World of Manos

Archive: 3 posts

My first real attempt at a level. It's kinda short, but I'm still working out all the things I'm going to add to it later. The premise is fairly simple, the whole "save a doomed world" cliche. In my own opinion, though, it's not bad for a first attempt.

I'm drawing a blank on suggestions and criticisms, however. Either would be greatly appreciated.

Not bad, but I would add more decorations to your level. The solid rock backdrop is just a little drab. Maybe some trees or some more leaves scattered about would help. The platforming had some creative bits, but they were also a bit frustrating as well. I'm specifically thinking of the last portion before the goal, where you have to grab the ceiling, it takes you up, you jump to a wheel, then to another, then to a sponge on a winch. I actually liked this part, but I would try and make it a bit more forgiving. Maybe get rid of the spikes on the edge. Those killed me a couple times. I was also able to fall under the first sponge and got stuck. I'd maybe add some gas underneath it to kill the player should they fall.

Anyway, I think this is a good first attempt and I look forward to what you do as you create more and learn more.

Thanks! I played through and saw what you meant about the spikes, o I replaced it with fire instead, still dangerous, but a little easier. I also added a few more background details, and grass to the hill at the beginning.2009-02-05 23:44:00
