(DVLC1) A Hard Place

A Hard Place (http://lbp.me/v/qq676wb)

Be sure to move quickly through this stone based platformer as the walls close in to crush you and everything else. Something of a survival challenge as you are given only a single life to make it to the top, both of the level and the scoreboard.

My entry in Dragonvarsity's DVLC1 "Sand in Your Boots" contest.

Features every single stone material as well as sandpaper. As you can imagine, this affects thermo quite a bit so the level is actually pretty short.

This is a F4F post so feel free to let me know if there's any level you want some comments on. Hope you enjoy playing.

Note: It doesn't seem to be letting me do anything with pictures, even from photobucket like i usually do. If anyone could help me out with that, much appreciation is in order.

Played this the other day and didn't get very far without being crushed, lol. It was surprisingly fun trying though and I'm determined to come back and have another go (although I did cravenly wonder whether you might consider adding some checkpoints along the way...).

I'm not sure what your problem was with the pics but if you wrap tags around those urls you should get them to show up.

This level drove me up the wall & then crushed me. I had a lot of fun trying to beat this & did horribly, I'm also determined to play it again & do better. Nice job!2014-04-06 03:09:00

Sand in boots contest?

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=83424-DV-s-Level-Contest-1-Sand-in-Your-Boots

This was run up until a few weeks ago. Just a friendly create contest.

Thanks for the help shropshirelass, and I'm glad you liked playing

. As for checkpoints, part of the reason I have kept them out so far is to keep players from just skipping through the level by spawning at the next checkpoints. There really isn't too much other than the walls themselves to kill the player until the last section either, so I wasn't too worried on that front. I do know they would be nice for a level like this though. I can look into it, but no promises.

I do need to do another edit for lag I think, to help make it more reasonable. It's a bit difficult to tell though since I only know about that secondhand. It doesn't lag for me at all. D:

Thanks for the comments apecheese. I should use that as the tagline for the level.

"A Hard Place, it'll drive you up the wall...and then crush you."

Hope everyone else enjoys once they play as well, or have played...you know what I mean.

Thanks again.

To all concerned – I own the HIGHSCORE on this level! Good luck!

This is one nervous, rage inducing, controller gripping, cussword generator of a level. I absolutely love how the level gets destroyed as you make your way to the top. Most of you will never see the top, but I tell you it’s beautiful!!!!!

PS - Bio, don't even try.

Ok, I need help. I want to get to the top. It sounds so beautiful. Unfortunately I'm stuck at the bottom. I do the wall jump, land on the small rock and jump up to the next sliding wall but then I can't figure out what to do next. I tried like 10 times. Give me a hint and I'll try again.2014-04-12 04:50:00

This sliding confusion has come up before so I guess I should address it. The walls do not make you slide up, it's pure wall jumping. You do slide down slightly however so jump quickly after hitting the wall. Also, the wheel that drops down is grabbable.

Final hint, follow the bubbles, they show a workable path.

Hope something there helps. Maybe the leaderboards will see a change.

This level is a bit too unforgiving. I can forgive having 1 life and the level is very unclear what to do especially at the start if you try to stop and think the level punishes you for it and drops you down anyway. To say this level is difficult is an understatement what I can say is it is very well made. I didn't encounter a glitch during the time I played it. vertical platforming is usually an unsee machanic in lbp these days. I admire your unique gameplay style but if your going to have disappearing platformers you should probably make them a little bigger as by the time the player gets their barings your platforming disapears. I do really like this level so it frustrasts me when a part comes up where I can't do it and you have time to figure it out. I guess that is a fault with me more than the level. Really all this level needs is direction however great level.

@Jonarrthan

Fair enough. I tried to give some direction with things like grabbing and wall jumping, and pathong but yeah, those disappearing platforms didn't have much of an indicator. At least not the first one, which is the most important. The size is only because most everything is standardized at 1 big grid length for crushing. Overall I do wish I had made some things clearer, but at the same time I didn't want it to be a complete breeze once it is figured out.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at your level soon.
