Something I want to work on (Serious)

Archive: 11 posts

I've actually been making a dating sim for the past few months now. Yes, really. I didn't post about it here because this is an E rated forum, and my game definitely is NOT E Rated. ifyougetwhatimean.gif

Reason I bring it up now is to show I can write a visual novel style game, and have fun doing it. So here is my idea:

I want to make an episodic visual novel game mixed with a different type of gameplay (for instance, the project that gave me this idea was a visual novel mixed with a bullet hell shooter) that is episodic in nature. I kind of want to make something like Naruto or other Japanese style shoenens, where it's a continuous story with a large cast of characters in a serialized manner.

Now, of course, I can't draw worth an almond. So that puts a damper on that, really. And I know I've made many of you disbelieve I actually can do something like this, so I doubt I can get anyone to join on my crusade just yet. But I wanted to know, if I actually built the foundation, if anyone would be interested in helping make the art or other parts of the game or hell, even just playing the game. I know many of you don't believe me when I say this, but still. Thought I'd ask.

Also, I deleted that other thread because I realize it was too spammy and just a convoluted way of me trying to find something without asking saying it all out. Oh well.

Whaddya mean by foundation? The writing?

What kinda minigames are you looking to implement? I hope it's not baseball (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hnS-NYKl80).

I meant more the basic code/ set up of the game. Something to prove that I was able to do something.

And definitely not baseball. I wasn't actually thinking of minigames at all, more like a game with visual novel elements. For instance, someone made a Bullet Hell shooter mixed with a visual novel, so I was thinking something similar. Say, maybe a top down game with gameplay kind of like Zelda or something.

And thwswweet: Thanks That would be nice if you were willing to help. Course, art would still be the problem, but if you're volunteering to help me at least get started that'd be appreciated.

I'm hopeless at most of the technical stuff but if you need a beta testers I'll be happy to play.

I'm sure a few members capable of coding will help you. Good luck.

Thanks course, I wouldn't be so sure people would be willing to help program, let alone do art, but banks for your vote of confidence

Ahh, my mistake. It kinda combines an action RPG with a dating sim then?

If you chose a core 4-5 characters from the cast, I could do some placeholder portraits of them. I'd have to learn more, though. Are the characters reasonably developed in your mind?

Nope, not at all. I'm not even too sure if I want it to be fantasy or sci-fi, yet. Or the overall story, for that matter. I don't want it to be the generic shounen underdog proving himself, but yeah... Hm...

Thanks for your offer

I'm no artist, so... sorry 'bout that.

What platforms are you considering making this game for?

Considering the fact I am a total noob, anything beyond PC or maybe mobile would be folly.

And I don't like mobile.

Anyway, I have a basic idea for the plot now, so... yay? It's fantasy, btw

Let me stress, as a programmer, that you would need to tell me EXACTLY what you would want from the game, and what to do. All the gameplay aspects, the aesthetics, the mechanics. If you aren't sure about how you want to do it yet, then you are going to need a few days/weeks to make more solid plans for what you want the game to be.

Trust me as someone making a game themselves; knowing what you want to do, and how you want to do it, is the most important thing for a project to know. If you lose track of what you want to do you end up with a Bioshock Infinite. Hamfisted, rushed, and soulless.
