Conjunction Junction

Archive: 23 posts

Hello! I present to you my little platformer that I've been working on and off then back on again for the past couple of months. This level actually came about from a little section I had made in LBP2. Was at my brother's house playing on his LBP2 and made a short little section in about five minutes. My bro and niece were like, that's pretty cool. I looked at it and was like, "yeah, that is pretty neat." So a couple of weeks later, I broke out the Vita and started building on the idea and ended up with this.
It's a short little platformer with your basic obstacles and contraptions. Nothing really fancy but I think it's pretty enjoyable and I hope you guys too. So without further ado, I give to you:

Hope you guys like it and if you have any issues, please report them. Thank-you.

EDIT: Where the heck are my manners? I want to give a huge thanks to Hyper, Slurms and Fluxlasers for playtesting, giving feedback and answering my questions in the Help thread. You guys rock and helped me immensely. Thank-you.

Thank you guys for all the support. I really appreciate it.
I went to bed last night with it at 28 plays and I was really happy with that. I mean, REALLY happy. I woke up to over 200 plays and am completely blown away. Wow. Thank you.

thank you for the play and review. I really appreciate it. I do respectfully disagree with you on the music though. I respect your opinion and thank you so so so much for the play and happy that you liked the level, aside from the music. I'm really stoked that you played it. I am really overwhelmed with the response this dinky little level has gotten and appreciate each and every play it has gotten.2014-03-03 15:15:00

Bio, you rogue! (sorry, couldn't resist!) How come you've been saying all this time that you couldn't create levels?! This was cool. I had a lot of fun playing not just because of the humour (which was great as ever) but also because of the platforming and puzzles! I only found a fraction of the secrets so I'm going to have to come back for more. Great job! Talk about hiding your light

Oh by the way you REALLY have to fix that bonus points hand out at the end of the level, lol! If you walk to the right and then turn back it re-triggers the cutscene and hands you another 10,000 points. Unscrupulous people may just take advantage of this.... *cough* (I only racked up enough points to beat Peter (Mr Towner) because I saw that he had cheated too, lol!)

Thank you so much Lass for the too kind words. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And about that exploit, SHOOT! I am fixing that right this instant. Incidentally, if you find all the secrets, the bonus is double! And, you still get the parade! I might drop some hints the way Peoria did.
Again, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you all! I am truly shocked at the response that this has gotten.

Very nice level Simple but a lot of fun. Will definitely have to have another go to find the secrets I missed (think I spotted a couple along the way). I enjoyed the commentary too, great way to inject some humour without using a story or anything. It was a bit annoying when that guy appeared and broke my combo but his declaration that there was in fact no mission to the level was funny enough for me not to mind

There was a part where I seemingly had to kill myself - after pulling a lever on the wall it activates a bouncepad and jumping on that enables you to reach a lever on the ceiling, but if you miss that second lever it seems you can't progress in any direction except forward into the spikes. Was I missing something? I did take a screenshot but forgot to upload

The part with the touch controlled bounce thing was also very confusing, I couldn't work out exactly what I was supposed to do and it took me a few attempts. The thing kept ending up at different lengths of extension and in the end I resorted to just rapidly poking the screen hoping that something would happen.

Apart from those minor niggles (and it's quite possible those are down to my own ineptitude!) a really nice level. Heart for you sir <3

Man, you guys are getting me all misty eyed and stuff. First, thank you so so very much for the play and kind words. I'm stoked that you took the time to play it and even more excited that you enjoyed it. That means the world to me.

Second, Gah! don't you just hate that? You've got a good combo going and then a freaking cutscene ruins it! Truthfully, I wasn't going to have any point bubbles at all, and was just going to work off of the secret lightning bolts. So I had that character and camera and everything set up and then as an afterthought, I thought, "Man, I really enjoy busting through point bubbles, I'll just put a few in and see how it is." It was later that I realized that it messes up the combo.

This. This part ticks me off too! You know how many times I did the same thing myself? A bunch. Then I would think, "well it's my own dang fault for missing that switch on the ceiling."
Maybe I should put a light on that switch or something? Or...maybe if somehow the player misses that switch and falls in that cubby, a paintinator appears so you can shoot up there? Hmm, I'll have to give that some thought.

Hrmm, I don't know. I only had that do that to me when I tested during create mode and then forgot to reset it before returning to play mode. It's supposed to work by you just landing on it and then just touch the platform and it throws you up and to the left. Are you jumping right before you touch it? Do you think I should take the touch function out and just have it be like player impact or something and auto kick you up there?

Might just be me then I tried touching before I landed, after I landed, after landing and jumping...I tried poking and flicking and sliding and everything. I'll have to give it another go, I was quite tired at the time

I've made some updates to this, based on some great feedback that I've received. Thank you everyone for all the kind words and support.

Things updated:

improved some visuals such as the big open areas underneath some places
fixed the bonus points exploit where you could run right, then back left to retrigger the points
fixed the place where you pull the sponge to hit the button. Now it's on a one-shot trigger
added a funny (to me) bit with the Level Title Billboard
fixed something else, but I forgot what it was now, but it's fixed.
