The Ultimate Crane Game

Archive: 9 posts

The name says it all. I played about 15 different crane games that other people had created and found all of them lacking one important thing. They didn't work like a real crane game. You had to change between 3 different 3-way switches and manually move the claw right left, up down, and open close. Mine has one 3 way switch to move the claw left and right then you just press a button and BOOM, the machine does the rest.

Title: The Ultimate Crane Game

PSN: Qeelin

Key features: Single button "grab" sequence, plush toys to grab instead of bubbles, LED screen, multiple prizes with a grand prize if you get them all in one game, music changes after winning each prize, crazy lights, lol

The plush toys you grab aren't the actual prizes you win. After you have finished grabbing all the toys you want you exit to the right and collect the prize bubbles that correspond to the toys you have won.

F4F: I am willing to do 20 feedbacks.

All comments are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I decided to give your level a try because I saw it had no replies yet.

I've only tried one other crane game in LBP so I can't compare you to others, but here are my thoughts.

The intro is rather plain. I appreciate your desire to have it feel big, and it does, but it doesn't really feel like I'm walking up to a crane game. It should be a bright red and have flashing lights! I should have to deposit 2 quarters before it starts. These are the little details that will make yours the best.

The mechanics of the actual game were very good. the sway of the claw made me nervous as it fell. Unlike a real crane game I WON! In fact I grabbed 4 prizes. Perhaps a spring in the closing mechanism would make it more realistic.

HOW DID YOU DO THAT SIGN? I must see the wiring some time.

Overall you did a nice job. But if you want to he the best you'll need lo add some details that bring back the memories of wasting change.

the crane is too wobbly. Please make the winch and piston stiff. But include a loose wobble or motor bolt if you want it to... uhh... wobble.. Please do experiment on my idea. I'm not saying i'm right but i thought it was too flimsy.

I got three toys with one crane pickup though, lol.

I felt the crane was really wobbly and half the time that's what screwed up my grabs.

I liked though that your machine actually works compared to others and the LED screen was really cool.

Nice job on a wonderful, working crane nonetheless.

Thanks for the sympathy :/

I agree. I have thought about creating some way to deposit a quarter to make the game function but haven't yet tried to build it

I hadn't thought of using a spring, that might be better. It took me a while to get the piston adjusted so that it would grab hard enough to pick up the prize without breaking it.

If you get all the prizes possible in the same game you win a sign of your very own!

First of all, you can't make a winch stiff. I didn't use a piston for the up and down motion because there is no way to prevent it from either crushing the prizes on top or not reaching the prizes at the bottom. Also I do like a little wobble because it adds that important feature you often have with real crane games; the chance of the prize falling out of the claw before it gets to the drop bucket. I agree that it does wobble a bit too much and after everyone commenting on it I do have an idea of how to stabilize it from swinging before you press the button.

Thanks for all your comments, I'll play your levels and comment as soon as I can.

I actually liked the wobbly crane. It felt similar to the ones in real life and I wasn't sure if I would bring the prize in or not because of it. I'm with larry joe that you should spruce up the environment a bit. Some more lights would probably do it and I think your idea of having to enter a quarter is a pretty good one. It'd be cool if you could start out with a specific number of quarters and then if you win consistently, maybe you could win more quarters. If you drop too many prizes, then you'll lose.

I loved the "You Win!" sign and I'm sure that took you a while to make. I'll have to play again and try and win it! Anyway, nice little crane game. It was pretty fun.

Thanks! I will add a few items to "spruce" it up. I haven't changed anything on it in so long because I was working on other projects.
