Why Is Lava Not A Hazard

Archive: 16 posts

Hi Guys,

Anyone know what Lava material from the DC DLC isn't classed as a hazardous material? Seems a bit odd to me

Because if it wasn't everyone would be saying "why is lava automatically hazardous" Easy enough to put something hazardous underneath it.2014-03-18 20:26:00

Yeah but, why not an option to make hazardous? 2014-03-18 20:30:00

because it would be the exact same thing as fire hazard. In fact all you have to do is take some invisible fire-holo and layer it over the lava. And boom done. it now kills the player and has exact kill area to your control. *mew2014-03-18 20:39:00

Well that was the thing that brought me to ask the question I was using hologram over it and thought "Why isn't this an option" 2014-03-18 20:41:00

Gotta love that LBP logic.

LBP gives you a lot of control over what you want. And I think that's better than just offering a one size fits all "on/off" danger switch. If you wanna make it dangerous, you can use the existing LBP features to do that.2014-03-19 00:57:00

Yeah, I agree with that, but you're missing the point It doesn't have to be hazardous all the time. A simple addition to the properties menu to "Lethalise" or not, would be ideal, I feel Since then, you're not removing anything from the player, nor giving them anything, just saving time on having to use holographic material, which affects the thermo

I see what you mean, but I never once thought/ nor stated it should be lethal all the time

I think it's because of possible lag too. Plasma is HORRIBLE on lag and fire isn't that great either.2014-03-21 06:57:00

If you want to make lava hazardous without using hologram material you can simply put an impact sensor connected to a Hazzard tool (set to fire) on the lava material.

Now when a player touches it the lava material they will activate the hazard tool and kill the player (or make them burn their feet!). The fire hazard will only be active for one frame, so you won't get the full flame animation.

The impact sensor method is not really desirable for two reasons:
1. It doesn't look very good to see the "blink" of the hazard for a single frame
2. a player with good timing can tap X as soon as they touch the ground each time and jump across without getting burnt (it requires perfect timing but it's possible, I've done it before)
