Rustbukkit's Studio

Archive: 7 posts

Hey all. I've published my first two levels in the past two weeks and figured i'd take a chance on getting some positive criticism from some of the best builders in the community... namely you! Neither one has been getting many hits as of yet, so I'd at least like to get some folks who appreciate how much time we all spend building to give me some feedback.

The first level I published isn't getting great feedback so far, mainly due to is difficulty level being beyond that of the average LBP'er... or so I'm guessing. I still haven't figured out what to change or if I even want to re-visit it again at all... so I'll just drop the subject here and now. (hehe)

I'm willing to give this F4F thing a try, but I need to limit it to 20 responses from me as time is something of a precious commodity for me right now.

The level is called Rustbukkit's Studio. It really began as a testing level to see what I was capable of accomplishing with regards to mood and atmosphere mainly through the use (and syncing of) lighting, music, and sound effects. After several of the individual projects evolved from testing into fully finished objects, I figured maybe it was worth turning into a little photo-shoot set level. So I ripped out the ones that just didn't deserve to be there and kept the others in

It features my full scale ferris wheel "Midnight Sun" which was the very first object I created in the first few days of attaining enough materials to do so when the game first came out. It also has a retro-70's disco dance floor inspired by the film Saturday Night Fever complete with uplit glass sectional flooring and a disco ball. It also gives you a sneek peek at a UFO that will be featured in my upcoming level to be released within the next 2 to 3 weeks (time permitting).

Anyways, if you have time I'd love for you all to give it a test play and let me know what you think. It's a short level, and I've left the option open for the player to take their own photo's instead of the horrible photo-booth tool that serves no purpose other than to fill up our dwindling save-space.

If your a fan of BATTLES' song, stick around at the end for the light show and crank it up... it's one of my fav's. You may also want to compare your score at the end of the level with the leader-board.... just to make sure you didn't miss anything along the way.

Hope you enjoy your visit.
Cheers!

I've tried to post a few teaser pics but this forum won't let me upload from my PS3 for some reason

Despite the fact that there isn't so much playing to be done in your level, the sets that you've made all look really cool. The alien world is my favorite by far. You got the decoration and the lighting perfect, and the terrain looks just right. If the level that you'll be publishing soon with the UFO looks like the alien world set, then I can't wait to play it.

The other thing that stood out as awesome was your ferris wheel - really great work with the lighting on it.

The only thing I'd really change with your level is that I might add in some more lighting in between the two sets - maybe keep some lighting on screen at all times so a player knows that they're supposed to keep running in the dark.

Cool stuff dude.

Would love it if you could check out my level 4. She's a Rainbow (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6185)

Hey thanks for the great feedback mr Radical 5601, (if that really is your name.. hehe). I'll try to double up the lighting between sets and see how it looks... I was trying to go for a "big empty studio lot" look as well as keep it simple. If that doesn't work, maybe I could add some signs to help guide players along to the right.

As for the Alien Planet set, I don't want to say too much, but you definitely WILL be seeing more of that set extended into a level.

I'll be sure to check out your She's a Rainbow level and get back to you with some equally positive and constructive criticism.

I went in and played through this, and I gotta say - you take that visual talent and put it into a real game and I think you REALLY have something. I thought the disco-light flooring was really nice looking, the moon area was great, the ferris wheel was great.

It looks like you've built the visual and technical skill in LBP - now you need to create full blown level masterpiece!
