They'd probably never do it, but it would be awesome! 2009-02-08 10:12:00

Never going to happen.... ever!! It's waaaaay to complicated to let joe-shmoe gamer make his/her own material. The average gamer (97.5% of us) wouldn't have the first inclination of how to even go about creating a new material. As stated.... our next best option is using the sticker button. get yourself a PSEYE and get cracking on stickers... THERE'S you new material. Voila!2009-02-08 10:45:00

it would be easy to make custom materials for your sackperson you just sticker it then you could have a option like "Save Material" which allows you to put it into your prize bubbles
but for objects it could be aswell just the same...

anyway using the same concept as story levels whenever i make my levels series the first one has the costume thing like in levels which is quite cool but doesnt give you anything but custom sticker and tells you what you need

My personal feeling is they have GOT to give a way to access what used to be known as the "cow glitch". This, plus stickers, would really allow an enormous variety.

It's not really the decorating of the object that I have a problem with (I'm perfectly happy with the sticker idea), but it's all the other attributes such as rounded edges, glean from light, and surface roughness.

For instance, here's a situation I ran into: My Bovine Antigravity Chamber in Splat Invaders Saga. The cows need to float, so I had to use the floaty material, which makes the cows too puffy. To me, the fact that it COULD be done well, but they have limited this functionality is needlessly limiting.

Although, the cows did end up being pretty comical, but still....

i would say that they should let us edit the weight, dissolve-ability, breakability, friction, and transparency of each material, within limits.

for instance take the weight of stone, and make that maximum. take the weight of peach floaty and make that minimum.

same for friction, glass vs rubber. transparency from opaque to invisible (with a setting for smoke, like the gas hazard), breakability from floaty to metal, and the ability to dissolve any material. this would allow for the most amount of creativity because we could make any material we'd like do what we need it to do.

As a developer I agree - I would LOVE to have that much control. I just kind of wonder what they WOULD do - people already many times have issues truly understanding the physics of LBP and developing around it. If you look at any of my games you will see I spend a LOT of time trying to figure out what will break and what won't, and making sure I engineer structurally-sound mechanics (this is a GAME???).

I kind of wonder what would happen if MM let people go all out like that... but on the other hand, the cow glitch made it possible to do really cool things using the existing physics.

Yeah, I sort of wish they'd bring back the cow glitch. It wasn't really doing any harm from what I could see, and it did allow more freedom without being so well known as to be abused all the time by everyone.

Over on the LittleBigWorkshop though, a bunch of lamers were whining that they shouldn't bring it back, and artistic freedom was not a good reason for it, etcetera, without giving any reasons themselves to keep rid. Unfortunately, the people against seemed to be the majority for gods know what reason.

Originally in LBP you could put some material on the screen, change it to gas, change it into ANOTHER type of material, and turn off the gas. If you did that, it would LOOK like the new material but ACT like the old material.

So, you could for instance have dark matter floating around, or metal material that could be destroyed with bombs. Even though it was technically a bug, it allowed a greater diversity in design.

EDIT: LOL I turned my PC off by accident and when I got it back on I restored the session and posted this, only to find out that it had managed to post before I turned the PC off. So I had posted it twice
Deleted one and then realised it all didn't matter anyway as CCubbage told you anyway lol
