I'm Active, So Let's Get Proactive - Level Reviews

Archive: 10 posts

Hi Guys,

It seems like the level reviewing system is slightly quiet on LBPC right now, so I am offering my services, at least for the foreseeable future for a free level review

Sure, it's been done to death, but honestly, I am 99.1% Active on this forum, and I am looking for some amazing levels to play

Send me some links, and I'll send you back some feedback.

Of course, there are lots of other reviews who will gladly look over your work, however, at the very least, it's one more play on a level, and hopefully it's some feedback that can be of advantageous to you, the budding creator

Look forward to any requests.

Will queue them now, Comish.

I booked time off tomorrow so my girlfriend and I could go away, but she's ill, so looks like I'll be free all tomorrow to review levels! So, get them in now, Comish

I think it's fair to say that I am more of a platform player on LittleBigPlanet, mainly because I favour visuals over gameplay (Probably a stupid idea but still, I'm weird), however, there is no denying just how captivating the gameplay of this level is. Let's get to it

Gameplay:

First off all, this level is all about getting a ball from one end of the board to the other using a series of pipes. A concept that I have never seen in LBP before, and was very eager to see

Immediately, I was slammed in to the sudden realisation that I absolutely suck at mini-games! I mean, on a level that is unseen before, I genuinely suck! But once I got the hang of it, it was brilliant fun! At one point, you even feel smart when you can make the ball bounce of a small pipe in to a curved one and down the hole to the goal (It's a kind of "Guys, stand back, I got this" moment

Gameplay was smooth, fun, new, exciting, hard at some points, brain tantalizing and is a great game to play before bed so that you can fall asleep with a nice active brain (But not annoyed at the fact you broke your controller or anything)

Honestly, I cannot give any improvement to this section, it was simply wonderful. The logic used was brilliant, and despite the simpleness, it really shone out as an all time great! Well done

Visuals:

Now, of course, as I mentioned before, I am a lover of visuals and all things nice looking. I could play some amazing platformers, but if they look terrible, they're going down in my books as terrible. Harsh, but true. However, ComishGuy67 nicely captivates the audience with a simple yet textured and smooth looking playing field with a good use of stickers, items and in general nice lighting. (Take the hint about increasing your Gamma exposure as it really does help.

On top of everything, like I am now, if you just so happen to be sat at the Menu screen of this level when you're, Oh I don't know, let's say writing a level review, there are definitely worse places places to be. Menus have become something of a must have in LBP levels, and this one again is exceptional. Not just because it looks amazing, but also because it does exactly what a menu should do; give you all the needed instructions, and let you play the game. Another well done

Improvements to the visuals really only come down to personal preference. For me, the only thing I could suggest would be adding some kind of holographic display to the trophy when you win, and also maybe adding one to show where the arrow has moved to. Very small gripe, because they work well anyway, but sometimes it's nice to have a visual aid when seeing where things have gone

Overall:

This is a must play for anyone that enjoys single player mini games and offers some intense gameplay and some rather tricky brain time at some of the higher levels. It is a level that not only offers you chance to view something nice, but also do something that keeps your brain active and have fun at the same time.

I give this level, PipeWorks by ComishGuy67 a 4.9/5 (with the .1 genuinely being for the tiny visual improvement)

Haha, thanks! I wasn't expecting to get that score. I was actually thinking of remaking this level since I only spent about 2 weeks on it and half-assed a lot of the stuff I wanted to do. It could be much more simplified logically and I agree the visuals could improve.

I may make a vita version of this if I can find the time.

Thanks for the review! Feel free to review my other levels of you want.

Well I shall happily replay and review the new version if you do

I will review some more when I get the time later I didn't want to half **** any review, so that's why I have only done one so far

Hi Flames,

Unfortunately, due to lack of Vita right now, I am only reviewing levels created and published on the PS3 version of LittleBigPlanet.

Sorry
