Esmerelda's Snack Shack: Prepare to Dine

Esmerelda is hungry, and she wants you! Evade the World Eater for as long as you can in this desperate struggle for survival. Special thanks to actio1_618 and SLS10 for lots of memorizer logic help.

My latest level is sort of a mix between Shookie's My Companion Bomb levels and the first Snack Shack (a competitive arena where you threw your friends into Esmerelda's gaping maw). In this level, the goal is to survive for as long as possible while Esmerelda is in hot pursuit. The kicker? You have only one life! This is a very challenging level where you constantly need to keep Esmerelda's movement in consideration. The point is not necessarily to proceed quickly, but to proceed intelligently. If you keep your wits about you and are able to adapt on the fly, you should do well. Don't judge this level on it's difficulty, but rather how much fun you have.

My friend actio1_618 lent his massive logic skills and made several logic features. There is a play counter and your music selection is memorized. What's more interesting is the Dark Souls inspired death memorizer. The position you died in your last run is memorized, and if you can get to that point you get 10% of the points you had when you died the last run. Fun!

My robopal SLS10 came up with the initial idea, and is the one who made the Esmerelda figure clouded by the darkest darkness. He also did the voice acting so there's that.

This level is really tricky, but hopefully really fun, good looking, and hilarious. Time to Dine!

This is excellent and all of you should play it. I've already sunk ~30 plays into this, and around 50 plays into the beta verision. It's a nice and simple idea and the execution is really well done.

There's a lot of cheap, funny, heartpounding deaths in there so give this a go, a break from the standard platformer

EDIT: Playcount is now @ 130, top score of 44 000 aquired. Try to beat it!

By the way, this level has a meta game that involves compound interest. Have fun exploiting that!

I should probably mention that squid2723 and Giant_Robot77 provided the custom tunes for this level.

Okay, there's a few things I'm going to edit when I get the chance tomorrow:

1) I'm going to add a few more bubbles.
2) I'm going to make it so the leftover logic doesn't cap at 1000
3) I'm going to attempt to fix the final room (that no one got to yet save Mnniska). It works perfectly in create mode but not in play mode because LBP is a poorly made game

Changes have been made, everything is working perfectly again. Enjoy.

Review: oh dear its the best lvl I played for a long time. Everything fits perfect, the gameplay, visuals and logic. Cant image the logic behind the logic! Very nice that you added memorizing stuff too. I love how you used old gameplay in a new funny way. Sometimes you see some very simple stuff. I cant stop it. If there is a change to run and run again, thats what you need, such a great feeling. Wint accept that I got eaten by a flying head that is a girl gasp no way.... i have to try it again (jk)

Its also a really well done entry for the food competition. Never expected to see a lvl you are the food itself. Genius idea.

Grand job you have to play it if you havent yet, its really super fun

Esmerelda! O, Esmerelda! Demon goddess, mother of anguish. Of course the level was picked. This level... is an absolute good. The level is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.

It looks as amazing as it plays & it plays like butter, I’ve played this well over a hundred times & though I’m embarrassed to say that I still haven’t beaten it, it never stops being fun & whenever I get eaten I know its my own dumb fault & I guess, subconsciously, I must want Esmerelda to eat me.

Why am I not surprised... when I find another masterpiece of LBP craftitude, it's made by the very same person who made the last piece of similar mastery. Absolutely gorgeous level in design, but this here also manages to top itself constantly. Do I have problems with the level? Well, the part with bounce-pad pillars rising from the floor that bounce you back at Esmerelda (one of the greatest villains ever in LBP, only matched by... Haus) is kind of bad design wise, as when you are running in high speed it's difficult to tell which layers are occupied. It's trial and attempt sort of level, I get that, but the reason it works as well as it does for the rest of what I played of the level is because it doesn't feel like it was designed with trial and attempt level in mind, even though it absolutely is.

Weird, spontaneous and infinitely fun, I give this one 9/10. The one "flaw" that is there is not a dealbreaker, so I can overlook any little mistakes this level may do. (Also, maybe add a thing where you can hear what music track you are selecting when you are selecting it?) Fantastic level here, Bonner.

Yeah, those tiles are definitely the most annoying thing about the level, but I like them because they A) induce panic and B) force the player to move more slowly and methodically (which becomes more necessary later in the level. Trial and error is definitely a crucial element of the level, but it's also designed in such a way that a skilled player can make it past obstacles on the first or second attempt. I also wanted to make the jukebox preview songs, but the logic would be a bit annoying because of the memorizer and it would play over the entrance track.

Also, if you think Esmerelda is a good villain, wait for my next level. There are a bunch more Esmerelda levels with varying creepy levels. :kz:

I don't get this. Whenever I run from Esmerelda she keeps swallowing me half a room away. If I tried any trickery such as Bonner does at 3:16-3:19 where he just casually jump over her, she would swallow me before I had time to think about pressing X button. It's like her range is bigger when I play it. At least it feels like it.2014-05-21 12:54:00

Jumping over her requires that (s)he be on a level playing field or slightly lower than you. Any higher and (s)he'll be able to intercept you. The hitbox is centered around the nose / mouth, but it is obscured.2014-05-21 16:23:00

Omg! I love this level and I hate this woman which seems to be extremely hungry and greedily devouring her guests! I'm rather proud of me, despite of all my expectations I got rank 405 after only 25 trials! But next time, I will show her from which stuff I'm really made!

Congratulations again on the DVLC2 win. I liked how you played with the food theme here.

The fast paced difficult gameplay, the overall design, and the included play counter (nice touch) all made it worth getting eaten again and again.

Unfortunately I have not finished it yet, but what I have seen so far is great.
