Important: Back up your lbp files

Archive: 37 posts

Hey this is terrible news for me...
all of my levels are gone because they are corrupted so i no longer have The Neon Triangle Levels and i have lost all community objects and my objects

so therefore to stop this happening to you i recomend you back up all yourt LBP files onto a USB and back them up onto acomputer because if you lose all your stuff you get angry and want to throw your ps3 out the window ( well i do anyway)

Oh it so sad! I am so sorry for you...

But yes, you right, the number one rule with LBP is to frequently do backup saves.

Wait - rewind, you can back up your files onto a USB! How?

Sorry to hear about your files though

Just plug a USB key in your PS2 and then go into "game save data". Click on the LBP profile save file and press triangle button. Chose "copy" and then chose your external device (in the case here, your USB key).

Wow man, I'm terribly sorry to hear you've been victimized by this. I'm going to seriously consider backing up my files now. Thanks m82009-02-08 21:49:00

PS3 you mean not ps2

and worst of all i lost my costumes! i pretty much have to start again... oh well i backed up a few things but not my levels... stupid me *kicks self*

at least i can wiz through because i know where everything is...

and now i have to restart The Neon Triangle which tooks a day to make the intro, so i might scrap the idea for later or just give it away.

my new project is going to be completely different. You have mechs cars bikes and space ships and is going to be full out futuristic war, but seeing as long as normal stuff takes like 80 hours + this is going to take up to 200 hours, which will be very annoying but hopefully it will be a epic level!
right now im working on making vehicles because im currently not the best vehicle maker and i need to learn more about mechs.

HoverCar is done!!! YEEEEYYY- now i just need to remodel it to make it more "pretty"

well thanks for the sympathy and if anyone has a good guide to make good mechs please link it

So sorry to here that man,

I don't know what I'd do if I lost everything

I bought a USB memory stick to back up my save about a month ago and still haven't done it (I'm so lazy and forgetful)

First thing I'm gonna do

*goes off to back up lbp profile data*

If you're looking for good mechs i'd advise you to check out levels by 'harida' who makes the best mechs i've seen and gives many of them away. He also has some awesome weapon giveaways. The only thing i would say is a negative for me personally is that his mechs are just too big. Big would be great if the game allowed bigger and better camera zones but as they are it's just too limiting to really see what's going on around you with such big machines. Still worth checking out though if only for the jawdropping factor. Enjoy. P.S. If you're into Walkers ( that's the Mechs and not the crisps ) check out levels by 'a_tziluth'. Again he gives several away.

Why should you backup on an USB?
Isn't it just better to create a second profile called "LBP backup saves" and then copy your saves to that one and of course you should always publish your levels locked every time you save.

im with you for that last bit but i didnt lose my levels for my profile, it lost everyones who is on my ps3 so my bro lost his stuff.

could hve been a one-off but its always safer to have more then one

That's also treu... If something happens to your ps3, all your savegames could be lost including your Lbp file :/

I don't back them up onto a USB, I just publish them locked. Once it goes onto the LBP servers, it's fine.2009-02-09 21:34:00

Hi there,

I recently made my first back-up copy of little big planet, to save my yesterday achieved 100% in all levels, sorry i had to say that. Anyway...

Ok, so put in my memory card in order to back up my files, I click on lbp button thingymajig and press triangle, I get to options, delete and information, so I realise, this must not be the back-up-able thing.

So I click on another thing, click triangle BAM copy. So I click on copy, soon to realise it was 4356kb. I was blown back. So I copy that onto the memory card, browse around to discover there was no other LBP thing that was copyable.

So I was wondering a few things:
Is this the correct thing to back-up?
Does this save my downloadable content?
Does this save my levels?
Does this save my pictures?
Does this save my costumes?
Does this save my objects?
Etc etc.

I though 4.5MB was tremendosly small for what seemed such a large ammount of data.

What I am most concerned about is, I lose my game, upload back-up, and I lost all the stuff I bought and the Christmas, Chinese New Year etc costumes.

Hope to get a reply soon.

Thanks,

Will.

Callahan90, yes, 4,7 MB seems really tremendosly small but it is actually a good back-up save. All mines are this size and comprise five files. No problem 2009-02-16 06:53:00

Thanks mate for the reply.

I was also wondering, what does the backup save, aces, costumes, levels, mgs pack etc.

Thanks much,

Will.

The same thing has happened to me this morning. My new level has the "failed to load" error. I emailed it to MM hoping they can and still are fixing them. If they cant, its about 40 hours down the drain.

My save is now backup, even if I have lost the level I was working on

2 things I do constantly:

1. Periodically backup my saved game to a memory stick/usb (I do this about once a week)
2. Every single day I publish a locked copy of my level.

This saved me once - at one point I lost Splat Invaders Saga and my entire LBP file. All I had to do was restore from my previous weeks backup and copy the latest version of my levels from my locked published levels.

I've had no reply from MM. I've bitten the bullet and started the level from scratch. All my unfinished levels are now published locked in case this happens again.2009-02-22 20:16:00

this would be how you do it, from near the beginning of the thread its straight forward though and easy to be able to do.

It finally happened to me.

Level was done. Just playtesting it and I've now got the dreaded "failed to load" message. I've tried moving it - gives me an error. I've tried copying it - gives me an error. Can't publish it - gives me an error..... I think it's dead.

I keep swinging between - should I try to get the file on a backup drive and email it to MM or should I take what I learned on the first build and improve it on the rebuild and just move on....... Breaks my heart though.
