Making the screen shake

Archive: 9 posts

Is there an easier way to do this than attaching the whole room to a piston? I'm sure I read something on here somewhere about using impact explosives to do it, but couldn't figure it out at the time. Many thanks.2009-02-13 12:39:00

You could put a camera on a small piece of material and attach that to a piston. Set the camera player tracking to zero (all the way to the left). The screen will shake but it won't affect the player (the player won't be bounced around the screen.)2009-02-13 12:52:00

Never tried this myself but just thought of something that may work ????

Can you just put the camera onto a piece of thin material with a piston attached moving back and forth and have it set to minimum on player tracking?????

Don't see why this wouldn't work, but as I said I've never tried it and only thought of it just then while reading your post

Brilliant, I'm surely gonna use that someday, that should work.

If I'm not mistaken, blowing stuff up nearby will shake a the screen to. You'll have explosion noise and soot too but that's cool sometimes...

Excellent, a simple solution, I think I was overthinking the problem! I'll try it out...2009-02-13 14:06:00

What does player tracking do?2009-02-13 15:36:00

What does player tracking do?

It judges how much your camera follows the player in a camera zone. If you want the camera fixed for the entire time in a section then put it to the lowest.

It's the setting of how much the camera follows the player. So if you want to keep the screen in one position with no moving until the sackboy leaves the camera zone, then put tracking down to zero. If you want the camera to just do a general change (maybe have it look more to the right, but you don't care if it moves around a bit) then you can set it all the way to the right.

Of course the middle parts of the bar restrict camera movement some but also follow the sackboy around a bit.

If you've played most mega man fan levels, they tend to have player tracking all the way down to keep each zone locked in frame.

What I can't understand is why they have a middle area for camera tracking. I pretty much always want it completely on or completely off. Has anyone experimented with the middle areas of this?2009-02-14 05:49:00
