I was getting brain fried on a few levels I've been working on for a few weeks and decided I needed to make a very quick and easy level to get some of the creator's block out of the way. Very simply it's a level featuring some of the materials from the Valentine's Day mini pack. You enter Cupid's temple - a columned level with lots of references to hearts and a few concepts of love. There are the obligatory heart swings, a quick visual depiction of desire, the love meter (my favorite), a bridge of hearts and mending a broken heart. It's extremely simple but I had a lot of fun putting it together and hope that it's whimsical origins come through. Enjoy and as always, let me know what you think if you're so inclinded. Thanks for playing | 2009-02-09 05:13:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
I tried this earlier and really enjoyed it. I knew this was going to be a simple level based on your description so I was not expecting anything more then that. I really enjoyed the visuals/color palette and I was happy to finally see the Valentine's Day content! Your logo looked great and everything just worked well. The part with the fireworks was great as was the two heart "puzzles". I had a lot of fun and really admired the aesthetics which earned you a heart | 2009-02-09 12:37:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Had a go on this and your space station one today (actually yesterday). I thought that the title in the space station level looked good, but in Cupid's Temple it's really impressive - it jumps out at you, the letters being on different layers makes it really pop. I liked this level - very cutesy but fun and breezy as opposed to cloyingly sweet. I'm not a big fan of the love tester though - it called me 'chilly'. Get rid of it. | 2009-02-25 00:46:00 Author: Boogaloo Posts: 254 |

That's why it's "for entertainment purposes only." I'm sure your not really chilly... it's unfortunately the easiest one to pop up on the wheel. | 2009-02-25 05:16:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Oh alright then. I'll give it another go, and if it calls me chilly again it will lose any sort of credibility with the masses. | 2009-02-25 16:22:00 Author: Boogaloo Posts: 254 |
I think it looks good. What imo is sad though, is that this level is better than 60% of levels. (no-offence btw) | 2009-02-26 04:10:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
I thought it was super fun... Easy, but super fun The only comment I can add that might need a tweek was that you can see the radio. I thought the puzzles were cool Hearted! | 2009-02-26 05:53:00 Author: dobi6 Posts: 359 |
I think it looks good. What imo is sad though, is that this level is better than 60% of levels. (no-offence btw) I understand the sentiment. (No offense taken.) It really was just a quick two day project for me to clear my head for some of the Chroma Stone levels I was working on. I think the pro's it has going for it are that there's not gobs of dark matter visible, it's pretty linear and not terribly confusing, it has a few things to interact with and it's pretty. I'm glad people like playing it, simple or not. I thought it was super fun... Easy, but super fun The only comment I can add that might need a tweek was that you can see the radio. I thought the puzzles were cool Hearted! I usually leave the radios visible... just sort of a personal preference. They are visible on the story levels and I know when I'm playing another level it sort of gives me a visual reminder of which music track it is - in case I want to use it later. | 2009-02-26 06:12:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Glad you understood. It's just that any decent creator can knock up a simple level better than 60% of the other levels, in less than 2 hours. From the vid, your level seems to serve its purpose well. Maybe you could perform surgery on Cupids heart to take out the arrow? (split the heart in two, move the arrow, and put it together whislt timed? Just a thought. | 2009-02-26 06:17:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
Glad you understood. It's just that any decent creator can knock up a simple level better than 60% of the other levels, in less than 2 hours. True - I don't know if I'm a decent creator... I'd like to think so - my levels tend to be on the simple side. I really have a hard time wrapping my head around how some of the switches can be used in new ways but I'm trying to get better at it. Takes me awhile to set up a level too... not as young and responsibility free as I used to be From the vid, your level seems to serve its purpose well. Maybe you could perform surgery on Cupids heart to take out the arrow? (split the heart in two, move the arrow, and put it together whislt timed? Just a thought. I'm not sure which section you're talking about - I think you mean the heart at the end? If so - I tried a free standing heart puzzle but the pieces were too heavy to move at the size I needed to make the heart look decent. Great idea though! Thanks! | 2009-02-26 06:24:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Kind of like the part on the end, but have an arrow lodged in the middle? Doesn't matter if you don't, I respect the level was just a little break for a bit of fun. What was the main level you were working on? Was it puzzle based or Platforming based? I've been thinking, and realise it is a lot easier to make a good puzzle level than a good platform level. To make a good platforming level, you need good asthetics, and have to use all three planes to great effect. For a puzzle level, it is really simple to build, you just need logic gates (you know about these? search "Nettys Logic Lesson" if you haven't) and a few ideas. The reason I'm asking, is that very few people make a good platforming level. Puzzle levels are frequent, and imo aren't as fun. My first level was a puzzle level. The reason I think that is a) the generaly little big planet player is dumb as wood and b) Platforming levels (good ones) have a better fun factor, and more flow. I'm just considering my next level, when my PS3 gets back from being fixed. | 2009-02-26 08:05:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
This board really needs clouds in the background. Other than that, I enjoyed the theme, but I felt like there should have been more to make it a bit more charming. Maybe you could add a story or some characters to the level to make it a bit more interesting. Your level is definitely an idea with a lot of potential. Oh and I almost forgot. Sister SackNun has a message for you LOL - I was wondering how long it would be before you busted me for not naming stuff. I've seen your signature and I've been meaning to change my evil ways - just haven't gone back to update the prizes with names... mostly because I'll need to recapture them again... thank you limited profile! I might expand the level down the road. I kind of like it's simplicity compared to some of my levels which can get get a little busy. Thanks for the great suggestions about the clouds and introducing more of a plot line. | 2009-02-26 17:06:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

I'm just considering my next level, when my PS3 gets back from being fixed. They are primarily platform levels. It's my Chroma Stone Chronicle series (They have threads here with videos if you're interested.) They also aren't the most complex levels in the world or necessarily all that hard but I like them. My current problem with them is I'm constantly fighting the thermometer. I'm trying to get better at simple shapes and limited materials but I've already established a "look" for the first and last sections that require 8 types of materials to begin with so I already start the active part of the level with a chunk of thermo already used up. It's a choice I made that I need to learn to live with I guess. Check out the levels if you'd like. Always happy to take constructive criticism. | 2009-02-26 17:11:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Okay, I'll check them out. You could go back to your previous levels with the material changer? | 2009-02-27 04:25:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
Very cool quick level. I liked it and you made great use of the valentine's pack. I made a small chunk of my latest level with some valentine's day materials but now I'm jealous cuz I think you did better. =) | 2009-02-27 04:43:00 Author: The_Pemp_Wei Posts: 13 |
Okay, I'll check them out. You could go back to your previous levels with the material changer? True - I could. I'll have to decide if it's worth it to have the materials or more stuff to do. | 2009-02-27 04:45:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
I posted on your Chroma Chronicles thread. It seems the levels have great visuals, and I like that you used platforming>puzzling for a more flowing experience. I just thought the level was way too short (thermo?) and the boss was a little boring. Looked better than my level though! (search dkjestrup if you want to play it. Tis called: The Forgotten Relics of the Sack) | 2009-02-27 04:53:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |

Tis called: The Forgotten Relics of the Sack) Yes - thermometer is limiting how long I can make them. All the Chroma Stone levels are maxed out on their thermometers. I'm trying to shave off stuff but I'm sort of a messy level builder. | 2009-02-27 06:56:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

This board really needs clouds in the background. ok - I added some clouds.... and named my objects - sorry Sacknun I thought it was super fun... Easy, but super fun The only comment I can add that might need a tweek was that you can see the radio. I thought the puzzles were cool Hearted! ok - I made the radio invisible.... I caved in. | 2009-02-28 08:25:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
I played it some days ago. Really nice one, with some fun things and nice effects. There's no really danger, making the level more exploration collecting bubbles and relaxing. Loved the logo in the beginning, remember a bit the Chroma Stone one xD (same style, with the letters in different planes) About the visual, the only thing i think can be improved is the visible dark matter in the clouds where you pass. Not really great thing hehe Loved the temple visuals I think i put a screenshot in the level info's screen xD Hearted it! Waiting for the Chroma Stone 3 | 2009-03-03 01:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
Waiting for the Chroma Stone 3 Thanks Well about Chroma Stone 3 - it was done.... then the dreaded failed to load screen happened. I'm currently rebuilding it. Should take me about a week or two. Stay tuned - it's coming. | 2009-03-03 01:59:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

Wow, sorry to hear that = MM should fix thoses bugs since the games launch, those things discourage the creator a lot =x Good to hear that you will do it again, i will definitively play it | 2009-03-03 23:37:00 Author: Unknown User |
