Introducing Kikaiwa
Archive: 26 posts
With this thread i want to present my Kikaiwa series. "Kikaiwa: Tom S. and H. Fin" It's a Co-op level making use of the flying paintinator. There are two bosses(i'm very proud of) and some varied things between them Here is the defeated first Boss: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/1_Tom_S..jpg The inner of the last Boss: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/large/1_H._Fin.jpg I also placed a key at the end of the level for a survival challenge. Making also use of the concept. It's called "Kikaiwa: Mainstream". The scene is easy. You are in a short part of a transport tunnel. After leaving the platform all kinds of Kikaiwa stuff passes this part. The first ones are not lethal at all but the difficulty raises slowly. Here an image of that: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/large/1_Mainstream.jpg "Kikaiwa: Strain of life" You basically are on an train. While you progress the passed segments get detached. Altough it uses the infinit level technique i managed to use just 3/4 of the thermometer what baffled me first. Perhaps i'm going to use this free space to add more detail one day. Here some images: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/2_Strain_of_life_start.jpg http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/large/1_Strain_of_life.jpg YouTube - Kikaiwa: Strain of life Any feedback is welcome. By the way: I used relatively complicated logics for the bosses and got used to it. If any one who reads this realy don't know how tho make a propper controll for one of his/her level's passages just ask me. Perhaps i can help. | 2009-02-09 21:45:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Wow, what the hell? I played this level today and it's GO******** AMAZING! THIS GUYS IS ONE OF THE BEST CREATORS ON THESE FORUMS... and not over-rated like certain people.... Ok first off, the entire level takes place on a train, it's handled amazingly well, you never leave the train setting and the train never stops. Inside this huge crazy neon train there are seperate rooms with different puzzle-solving techniques in each. All of these are interestting and pretty clever. Then comes the boss fight at the end, which is probably the best boss experience I've ever had in an LBP level. It was perfect and polished and incredibly dramatic because it's all on a train going about 100 miles per hour. Seeing the amount of plays you have.. was really depressing... 7 plays an no hearts at the time I played. Wtf? PLAY THIS LEVEL. | 2009-02-12 19:25:00 Author: Snowspot Posts: 265 |
This sounds really interesting... but why is it in OBJECT Showcase? | 2009-02-12 19:31:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

I hope too. LBP will keep me busy for a looong time. I'm addicted to this game... | 2009-02-12 20:11:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Yeah vanemiera's really talented when it comes to mechanics and design, and just making fun levels in general, snowspot. lol @ "like certain people" This sequel is decidedly different than the first, but impressed to no end. I played it with him the other night, and it never ceases to amaze me how complex the simple mechanics and variety of gameplay in his levels are. Despite being exclusively VR it's stylized to a T, and stands out in a crowded pack. The scrolling background alone is one of the top 5 effects and visual displays I've seen in LBP. The kikaiwa series is one of the few levels I'll enjoy playing with other people on a routine basis. He has another train level that is very gorgeous and I'm still baffled as to how he varied the terrain in that one. | 2009-02-12 21:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
I played the Strain of life level and made it all the way to the boss. I have to say it's amazing. All of the puzzles are pretty unique or have special twists to them. Plus I love infinite levels. I couldn't quite figure out exactly how this one was done, the background scrolls by FAST! Plus I never managed to sneak underneath one of the doors that keeps you from backtracking when a section falls behind. You've sure fool proofed those doors. Speaking of those doors... there IS a level-breaking bug that forced me to restart. At one point you have to get inside a flying vehicle, for kicks I decided to see what was in front without going into it, but died. When I respawned, both doors were closed and I had no way to make it back to the vehicle so I had to restart the level. I'm going to give the boss another shot, it took me a while to figure out what to do with the timed explosives so I had no lives left by that point. | 2009-02-13 14:26:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
With a wave of the magic mod wand, this thread has now appeared in the level showcase thread. | 2009-02-13 15:51:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
Thx for the fix. Hm. The thing with the boss... both doors closed? Why that? I really wanted the player not to be able to reaktivate the last door and loose his chance to reach the boss. i even managed to make the rocket go al the way back to a certain point. But i placed a point of no return because i didn't want the boss to hold his little "speech" more than once. | 2009-02-13 17:49:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Well, it was before the boss. I didn't jump into the vehicle and instead tried to jump across the pit. When I died and came back, both doors next to the checkpoint were closed. | 2009-02-13 17:59:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
okay. i think i will add that the door opens when you are again inside somehow EDIT: okay. i just made it that way that the door closes when the vehicle reaches the top. At this point everyone should be up there and the two checkpoints activated since the vehicle is connected to a need all switch | 2009-02-13 19:53:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Strain of Life Pros: -Amazing detail, great use of the train effect. -The puzzle were creative, ive never seen idea like them before! Cons: -The boss needs instructions, or a way to identify how to harm it. As i lost half my lives trying to figure out how to harm each stage of the boss. Tom S. H. Fin OMFG You stole my idea!!! Just Kidding -But seriously my bro wanted to make a level like this. So i just got rid of that idea because yours already exists. I still havn't played it yet, because nobody is home right now to play it with me. I will give it some feedback though. | 2009-02-14 16:28:00 Author: King_Tubb Posts: 435 |
I don't see any reason for you and your brother not to make such a level. Doesn't matter if the idea alread exists. There is in fact a story about this between me and someone else. But this is settled and i don't want to talk about it. F4F IS to learn from each other. So why don't copy my ideas? The boss... no i actually think that people must figure themself out how to harm it. @Gilgamesh: Thanks for finding this bug. What shall i check out in return? | 2009-02-14 17:11:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
@Gilgamesh: Thanks for finding this bug. What shall i check out in return? Well, I could always use a bit more feedback for The Incredible Time Box. I don't actually participate in F4F though, I just give feedback where I can (and try my best to break levels). | 2009-02-14 19:14:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
I loved the strain of life level. The puzzles were extremely well thought and i loved the setting. The boss was also good and i think you are right by making the player find out how to harm it. Good job. | 2009-02-21 21:06:00 Author: sharp357 Posts: 27 |
Sigh.. i come 900 points short of your score (On strain of life..) Me and Yarbone are going to test out the 2player level tonight Also.. i don't understand your survival challenge o.O | 2009-03-14 18:53:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
Adding to my list of levels to play! Just looks too awesome not to. | 2009-03-15 02:33:00 Author: superezekiel Posts: 120 |
I just tried to play the Strain of Life level, but when I got to the paintinator section of that 'boss'. There wasn't anything I could do to kill it. I tried shooting everything that I could think of but none of it seemed to be doing me any good. - I finally got so frustrated that I checked the video to see how you kill it. However, in the video it has a paint switch right on the boss and you have to shoot the top. But when I played that was not there. I thought maybe you just made it invisible or something so I tried shooting it but it didn't do anything. - Might have just been a freak occurrence, I don't know. Anyway, other then that the level was really impressive and I had a lot of fun playing it. I will go back to it another day and try again. | 2009-03-15 03:17:00 Author: Coreymill Posts: 85 |
Yarbone had that issue aswell COreymill o.O I don't know why.. i played it the day before he did, and it worked fine. (And had a visible paintswitch on it) Anyways, me and Yarbone played your Co-op level. And it was great! Really fun, and exciting Quite some original ideas. (Same for the co-op survival challenge! It was really really cool) Only issue i had, was that the final boss took really long? Or were we doing it wrong.. We had like 5 rounds of killing those spinning blades, and then a little thing popped out and we shot it.. And only at the 5th orso time the boss died... But yeah, AWESOME level! | 2009-03-15 13:34:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |

Someone already mentioned this but back then i thought that he just didn't know the paint switch. But now... I really made this paintswitch visible and even very large. **** bug... Hm, perhaps i will add some stickers, that indicate that as well. Only issue i had, was that the final boss took really long? Or were we doing it wrong.. We had like 5 rounds of killing those spinning blades, and then a little thing popped out and we shot it.. And only at the 5th orso time the boss died... But yeah, AWESOME level! That's normal. If you are good you just need two rounds and destroy two weakpoints each turn. But that needs a gunner that really has a happy trigger finger | 2009-03-15 13:41:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Ah, so it was working as i thought.. Ah well, then Yarbone is just a slow flyer I really have a happy trigger finger (Have the highscore on BossRush 1 ) | 2009-03-15 13:55:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
What is the Flying Paintinator? Am I right in assuming it is jetpack+paintinator? If so: HOW? Sorry, I just really want to know xD | 2009-03-15 14:28:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
It's 2 persons co-operating. One player equips the jetpack, and grabs the other player which is wielding a paintinator. Player 1 can fly around, and player 2 can shoot. Simple yet effective. One minor thing about this is that the flying guy sometimes gets in the way of shooting.. but yeah.. doesn't happen too often. | 2009-03-15 14:35:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
Oh right, thanks for clearing this up. I've seen that used before. I thought an incredi-glitch had been discovered. Note to self: Play this level. | 2009-03-16 20:36:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
