but other than that it does mention the actual name of the game and im thinking of changing characters name. Do you think this one picture could get it deleted or even just basing it off hl2 get it deleted? Thanks

I'm not an expert in this matter but i think that the reason for that levels like mario don't get moderated is (i think) that Mm has some sort of whitelist for companies who say that it is ok for them that other people use their IPs in LBP. But i doubt Valve is one of them, so therefore i suggest you change all the names on characters and the levels slightly so that they are not the same as those in HL2, I don't know about the picture though, it's probably safest to remove it. If your level still gets moderated for some reason you will get a second chance, you get a message that tells you whats wrong and you get the chance to correct it and publish the level again. (please correct if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure it works that way) Hope that helped! BTW: good luck with the HL2 level!

Ok thanks for the feedback, i guess it is the safest option to just not mention anything to do with half-life lol, any ideas for a sticker i could use that looks like Dr. Breen? lol

I believe that you can say that it is a tribute to Half life but not that it is a half life level. Concerning the photo, i think that it could be ok to use it... but I'm not sure, do they count individual character designs as IP?... Otherwise you could use the photo as a template for a doctor breen made out of normal materials...

Yeah, i have just found a sticker of an old guy and used that. I'll also add in the description that it is a tribute. Thanks a lot for this info. I have been working on this map for a long time and it should be done in the next few days so i would of been devastated if it got deleted.

MM have publicly stated that they do have a whitelist of companies that don't mind people using their IPs. They haven't publicly stated which companies they are though, as such information could be abused. I'd say it's safest to go down the path you are following and remove all direct references to other IPs, especially if you aren't trying to do an exact clone. It's one thing to be inspired by someone else's work, it's another thing to rip off their intellectual property and claim it as your own. :eek:

And if you get moderated, these days you're supposed to get a message what exactly is wrong with the level and they give you a chance to correct, just don't be too blunt about it and you'll be fine.
