WARNING! - PS3 System Bug Found!
Archive: 21 posts
So I got a really irritating bug earlier today that makes your inserted game disc not show up under the GAME menu and forces you to enter another app in order to access the game. Example: You put in LBP and the blue-disc icon does not show up so you cannot play LBP. If you are anything like me then you start panicking thinking your PS3 might somehow be broken. If your lucky then you have a wife like mine that scours the net looking for a solution (despite the fact that she is fed up with my LBP addiction lol) In order to access the game you must first enter another app (downloaded game for ex) hit the PS Home button and then the disc icon will show up allowing you to jump into the game. This problem was caaused by me turning off the power switch on the back of the system earlier today and unfortunately I am now stuck with this bug forever Bottom line: Try not to use your PS3's power switch or you too will end up with this annoying problem. | 2009-02-05 11:03:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

*Gulp* Thanks for the heads up! My pleasure. Stay away from that power switch!!! | 2009-02-05 11:08:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Thats a crazy sounding bug. Thanks for the heads up. | 2009-02-05 11:16:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
My pleasure. Stay away from that power switch!!! I never use the power switch unless I need to unplug the PS3. It's too convenient to be able to turn on the system using a Dual Shock or the PSP. I've also seen a lot of talk that it can eventually lead to problems down the road so I tend to never use it. | 2009-02-05 11:19:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

Is this turning the power off at the back while the system is running or while it's in standby? | 2009-02-05 12:03:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Is this turning the power off at the back while the system is running or while it's in standby? Not sure about that. I turned it off while it was running but I wouldn't experiment with it lol. | 2009-02-05 12:41:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Not sure about that. I turned it off while it was running but I wouldn't experiment with it lol. Ah right, I always exit the game and then shut down from the XMB, I've only used the back switch in standby mode. | 2009-02-05 12:48:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
The PS3, just like a PC isn't meant to be turned of by the power switch. You need to turn it off by software first (putting in standby mode) and THEN you can turn off the power switch. And just like a PC, you turn off the power only when it's explicitely needed. The machines are made to run in standby and not to be shut off directly. . | 2009-02-05 14:23:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

Thanks but I am pretty sure we all know this already. I never turn it off using the power switch but my daughter activated the PS3 and for some reason I went for the switch instead of the button lol. Oh well, my mistake. The thread was made to warn others of the problem | 2009-02-05 14:44:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

Whats the time frame on that? is it possible that you switched the system off while it was still booting up and thats whats caused the problem. *thinking thinking thinking* Hmmm, it is a possibility. I can't say for sure. My daughter was very fussy at the time so I can't quite recall exactly how it all went down but it is a definite possibility. | 2009-02-05 14:57:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Thanks but I am pretty sure we all know this already. You could be surprised I didn't want to take you for an idiot though. This was just a general statement. . | 2009-02-05 16:47:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
You could try restoring the file system / rebuilding the PS3's database by accessing the recovery menu: Just put your PS3 in standby, hold down the power button, until the fans stop spinning, then hold down the power button again, until you hear 2 beeps. You may want to back up any important data first. If rebuilding the database or file system doesn't work, then a call to Sony may be in order. | 2009-02-05 17:33:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |
I got this problem after R2 froze on me and the PS3 wouldn't turn off even after 5 mins after pressing the on/off button. Fixed it by deleting R2 data reinstalling and then restarting the console. | 2009-02-05 20:13:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |

Thanks for the suggestion although I am not so sure that I want to play around with the system anymore lol. | 2009-02-08 05:50:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Not sure about that. I turned it off while it was running but I wouldn't experiment with it lol. Well that isn't advised at all. The back switch is ok as long as you turn off the PS3 Via the system shut down feature while it's on. Once it's red light then you can turn it off via the back switch. If it freezes hold the on/off button on the front.. Sorry OCK doing that wasn't the smartest of all ideas.. I always turn off the back switch once I'm done, Being green is being Clean | 2009-02-09 10:33:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
Sorry OCK doing that wasn't the smartest of all ideas.. Tell me something I don't know. Do you have a child? Often times children can be very active and do things that exasperate their parents. As I stated in another post, my daughter managed to turn on the PS and instead of turning it off the way I always do I instead hit the back switch. I will AGAIN state the obvious: this thread was made to warn others, not to debate whether or not it was a smart move on my part lol. | 2009-02-09 12:33:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Well I didn't know you had family using it also.. My bad just wasn't that clear. | 2009-02-10 04:53:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
