Blue Disc Light

Archive: 9 posts

Hey all. A friend of mine has messaged me saying that her blue light is on indicating that a disc is in but doesn't show on the TV that there is a disc in at all. She says it's having a hard time reading a brand new perfect condition disc.

Anyone heard of this before and have any suggestions OTHER than telling her to call Sony?

Thanks.

Unless this has anything directly to do with LBP, this needs to be moved. Is this happening with all games? Is she able to eject and insert discs?2009-02-05 19:46:00

Yeah, well I couldn't find any areas on this site where people discuss things like this so I figured the Help section was the best spot. Where should I have posted this then?

I'm not sure just yet, but I think she is able to insert and eject discs and it's happening with all types of discs... or so I'm guessing.

Thanks for the link OverWork, I'll check that out right now.

Sorry to say that if it isn't OCK's thing his talking about in that thread OverWork directed you to. Then it looks like the disk drive has packed in. It happened to me the week before LBP's release and has happened to quite a few people one here also. Basically everything on your HD works but no disks will play (not even DVD's or Bluerays). I just went out and bought a new PS3 as I didn't want to miss the start of LBP. But I think most have just sent it back to sony and got it fixed.2009-02-05 20:56:00

The PS3 I bought had this problem right out of the box >_>

It has to do with the blu-ray reading head being dirty and there really isn't a way of cleaning it..

Okay, well I'm still waiting for her reply to some of the questions I posed to her so far and will let you all know if I find it's something different or some weird new bug or if it's died and she's S.O.L.

Thanks again!

I read in another topic very recently that there's a way you can kinda kill the operating system so it's mostly dead, but still alive, done if you switch it completely off while it's running. And that apparently corrupts it.

The fix was apparently to go into a game on the hard drive (demo or otherwise), and open the XMB once you're in it, then it will pop up in its appropriate tray.

Also, just for the heck of it, try turning on auto-play in the settings, to see if that does anything.

But yeah, it unfortunately sounds like you've got a laser out. It's pretty well the biggest problem the PS3 runs into.
