Where did you go wrong? ...Reading and believing the comments.

You can turn off comments if you like.

I never recommend doing that. If people hate your level, then make a few modifications to make it better. If you don't listen to the reviews/comments, you'll never become a better creator, even if they can be hurtful...

Totally disagree. It's not absolutely needed to have other people's opinions to grow. One can you know.... try to think for themselves? And just do research online, ETC of how other good games are made in general if needed. But the Idea everyone should be forced to be a people's person and interact with the people who play your stuff is pure BS. *mew

Dude rock your Team Pick Bro. Who cares if anyone else thinks you deserve it or not? Obviously Steven and the team did, so be proud of what you done! I think this proves sometimes less is more. I did think it was kinda short, but it was a fun and frustrating minute that didn't go to waste.

On a side note, I do agree with Fumo, but criticism can also be good. I am not sure if everyone is used to it. I would encourage you to keep the comments on.

When I first took a creative writing class and my teacher and class mates shredded my first writing piece-- it didnt feel good at all! But by the end of the class, when I applied all the feedback I got, I ended up being the only student to get a perfect score on the final writing piece.

What I am saying is, dont take it personally. As creators, its natural for us to observe creations and think of ways they can be better. You can report or delete comments that take it too far. Get a general feel for what the community likes and improve your next piece. Every level can always get better.

Enjoy the spotlight and congrats!

You really think what he listed was constructive feedback? If he got a pick, leave it alone unless something needs fixed.

..if he gets feedback here or something actually constructive in the comments then maybe, but not when they are just cursing at him.

Did you delete it? I can't seem to find it anywhere. If so, I realize it's too late, but you shouldn't let anybody push and prod you out of what you love. I can't offer much more than what has already been said, but I can say for sure that a couple of kids trashing your level that had obviously earned its place do not mean a thing. They're insults, they're meant to try and put you down, but they're as low as anything can get in the first place. Brush them off and look to those who appreciate you instead, I can assure you that they're the majority.

I actually felt the same way when I put an animation out last year. I worked really hard on it, and not soon after I published it, somebody started totally trashing me about it. Even though it was nothing but a fat wall of profanity, it worked at first, I honestly questioned the quality of my work, but more and more people supported me and sort of snapped me out of that stupid slump. Don't let a couple of jerks fool you into thinking like them.

If somebody has a 40,000 dollar car and puts good gas in it, it's gonna run well. If somebody else has that same car, but pours ketchup in the tank instead, they're gonna have a bad time. That doesn't mean it's a bad car, though, it's just bad fuel (obviously). And a really stupid driver. They're just giving you bad input! Plus, it's a game, they're just trying to be party poopers. The comments are surely not the focus of LBP. :hero:

If you're going to listen to peoples' comments you should pay attention to the positive ones as well instead of just focussing on the negative. Sure, critical comments can be great and incredibly useful with helping you to improve. And if you've read anything that's made you think "yeah, I could have done this better or in a different way" then that's a helpful constructive comment. But if all people are doing is disagreeing with the level getting team picked, especially in hurtful ways, then I can't see it as anything other than spiteful jealousy and you won't gain anything from listening to them. Maybe if they'd said "I don't believe this level should have been team picked because ______" and given a valid reason then it might be worth paying attention, but otherwise...no.

IMO, it's an awesome little level. A lot of fun and I haven't played a similar level before. Well deserving of a team pick if you ask me.

I played it before you took it down. It was original, just not polished enough. With some adjustments, it could have been an awesome pick. I too don't believe in turning off comments, but then, I've never had a problem with confidence in myself regardless of what people say. Just keep in mind that a good 95% of the negative comments are jealous, and the other 5% are the ones trying to help.2014-03-01 16:39:00

What he listed was troll feedback. However his level had several reviews that were about legitimate issues that could be fixed with a tiny bit of effort. For example, making the explanation of the rules easier to understand or adding a few details to make it look nicer. Several of those things could be implemented in literally a few minutes and vastly improve the experience of the level.

Vastly is in overstatement imo; I liked the way it was. I think the level was a bit short, so it fit well just having the player figure out what to do. That was kinda the point of the level--or at least thats what I got from it. The only issue I really found was typos like "Eazy", unless that was intentional.

But what does it matter now. He deleted the level anyway *sigh*.

Since the thread is about comments made on this level, and the level is now deleted, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread.
You've gotten some good advice and hopefully it will help you decide how you want to deal with the range of comments in the future.
