News redundancy

Archive: 7 posts

I didn't find an early thread on this issue... so I thought I'd bring this to light.

Right now we have three news sub-forums.

Front Page News

Any news we want bumped to the front page will be posted here.

News Submission

Found something you think deserves to hit LBPCentral's homepage? Whether it be a fantastic LittleBigPlanet level, some LittleBigPlanet-related news, or anything else you can think of, let us know here!

News and Media

Share LittleBigPlanet related news and media here. You can also submit news you think deserves to go up on LBPCentral's homepage.

I find this to be highly redundant, because most of the times the same news article will be presented in News and Media and News Submission (you'll notice also that the description of those two sub-forums is already highly redundant).

Add to this the fact that news items will also be posted on the Front Page News sub-forum, and the same article will potentially be presented three times. Because of this, discussion on news is also divided into three. I don't know about the rest of the members, but I don't care to follow and participate in three discussions on the same news.

I suggest that News and Media and News Submission should be merged into one because their content and function are fundamentally the same.

I also suggest that for the case of Front Page News items that come from the News Submission, one of the threads should be locked and link to the other for further discussion, or the item from the News Submission should be merged with the one from Front Page News.

If neither of these solutions is viable, then we should redefine the role of those sub-forums so that their content can be clearly delimited and we don't need to guess where a new news item should be posted.

What do you guys think?

Yup I agree will make it a lot less work for us mods as well.

I like the idea of Front page news only being for the stories and then all discussion on the individual stories linking back to the newly combined News, Media & Submission forum.

Great suggestion, it really ties News together instead of having it split into 3 parts. We'll also be sure to lock Front Page posts from now on and add links to the corresponding thread in News and Media.2009-02-12 16:29:00

Wow, that was fast. :O

Let's hope this works out, it should really make things easier to follow.

Of course, not all threads in Front Page News should be locked since some are exclusive to that forum, such as the Community Spotlights.

Yup were on that and just discussing it now.

They will eventually be linked back to a discussion in an appropriate forum area, so for example Community Spotlight 8 will have a front page news story listing all the levels and creators with a link in it to a dedicated sticky thread in Level Showcase for discussion.

Each front page news story will have a link to a discussion thread in the appropriate forum area.
