Virtual Girl
Archive: 15 posts
This is, as far as I know, the first dating and dress up game of its kind made in LBP. I've been working on it for a while. Virtual Girl is a fully animated character who you can interact with by panning and zooming the camera. At any point you can open a menu to change hair, eyes, makeup, clothes, accessories, or the background and music. If you don't figure out the controls after a set time, she'll help you with prompts. While the audience for this level is small, I hope you enjoy it if you play. I played it. It's a nice idea, and the art is beautiful. However, the feature set is severely limited.... I think you should add some more backgrounds/clothes/everything. Don't worry about loading times. If it's fun, people will be willing to wait forever to play it. | 2014-04-18 23:33:00 Author: AmazingKittyCat Posts: 204 |

I didn't find any dating, it's mostly just dressing an anime character up and then having a staring contest? I'm kinda glad there is no dating because that would've been even more disturbing then it was. Very creepy stuff, have you considered using your talents on less messed up things? It's very pretty and well made, but..no. | 2014-04-19 09:35:00 Author: Mnniska Posts: 531 |

"Sempai, why won't you let me speak?" "Shut up and let me dress you." From an objective standpoint the level looks fantastic - nothing in its style has ever been made on LBP so effectively - but like Mnniska I found it pretty creepy. But it might just be my inner feminist objecting to men coming in and dressing up women in a way that is pleasing to the former party. | 2014-04-19 16:26:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
It's not too bad. It could stand to have more content, but for what it is, I think it's pretty well made. Great job! "Sempai, why won't you let me speak?" "Shut up and let me dress you." Exactly what I was thinking when playing this... | 2014-04-19 21:40:00 Author: Tmjtk Posts: 258 |
Oh Ayneh, the things we could do lol I liked the level; its different and sometimes less is more. I wouldnt think of it as creepy, if anything, its not any different than a character creator you would find in a game. It takes some work to do something like this, particularly the artwork. Great Work! | 2014-04-19 22:21:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |

The level is surprisingly taxing on thermo despite its small file size, mostly due to the complexity of the hair. I'm working on fitting more stuff in, there's another background and set of clothes that I'd like to add at least. Very creepy stuff, have you considered using your talents on less messed up things? I'm honestly surprised the response hasn't been more negative so far. I love seeing the uploaded photos people are sharing or using as their profile pic, some of them are pretty creative. | 2014-04-20 22:56:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |

I'm working on fitting more stuff in, there's another background and set of clothes that I'd like to add at least. Are you using the emit/destroy technique with the backgrounds/hair/etc instead of just activating the sticker panels with a selector? You should be able to fit a lot more stuff in there...you can even put each category of emitters in their own emitters, like only emit the hair emitters when the player is hovering over the hair category, and so on. This greatly increases the complexity in terms of logic, but the thermo should only be a very small amount at any given time. | 2014-04-20 23:45:00 Author: AmazingKittyCat Posts: 204 |

One of the aims of the level is to be as simple as possible. Right now the level has 4 discrete hair objects which are really expensive. By emitting them it could be brought down to 2. My main concern would be any flickering, dropped frames, and keeping her hair in sync when she tilts her head. It would take a little testing. Thanks for suggesting that. It would mean some more work but I'm not adverse to doing it if it means more stuff for less. | 2014-04-21 21:09:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |
Nice idea and very well done! Great! | 2014-04-21 21:34:00 Author: avundcv Posts: 2526 |
Apologies for the bump, but I just tried this out, really nice job. The possibilities may be limited here but it still serves as a great proof of concept at the very least. The art style here is consistent and well done, the subtle head movements and such really make the "virtual girl" feel alive. Other than that, the backgrounds look lovely, and scrolling through the options feels quite nice. I went ahead and did a recording for it, if that's alright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7ioUm-SkXQ&feature=youtu.be | 2014-09-05 18:25:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
