Switch defaults

Would be nice for the default on mag switches, sensors and emitters to be invisible. I can't seem to remember the last time I used one of these things visible.2009-02-03 21:33:00

yes that, and I think pistons should be default to stiff...2009-02-03 21:39:00

Beyond that, everything that has a Visible option SHOULD be invisible by default. Sounds, Musics, Magic Mouths... there's very few occasions when we want those to be visible, and a LOT of occasions when we want them to be hidden! 2009-02-04 01:18:00

Them being visible by default probably has to do with Mm wanting the community to teach itself, so if the things are visible others will be able to see how it was done and try to recreate/expand on it.

I agree whole heartedly. I find it annoying playing other people's levels and seeing all the above mentioned things stuck everywhere. Hey, at least MM thought to make the wires invisible though. Just imagine how ugly and confusing some levels might look if they weren't.

Trap T makes a valid point though, and I'm guessing it's likely the reason everything is not defaulted to invisible.

True, and same goes for the pistons. Default to not-stiff makes you realize you might use them not-stiff, while your mind (at least mine) tends to think of pistons as being stiff most of the time.

As with everything in LBP it's to sides of the same medal: Making things less of a hassle would be nice but might limit creativity.

What I'd like to see is a preferences menu, where you can toggle the default settings for switches, pistons etc. That'd be a big bonus I think. The amount of times I've had to re-do something because I've not made my pistons stiff...

Edit: I'd also like to be able to hook up pistons/winches etc to more than two or more switches. It's so long winded having to set up two pistons with magnetic keys when making 2 player areas.

I would indeed like a preference setting on the stuff. But re-doing something? Rewind button?

The rewind button is so slow though, most of the time it's quicker to delete something and re-do it. Also, by the time I've noticed they're not stiff I've already started work on another part of the level, lol.

Ah, you're having trouble with the slow rewind. It'll be A LOT faster when you disconnect from the internet. It'll be fixed with edam too.

As long as you didn't unpause the level you can always make it stiff. It'll cost you just one rewind, but if you're having problem with the slowness I can understand the issue, it's hella annoying.

Yeah I read something about the Edam update fixing it, didn't realise disconnecting would make it go faster. Still wont bother doing that, as I often only create stuff while I'm waiting for friends to come online.

I never pause the level while creating. The humming noise and blurred pause lines at the top of the screen are really annoying. Having the editor work like a VHS tape was quite cool at first, but it soon got annoying IMHO.

Wow... really? Personally I find creating while paused is often the best way to make things without having pieces fall everywhere. I probably create more things in the paused mode than vice-versa.

I agree that the humming is annoying and the lines at the top are too. Try turning your volume down just enough that the hum isn't noticeable but so you can still hear the "kiss" sound when your gluing and you will notice a big difference. Easy fix for the audio, and you'll soon learn to ignore the pause lines.

Cheers.

I grew up in the days when if you wanted to edit a film and were not a professional, then you had to pause and rewind a lot of tapes. It was a very frustrating and slow process, and very easy to make mistakes. To make it look good you had to plan ahead and check and recheck everything multiple times.

Those sounds just bring back painful memories for me. It might be fine for younger people in these days of computer editing, but I just hate them (the sounds, not the people).

My hearing is exceptional, I can hear under 10dB for most frequencies. When most kids were turning up the volume on music on headphones, I was always turning mine down to improve my hearing. I also use to challenge my cats to hearing contests. I can hear phones ringing in houses when I walk down the street, and can always tell what people are up to in the next room to me. My doorbell is broken, but that's fine as I can always hear a car door close... for visitors 3 houses away.

Turning down the audio just does not work for me as I can still hear it. I just turn the audio off completely if I have to spend a long time in pause.

I agree with the general thread though, it would be nice to have some sort of universal setting to make pistons stiff and switches invisible. Ah well, maybe some day in the future.

You know Elbee, up until now I thought you were pretty cool.

From your post I can tell you must be about my age. These young folk just don't know how good they have it... do they?
