Geosautus: The BEST Lbp creator

Archive: 31 posts

Geosautus is easily (imo) the best LBP creator atm. He has made:

World of Colour
Mad Mansion
God of War
Gardens 1.1
The war factory overlooking a small village
Mystery mine
AND NOW, NEW: "The tale of the Magnificent Ruby"

I strongly, strongly reccomend these levels. Think Gruntos UKs levels, but with better asthetics (Gruntos don't eat me! )

I believe his name is 'geosautus'. I also have his real name too 'Ole-Marius Lakselv'
I have played all his levels and I must admit, they are annoyingly good. He has showed us that he can make many types of level, each one very different to the last, but twice as good.

Yeah, he is my favorite creator. Even though I like some levels better than his, he has made a lot of good levels...except half of them got moderated...2009-02-07 02:15:00

The guy's clearly in a league of his own. He doesn't really have a hard time with it either, which makes me want to strangle the guy. I CANNOT work on a level for a few hours without gritting my teeth and pulling my hair and wanting to break my tv at least a few times. What can I saw, he's a natural LBP level-designer. Back in the beta, when most of us were building "ramp", and screwing around with basic platformers, he made God of War, Mad Mansion, World of Color, AND Gardens 1.1. All during the beta.2009-02-07 02:18:00

Yeah, guy is a pro.

I love the two new ones. It's a shame that WoColour and Gow got banned, but throwing people in fire..... well it wasn't very surprising.

It just seems so perfect. Almost all of his levels own MM and the only level that rivals the graphical quality is Deadspace. His levels have more polish than From Siberia with Love, which is one of my favourites. Everything is so perfect. It is the only online level I have attempted over and over in order to beat it (mystery mine).

He always picks the right materials too. In the aformentioned level, his choice of wood really stands out. Good materials, imo, are more important that decoration. This is the reason (no offence) I dislike False Idols, sands of time, and OCKS "Legion" because the materials are (imo) extremely, extremely, ugly.

The little section with the scientist was my favorite.

Aced on my 1st go and I'm #1 on the leaderboards!

I really like is Scary Factory, The Mine, and Ruby levels, they're awesome... andWorld of Color and Gardens were the most instant fun I had with multiplayer when I first got on LBP at launch, and Mad Mansion is definitely full of beautiful lighting and objects, and alot of cool mechanics people hadn't seen yet. I also haven't played the God of War level, but the screens I've seen are pretty amazing. I'm sure his next project will be even better than the last.

sighwhatever and Voltiare are probably my favorite creators... nobody can even come close to the professional look, polish and character of the sackboy's inferno series IMO, it looked as good as Little Dead Space a month before Little Dead Space released and it's a 3 level series with an original storyline, unique characters, 100% custom content, and alot better gameplay - it also pioneered the moving checkpoint/suicide technique as well as including it in a context sensitive way that fits the story.

The original H.A.T.E. still has the most rewarding, polished, and varying gameplay out of any level I've played and it is the most replayable to me as I never tire of showing it to people. It's starting to show it's age a little, but the revamped sequel is on it's way and from the beta plays I've had it's just another notch on the belt for a small, but quality portfolio.

Mr Genji's "Heist 2", JackBurton's "Left Behind 2", and GrantosUK "From Siberia With Love 2" have the best combo of looks and detail, and architectural layout/design. They're also levels that you can spend ALOT of time in to make the most of the gameplay in a solo experience.

Cdubb's "Splat Invader's Saga" is also a personal favorite in terms of truly balancing a unique and robust artstyle with great gameplay and a memorable experience, with lots of replay value... same with ROBO-RAMPAGE-X by Dimo1138, which is probably the best looking level with the most rewarding and fine-tuned, challenging gameplay out there.

Teebonsey's "The Movies" is another one that not only features an amazing hook with the insane animation mechanics, and visual style but also gives you a great level. It's such a unique and well done experience that I can see myself coming back to it, rather than just going "that was cool", hearting it, and never playing it again.

I think right now, for visual extravaganza's, I think Jaeyden's "Starstruck 3" is as good as it gets, with Takelow's latest "Lord of the Rings" level as a close second... "Illumina Garden 2" by Shadowflare X is another gorgeous level, and has fantastic gameplay on top of it. The "Pixelation" series is good in it's way, and is very polished, but so simple that without the fog and glass effect it wouldn't impress with any aesthetic detail, and just be a short, fun level...

...and for story and writing, I'm really partial to OCK's "Legion" and Stampy83's "Torn By Darkness" - both have just enough visual punch and fun gameplay to make the experience more than just for the writing so they get bumped up a notch.

There's probably so many amazing levels I haven't even see yet.

The reason he's so good though, is consistency. He has a large amount of great levels he has made. They might not all be 100% perfect, but he pulls it off with such ease...2009-02-13 22:24:00

Calling him "the best" is a pretty bold statement. I admit though, he's good. His levels was one of the first I tried back on the beta. Good times. :]2009-02-14 00:09:00

Lots of people fit that bill, and just weren't around in beta to get the lead on plays and cement to the front page of cool levels back in the Ramp/Sackman heydey. Jaeyden's body of work trounces it, easily, in terms of quantity AND quality. Just off the top of my head I can think of creators like cdubb024 and rayvolution who crank out polished levels on a biweekly basis.

If you published a decent level during beta or in the first week of release, you stayed on the front page until the December patch and got a thousand plays a day while anybody who came late was kept under lock and key.

Wait, are you talking about geosautus there, or donkey show?Well, I suppose both. I think they deserve it anyway so I'm not hating.

He's really good, but I think his levels are a little too easy. But then again, I'm HARDCORE.

He does make them fast though. It takes me a month or more to crank out one...

lol... nah. They both made the first great levels on LBP, and deserve all the props in the world for breaking that barrier in the company of Ramp and Ghostbusters. I just think alot of lesser played names didn't have the right timing... Azure Palace was the first level I hearted, the Phantasy dragon is still my favorite boss, and scary factory is one of my favorite levels.

You could put any talented creator with a great level in the same situation - week 1 release, page 1, an immediate 10k plays guaranteed... it stays on for months, the author gets hearted at least 1000 times, and everyone of those players brings their friends to play it. After 3 months of continuous plays the creator has a loyal fanbase that will support any project they release. As long as they follow it up with material that's up to par with expectations, and never disappoint... that's the real marker of his talent if there is one.

Since the search overhaul, more levels have a chance to get a few minutes on the front page, but the situation where you have one of the only good levels permanently glued to the front page for 3 months straight since day 1 and have no visible competition will never happen again. I don't think many new creators, no matter how good, are going to get a chance to get the same kind of superstar status, 100k+ play level and by extension will never be as highly regarded.

I gotta agree... I all depends on personal taste, like calling someone "THE BEST ROCK ARTIST!". Personally, I have played all of geosautus' levels and they are absolutely polished... but the scary factory was the only one that blew me away.

I remember when I first got LittleBigPlanet, one of the first two games I played was "World Of Colour" and "Mad Mansion" and I had no idea who geosautus was... so I played them objectively. I thought "well.. that one was pretty"

I played "Azure Palace" and the first time I saw that water serpent it was an "OMG!!!!!!" experience.

I played "H.A.T.E." and went in to work the next day telling people "You won't BELIEVE what you can do with LBP when creating games!!"

It's all personal taste, and geosautus certainly is a great author. But the best?? I'm not willing to say that. I'm playing new games all the time from authors with several hundred hits instead of a hundred thousand and thinking "Wow, THERE'S another great one!"

And by the way, I see people writing all the time "Wow! That person did a level that looks like one of the MM levels!". I'd rather see someone come up with stuff that DOESN'T look like MM. Personnaly, I think MM's levels look pretty simpleton when compared to Takelow's levels.

I agree with everything both Ninja and Ccubbage wrote so I will keep it short: there is no "best". Not to take anything away from geosautus (he is a great creator although I only have God of War hearted from his levels) but there are quite a few creators whose levels I enjoy more and who I think are "better" creators overall. Having said that I am looking forward to checking out his latest creation so thanks for the heads-up 2009-02-14 12:18:00

geosautus is certainly a great and talented creator, but I wouldn't call him "the best", I wouldn't call any creator "the best". I'm not saying that no one's a great creator, and I have my favourite creators(geosautus is on that list) but you have to try out all sorts of people's levels and creations if you want to have a lot of good times.

People who are big supporters of a specific creator and will only really play on their levels are missing out a lot on the LBP community, as there's lots of good and talented creators out there.

Definitely agree that he's a great creator, but I agree with everyone else in calling him "the best" being a bit much. There isn't a single one person I would call the best at LBP, but there ARE certain levels that have the best certain element to them. Which in turn, I give credit to their creator for.

Like Ninjamcwz and Neverynnal's Seminal Gemini will probably be better than any co-op level I ever attempt to make. The HATE series has some of the best puzzles you'll ever find (especially HATE 2... stuff like that blows my mind). Jack McSetback as a series are the best adventuring style levels I've ever played, great settings and grand adventures to be had. There's plenty more like this, and they're all amazing in their own respects.

So pinning down one person as "the best" I think is a bit of stretch, given the wealth of amazing levels out there floating around now.

i think that is a gifted creator but i have to disagree when you say that he is the greatest lbp creator... he has a specific and elaborated style.... nice looks and good storys... his levels are complete and good experiences but sometimes they seem confuse to me...2009-02-17 11:56:00

5 levels and two deleted one's really is not that much. It's not the amount of levels, it's the polish and quality of what he does have published. He has the closest to MM quality and really does all the things I usually nitpick people for not doing, or failing to grasp... and usually always does something that make you go "how did he do that" and map it out in your head, and then see other people try and do it half as well.

I would put him in the top 3 for his overall quality/polish, balance and fun, but for individual aspects like aesthetic detail, writing, depth, vehicles, bosses, mechanics, volume of work etc there's alot of people I would put him behind. I don't think he shines in any one aspect 100%, but rates a 90% in every category... so I'll give you that consistency thing.

I think right now, if anyone has a hope of catching up to his play count, it's Wyth.

Yeah, Magnificent Ruby is a "magnificent" level lol... I have absolutely nothing to nitpick in it, and it's nice to see a level with a visually impressive boss, which is few and far between... it's got just enough detail and aesthetic quality to balance out all his cool mechanics and platforming ideas, and I think the way he made the professor react to you and the ruby by hopping around and running towards you, and turning red with power lust is a HUGE leap forward in storytelling and character depth.

The ruby does break sometimes on the way to the trolley though... nothing's perfect I guess.

I love the effect in the level when you first enter the level and your in the forest and there is light shining through the tree's. Fantastic effect.
This guy should really join these forums and share his wonderful knowledge about making levels.
Anyway, I hope he keeps up the great work.

Also another pretty good creator though I don't know if he's still active is RenderFX. If you haven't played any of his levels, I'd look his name up. His best are "Night of the Living Skulls," and "Mayan Temple," or something like that.

I popped in this thread to express my love for the consistent great levels geosautus has made. He doesn't make the absolute BEST levels but he does make a lot of REALLY GOOD levels, like some of you said. The consistency and the volume (I think 7 is a lot, I managed to do 2 in the same time and it nearly burned me out). I haven't played his last two yet... making that a priority.

I'm honoured to be compared to him to be honest, I would like to get over his play count but I just can't crank out that many levels... For now the two that are online are what you are getting.. I think I might start on another one by march and I'll surely take 2-3 months to finish it... Unless someone will fund me for it so I can quit my job

This is exactly what I mean, and you have to say, 7 top quality levels is no mean feat. He was the first real person to ride the simple aesthetic train, with World of Colour: now look: everyone is doing it out of laziness.

I like magnificent ruby. I love the professor, and the jeep section was cool. Took 3 playthroughs to figure out how to enter the temple though, and at least another couple to finish

I also like War factory, and I love the visuals in mystery mine, although the gameplay was boring.

Isn't it more than two deleted? I think he made a level called Black in the beta that was deleted. It was the one made mostly of rubber and with lots of big spinning wheels to grab on.
