DC Comics Levelkit Coming to Vita Soon!

Archive: 99 posts

We're nearly there, promise.

Just sorting out the final launch details now...
And I've even had a couple of rather awesome DC Comics wallpapers put together to make up for the delay.

It won't be long now though before Sackboy is bouncing off the walls and gliding like a true hero in his brand new portable adventures!

I feel like this is news-worthy.

I really hope there's somewhat challenging trophies for this one, I want something other than 'collect all goodies'/'play a level with a friend' quests... Anyway real excited for this pack. It's good to see they haven't abandoned the game. 2014-04-08 19:26:00

When I downloaded the DC Level Kit for the PS3, it gave me the Vita versions for free; shame I don't have a Vita 2014-04-08 19:34:00

That download was just the costumes (I got excited when I saw that but realized I was mistaken too). The actual DC level kit with power-ups isn't out yet, but is to be released "soon."2014-04-10 05:00:00

What he meant was that the season pass already gave the Vita version to him. Once it actually comes out he'll be able to go straight ahead and download it.

It does look somewhat different from the LBP2 version, i've seen some gameplay of it. I know a friend who has it on there and also has LBPV, i'll ask him what's different as i'd like to know, but still, OMSOGMODASMGASDMOGADSMOIAWJGIA OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOPMG

So will this be available tomorrow, or today? I can't wait!!

Now since we have both complete packs, they need to make a DC V.S. Marvel level pack.

I can. I'll add you on PSN right now.

EDIT: Trophy list is up!

They're almost identical to the PS3 version... Ace all levels, stay airborne with Hero Cape, Defeat Lex Luthor, play any level with a friend, collect 100% prize bubbles, publish a level containing Hero Cape, and...(this is a new one) trigger all Green Lantern material.

Wish they were more challenging, but I should have fun with acing all levels.

Yeah true, it's a good deal. Just observing how DLC prices seem to fluctuate a lot. I'm sure the companies (Disney, Marvel, etc.) have a say in it too and how much they want to charge.2014-04-14 22:18:00

I remember the Cross-Controller DLC price being nearly $10, either that or my memory is bad.

Can't remember the DC pack for LBP2 though. I think it WAS $6.99 in fact.

Wow then the prices have really gone up lately ...I remember when all the level packs were $5.99 or $4.99
I just buy all the DLC without looking at the price XD

It's on the LBPV in-game store now if any of you are waiting.

EDIT: It's pretty good so far, I'm glad they used different levels. However, does anyone else find the bubble multiplier kinda distracting/annoying after awhile? I find myself trying to avoid bubbles now so I don't to hear the noise when I get '2X' or '4X' when walking through a row of them.

If there was more of an incentive to get them, I wouldn't mind so much. Just an observation.

EDIT 2: Whew these are longg tough levels, it's going to be a challenge to ace them. At least it'll have some replay value that way.

I was playing through this last night. I love it. One thing about the Vita levels though that gets me and it's not pertained to just the DLC but even the story mode levels, is they are all multiple levels. When trying to ace a level, it may be 2 or 3 levels long. I don't think this is fair in my opinion. Give me credit for acing each part then.
Anyway, loving the DLC thus far and hey Hyper, maybe this weekend you can help me get those 2X areas?

Aced Toxic Terror three times. And each time at the end, superman got stuck in the ceiling and the joker got squished by something and I was stuck in the controllinator thingy. Very annoying, especially considering the fact that the level is so freakin long with tons of cutscenes.

EDIT: It seems to only happen when I invite someone at the end. I usually help my friends get the aced prizes by inviting them at the last part close to the scoreboard...

It sounds like you have the same problem as me. I downloaded the level pack and ended up with the costume pack 2 instead? It shows that I have purchased the level pack but it just sits in the not downloaded yet section. Every time I try to download it, it just re-downloads the custumes??

I discovered the one in Toxic Terror by accident, you see i think just after the bit with gravity there's a column of those pillars with touch circles on them and you press those and they move down. Well, stand on the first pillar when it's down and get launched up and you'll get the prize!

The hardest prize in the jungle level i forgot the name of (why do i keep forgetting the level's names!?) is at that bit where you have to move a few walls around which have walljump materials on them so that you jump up. The middle one has an empty space besides it, slide the block so that you can get through it to the empty space on the right, fall down, and enjoy your prize.

I think you need to ace all the levels to get the music. WHAGRHAGWHGRHAGRHRGHGHRHRRHRHRHRHR NOOOOO

Yeah, the same here. I am trying to re-download it every few hours and it's always the same. I feel a little scammed - I mean I am sure this was a mistake but I still bought something with money and didn't get what's written on the package. I hope someone will fix that soon. Seems like only people from Europe have the problem, seeing how everyone else just talks about how to 100% the levels here....

A little bit of gameplay, for those, without a PSVita, it's the german version, but I think that doesn't matter, just the intro could be a bit tricky to understand ^^ I tried to be fast, but under 15min for a level is hard... maybe I will add more levels later...

I think you mean "before" the gravity bit . I was looking for that prize bubble for like ten times of playing this level and I finally found it with a hint of yours.

I aced all the levels and just collected all the prize bubbles all ready. All those accomplishments were challenging, but it was worth it. The only problem, as what Titaki-Moomoo pointed out, is that the three interactive music are missing.

I don't mind the prize grabbing difficulty, reminds me of the first LBP in that respect. However the levels are definitely too long, especially for bus journeys and whatnot. Could happily split them in two rather then having the level link.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. When you say boss fight, do you mean the whole last level?

Man, I've replayed the boss level at least 15 times in a row trying to ace it... It's so irritating. I'm pretty skilled at platformers but for some reason I just can't grasp some of LBP's gameplay elements. I think with Sackboy starting out sort of slow and sluggish in LBP1/2, and speeding up his movements with wall jumps and the Cape throws me off. It's like he's trying to be both things at once... Floaty and sluggish (jumping) and tight and precise (flying). If anyone has some tips I'd appreciate it.

What's crazy is that I always die in a different place even though I'm fully concentrated pushing and pulling each button at the correct time. Perhaps like others have said, the levels are just too long.

It took me a few tries. The second half of the level (after the link) is very laggy, and the lag killed me sometimes. In the first half, just use the cape as much as possible and avoid touching the ground as much as you can, because the cape is more precise usually.

I find it kinda funny that Tarsier made the LBP2 version of the levels but not the LBPV version of the levels. When I saw pics of the levels & the videos from the vita version I noticed the art style & style of how the levels were made was different, But wondered if it was just my imagination... Guess not. Looks like many people are dealing with the same problem. I think Tarsier, Sony or whoever responsible for this should give you the level pack for free by sending a code through e-mail and the costumes you got instead would be the refund.

That would be the solution I wish for. However, they are not replying to my emails, I get no responses from tarsier over twitter and the sony support chat keeps rejecting my requests. I am afraid they will continue like this hoping at one point people just forget about it and I and others end up with a loss.

I have nothing new to add. But just to voice my opinions...

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the levels, and was happy that the race minigame was replaced by a wall-jump/cape survival. But on the other hand, the levels are really laggy, something I've gotten use to on the Vita (unfortunately). But the fact these levels lag offline so much is a real worry. They are really good challenges to ace and collect the prize bubbles, but half of the reason is due to lag!

And I am very disappointed that they didn't include 3 of the music tracks: The hub one, Ice place and final levels. Although on the other hand, the didn't include the Music sequencer track, which is good news for me... unless they add this in an update.

So overall it was a little bit of a let down, but worth the money... I do feel for those who got ripped off and given costumes though.

That would be the solution I wish for. However, they are not replying to my emails, I get no responses from tarsier over twitter and the sony support chat keeps rejecting my requests. I am afraid they will continue like this hoping at one point people just forget about it and I and others end up with a loss.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately we (Tarsier) can't really help you in this situation, not least because we didn't create the Vita version. I'm sure Steven will get back to you as soon as he can/knows how to resolve the issue. He probably have would got back to you already if it wasn't for the long Easter weekend.

It makes me glad that I was heard. I hadn't even considered they might be off due to the holidays actually... Thank you a lot for giving me a heads-up! I shall wait and see how this resolves.

The lag is due to poor optimization and the Vita's general limitations. There is just so much going on in some levels that it struggles- slow downs. You'll notice it more when the camera is zoomed out because the Vita cannot render everything efficiently. Even the PS3 version struggles.
Aside from the Joker's level I didn't really enjoy the others. But I was never a big fan of urban/city/ super hero themed levels- (or the otis levels and the retro levels in LBPV's story line.)
The excessive sticker use in the levels kind of made it all seem cheap and messy to me.

Whaaaat!? You didn't like Coaster Valley? I loved it, it gave a fresh break from the storyline and the levels were really cheery. I felt like it was a bit too short.

Either way, i also didn't really like the other levels. Half of the graphics were blurry and they all have loads of bugs and parts that are plain un-aceable. In the ice level i forgot the name of half of the bouncepads/walljump bits are unneeded and if i hit the bouncepads right i don't even need wall jumps at some places. The prizes in that level REALLY annoyed me, if they drop and you miss them you need to play the entire level again, i hate that. And they're generally hard to find as there is a ton of stuff going on in the level. The background really makes it annoying to look for the prizes.

I also didn't enjoy No Pause on Paradise Island. The graphics looked incredibly blurry and it's background didn't fit (come on, it was just a bunch of stickerpanel...). And ofcourse all the cutscenes.. If there weren't any overly long cutscenes, i would've EASILY catched Cheeta, but no, they had to make it last overly long for the story. The levels SERIOUSLY need a race mode. Seriously.

Apologies for the delayed responses from those channels, it's due to this weekend being the long Easter weekend.

Everyone is back in the office now though and I'm currently in the process of chasing up this issue with the PlayStation Store team to get it resolved to everybody's satisfaction. We want you all to be able to play all of the new DC Comics content too!

I just noticed the level pack I already bought isn't for free on the PS Store, so you're not the only people experiencing problems. 2014-04-22 12:18:00

No, I didn't enjoy Coaster Valley or Jackpot city. The background music plays a big part in it for me and neither zone had great music.
The blurry graphics are due to, once again, the Vita's own limitations, but I feel LBPV looks blurry/hazy in general.
As for the background in No Pause on Paradise Island- I think it was done because SMG was trying to give the levels more of a comic book feel...

...and the bubbles...I have to agree with you there as well. Some are too hard to get and the levels are too long. I only need two bubbles for Mecha-Lex Madness but the slow-downs make it nearly impossible for me to get them and to make matters worse...they're towards the end of the level............................................. .....................................

I liked the music in both, the stuff in Jackpot City is useful for mostly anything and really has the perfect retro feel to it, especially Model Citizen. The same goes for Coaster Valley. The music was really cool in there, featuring some more uptempo songs and Prepare Your Coffin is just awesome and really fitted the quick theme it's level had.2014-04-22 20:59:00

Alright, I edited my post since finally the trophies popped up. The levels are glitchy, but were still fun for what they are. Hopefully this isn't the last DLC pack they make for LBP Vita.2014-04-22 22:36:00

Wow. 10+minutes on one level and I die moments before it ends because of some cheap kill/trap...What B/S

*It's not glitchy- it's just a loading issue. There's only one level that has a real glitch and that is "A Frosty Reception" when you hit the elevator. It sometimes doesn't properly transition to the second part of the level and also makes it so you can't leave the level via start--->return to pod. Have to reset the game.....

**Also...is the pack missing 2 tracks? or are the music tracks from the Marvel pack?

The Joker level and the boss level also have glitches. At the end of the Joker level, superman usually grabs the Joker and puts him in a cage. But sometimes Superman gets stuck in the ceiling, the joker gets squished by something and the player is then stuck in the controllinator forever with no way to get out except restarting the level...

And at the end of the first half of the boss level, just before the level link, it's possible to accidentally jump behind the checkpoint and fall out of the level onto the moon floor....

I ended up acing all of the levels eventually after encountering these glitches several times.

On Mecha-Lex Madness, just before the part where you are getting chased by those two lasers, you can actually jump up on the roof of the building next to it, jump down, and access the bit without actually having the lasers on. This will make you have to restart the level in order to play it.

They definitely didn't do an amazing job...

In Frosty Reception when i was doing my acing thing, The level link that was in the elevator it didn't work. It took me 5 Restarts to get it working again. Also the got out the level not once but 2 times.

Someone about to get fired...

Same thing happened to me, there is also something at the cheetah level. Here is a pic if you guys want to check it out for yourselves.

And if you want to get out of the level:

Hold down the bounce skull thing that is after the bouncy skull platform shown in the previous pic with touch and then jump behind it.

http://ic.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/08ccbb43b052942621227f294720f7582a7948bc.jpg

Jump all the way to the right even more and you'll fall all the way down.

You can also jump out of that level by swinging with the grapple hook to go above the level. It surprises me how many people don't know how high the grapple hook can actually take you.

For the most part I enjoyed this level pack. However it was definitely not near the quality of the LBP2 version. This felt rushed and I think that is evident by the amount of bugs/glitches everyone is experiencing. I was also surprised by how low the frame rate dropped in certain parts of the levels. I kind of expected a little more polish on official DLC. Hopefully we can expect more DLC to come.

Those skull things are another thing. My finger slipped a few times while trying to hold down the skull, and the skull came up too fast and killed me by going through me. Because for some reason, sackboy wants to float in the air no matter how slow you pull the skull down, and if you release it when he's in the air, it kills you.

Hmmm, I've never experienced those and I've played through them multiple times.

That's happened to be in the official story levels as well, community levels, and my own. Sometimes you get "squashed" in those as well (official story levels.)
It's pretty common with that gameplay element.
Again, the slow downs are due to the Vita...it just can't process every thing efficiently. (Happens with other games as well.)

Let me add this about the frame rate drops. I know fully how frame rate drops are due to the Vita's hardware capabilities. This can be seen when first loading up LBP Vita; it takes a little bit to get the framerate going smooth again. However, the Vita's hardware is not the full cause of the frame rate drops within the DLC. Frame rate, within the scope of LBP levels, drops when too many objects/stickers/movement are on screen at one time. When creating a level, you can take this into account and plan your level out using the optimal amount of resources. You can still make wonderful levels without having to stack on layers and layers of stickers and materials. You wouldn't believe how many stickers they use in this pack...2014-04-24 23:16:00

It's also due to bad creating habits....like not hooking up player sensors to stuff that moves or to emitters. There's no point in stuff moving/being emitted if the player can't see it, but I'm pretty sure the creators of these levels didn't think about that.

The issue with the LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: DC Comics Premium Level Pack on the EU PlayStation Store has now been fixed.

If you previously purchased the content from the PlayStation Store, you should now be able to download the correct pack.

Apologies to anyone that's had to contain their excitement to play this new pack whilst the PlayStation Store team investigated the issue.

Hope you have plenty fun with the new pack this weekend!

We're working on it and should have these items added to the pack with the next LBP PS Vita: Game Update.
