Scoreboard hacking?

Archive: 16 posts

In the past few days I've been seeing some peculiar high-scores. In the "Dodge Those Iceballs" level someone "achieved" a high score of about 70 million. How is this possible? The highest score possible is 1 million. And, on another level, someone got a score of 1,000,030. Are people hacking the scoreboards?2009-02-06 16:13:00

It would appear so.....either that or some sort of glitch is messing up peoples scores. Is everyone seeing these, because it could be a problem with your PS3 or the LBP servers.2009-02-06 16:46:00

Since I can't begin to fathom how these impossible scores are being "hacked", I'm going to assume its due to internal glitches possibly caused by leaky net code or there's an exploit that hasn't been found by Mm.2009-02-06 19:09:00

Ya, I've seen these scores also... levels where I've gotten like 200 points.. there's people with like 22 million.2009-02-06 19:35:00

Not so impossible as you might think...

Not so impossible as you might think...

When the top scores are capped at 5000-6000, and the #1 and #2 spots are something like 500,000, I assume impossible.

Sure, maybe there's a well hidden vault of prize bubbles only a couple people have found, but this is also a problem in the story levels too.

Any thoughts?

You would have to put it down to hacking until we know any more, it's possible but why would they bother doing it? Top scores don't matter that much do they?2009-02-06 21:16:00

They matter no more than kill ratio in online FPS games...

... o wait, people cheat for those too (using lag switches and the like).

Internet ego is a serious affliction. I hope they come up with a cure some day.

If the save files on the PS3 (profile and game data) contain a list of your scores on your levels, it would be theoretically possible to edit the code and give yourself an impossible score.

Even if it is possible though, it just reeks of lameness to me. If you ignore the technical accomplishment of the data editing, it's unethical and just... well, stupid. I'd highly recommend that MM ban from the servers anyone who attempts to do such a thing. :kz:

i've noticed this problem before too. i got a level with 1,000,000 possible points in it (which is the max amount) and someone reached all the way up to 2,000,000 (1P) wtf?2009-02-08 08:13:00

I don't know how LittleBigPlanet handles data to and from the server, but I do know it's possible to interrupt data sent through your network and edit before sending it through. Usually this kind of information would be encrypted to prevent such edits, so it seems unlikely. I'm not too sure how else this could happen, though, if the scores are actually illegitimate.2009-02-08 08:29:00

This is seriously sad. What is wrong with people? They ruin such a good game by hacking, why? Where's the fun in that?2009-02-08 09:44:00

A question many of us wonder, I think.

People like that dont care about achieving things..... they just care about making everyone else THINK they achieved something. They just want to look all "leet" and whatever.

What's funny, then, is when they do things like this, and dont seem to realize that they're cheating so far, that they've broken past every score barrier to the point where someone needs only see the score and know it's fake.

Bloody idiots.

I think there is something wrong with the scoreboards as a few times I have seen scores of my own and they're like 243,087,986,789.... and they go off the board and there are others like it too. But when I've gone back to it at a later date they have gone back to their proper stats and look a lot more normal.
Usually the online score (on the scoreboard) did not match up to what I had if I just pressed square on the level and looked at my score that way. When at the later date when it was normal they were both the same

What ever is happening (hack or glitch), it is a shame. Not much motivation to replay a level.
I never try for points anymore because the scores are simply impossible to beat.

On levels such as ones with races, they may have published, played the level, and decided the time limit was too long. So, they fix it, republish it, and forget that their score from the overly-long time limit is still there. This happened with me once, but I think I fixed it.

Although from what I've read, this isn't the same thing as you guys are talking about... although that would explain why there are so many high scores on music levels.
