"Unofficial" MM Levels...

Archive: 19 posts

Does anybody know if the designers at Media Molecule have their own personal levels out there?

I know their official levels are built by the full team, but surely these guys go home of an evening after work and have their own personal PSN accounts from which to publish their own individual levels.

I'd love to see some of these levels.

Maybe they are not allowed to publish their own levels as it would be seen as partly from the company so if one of the designers published a level that wasn't particularly good it would be seen as a bad reflection on the company?

Little Big Calculator was made by one of the developers, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more.2009-02-11 12:03:00

I've been wondering this from the beginning! Surely the guys get new ideas for cool stuff and then deliver on them. We saw some amazing tidbits in those European tv spots for the game (one of which was adapted by Leather-Monkeys to great effect), which must have come from the Mm team.

I keep imagining that there's this wealth of incredible levels hiding somewhere, either published under some obscure username, or just never published at all.

I'm thinking this question must have been asked of Sam over at the workshop at some point. Does anyone know?

Do you mean "Little Xim" ?

That is the companies PSN Account which they use to promote user created levels (By adding them to their hearted levels). It doesn't contain the designers levels (bar one empty level only published to make finding "Little Xim" easier.

sackboy, one of the featured MM players has a little buzz-question trivia gameshow level that is very bare, short and empty but is definitely polished. I think it's sackboy anyway...

I have to tell you guys a secret though. I work for MM... they're slave drivers and make me work hundreds of unpaid overtime hours making levels at home. They alsotold me that if I don't promote them on every website that I will be severely beaten, terminated, and deported to Antarctica.

Rofl, I love how you said that with absolutely no sign of sarcasm whatsoever...

They might not be able to reply to that. Some companies retain the right to own emplyee's ideas, which in this case would be individuals working for MM designing levels in LBP in their spare time.

Besides, it could a be a breach of privacy as well.

I think many of the MM creators make levels in their free time, but they probably won't publish them.

It might even be used by MM itself, to make up ideas or themes, and then reate a fully-polished level pack

That's very likely. Disney are ownership nazis when it comes to this twisted mentality. ANYTHING you produce while working for them, whether it's at the office or at home on your personal time, is considered their intellectual property. Oh... and for your Christmas bonus, they give you Disney points. Seriously... how lame is THAT?!

All the employees probably have a psn account and most are probably creating (except maybe the level designers as they could have become pretty tired of creating), as long as they don't say that they are Mm employees theres no reason for why they shouldn't be allowed to publish their own levels.
One thing that could speak against it is if someone comes up with a very original and good idea that could fit into one of their dlc levels, then they could be advised to give the idea to the Mm level designers and let them implement it into the dlc levels first. So that it doesn't seem like the Mm level designers are only copying community levels... But that is probably not so likely (? is this sentence right?).

what about those with MM on their name? But those accounts looks like they haven't been used at all, no published levels, no hearting of creators and levels.2009-02-16 09:09:00

Im sure they do create but I find it hard to believe they have published something, If I worked for Mm and had created something really cool, I would save it for a new DLC level. Although it must be very frustrating creating those amazing story levels and not having your name by them.

@Teebonesy, Thanks for the mention!
