My thoughts on SackFolk design options.

I?m bored so why not. *mew

I've been into LBP fairly well for quite a few years. And even after becoming a skilled level/game creator on LBP. I still often found myself messing with costumes. Often trying my best to create unique looks that go beyond the basic Sack design. Why? Because I?m a character artist & writer. And Sack people are the only full-3D animated controllable actor model the game provides. And you can not make your own 3D character models. 2D cut-out models made with material and decoration are not the same thing and you know it.

However nowadays I more and more feel Sack-folk are way past limiting for me. And no matter how much costume DLC I buy it doesn?t help. I can?t make the unique character designs I truly want no matter how hard I try.
(LBP2?s Decoration reader problem especially doesn?t help with that.)

Basically I want to make characters that are more uniquely shaped & designed like the LBP2 or LBPV story mode characters. I am fine with the chibi size of the characters and I wouldn?t want it any other way on LBP. But the problem is Sony is not really supporting this for LBP. All their costume DLC way to strongly tries to stay with the basic sack person look. They never seem to want to stray very far or try anything more interesting similar to the story mode characters with the DLC. Meaning no matter how hard you try, In the end it still just likes like a sack with to much makeup on? Which is really unappealing for me.

At this point it?d be silly to try to complain to the company. Since it would be quite pointless and get us nowhere. LBP is what it is and there?s nothing us normal folk can do about it. I fully realize I just have to deal with how the game as it is or if I can?t then I should just play a different game. *mew

But I still can?t help myself from wishing they?d give us stuff that is more epic for example. Big cute eyes similar to anime eyes. No mouth option. Extremely skinny cartoon limbs. Some cute female legs/hips similar to the Story-mode character Eve. Or a smallish animal retro muzzle so I could make my Sonic costumes look better. And or whatever else.

I?m not and never was some LBP purist who believes Sony should keep LBP overly basic and close to the original concepts and reject anything different for the series?. I just never have been one of those type of oddballs.
(Excluding my opinions about if they should keep the game 2.5D or not )
Because the closer LBP gets to being a more full game creation tool the better it is in my opinion. I was one of the many first people hoping there would be AI Sack people who we could dress up and make into a actor long before SackBots were ever even a real thing.

I also have realized that perhaps I've just somewhat out grown LBP a bit and want something that offers more. Something that?s closer to being a real game creation tool. However while I could completely move on to creating real games. But doing that is much more hard and not really the same thing. For example It doesn?t offer that same type of community feel that you get from LBP with things like being able to work on stuff together with online friends and being able to play tons and tons of free games from the same community all made with the same game engine. Basically create type games are more casual.

I suppose MM?s new game they are working on for PS4 could possibly be what I want. Assuming it will be anything remotely similar to LBP but offering more freedom. Which really could be what I?d be looking for. Unless in the end they overly limit it again like LBP where you are limited to only preset characters. If that was the case then I won?t bother with it. Even the game being full 3D wouldn?t change that for me. Just saying.

Anyways this was just me sharing my thoughts and opinions about stuff that?s often on my mind. Not really asking anybody to give me any kind of answer to anything. *mew

As you mentioned, I've been guessing MM's new PS4 game will allow more control. Only problem is that I don't know how they could make it so that rigging animations is easy enough for the average person... Maybe MM could make a few defaults, and then allow other people to make new character animations in an editor and then allow them to share said animations? So if someone makes a character that mechanically operates like, say, Sonic, than someone else could pretty him up however.2014-02-16 23:35:00

That would be nice. Even if all the characters had the same animations options overall and their basic body frame was limited to a few presets. It'd be better then LBP currently. *mew

Yeah, considering they want their game to be accessible, limiting the body frame to a few presets is probably the msot we can ask for. Though future DLC packs could always add in more body frames.

But the initial announcement leads me to think there won't be a single character type like with LBP... Idk, all that focusing on sculpting just leads me to that belief. I guess we'll most likely find out at E3, where I'm hoping they'll finally announce more...

As long the presets would be editable AKA You can give them thin legs or create your own hair for them. ETC. it wouldn't be that bad.

But honestly hopefully they'll come up with some basic way to allow users to Animate/Rig/Create yo models so you can create crazy stuff like a two headed dragon for the main character in your level if you want. Because like you said. The concept video did kinda give that idea maybe. *mew

I think the Sackbots are fine. Its kinda what defines LBP. Its more of a case that everyone has outgrown LBP2--I mean it is like four years old and its about time we see something new. I'd go with Rocks suggestion and wait for MM's new game where it appears you can craft just about anything.

While I do think it would be nice for more variety of characters models, I would trade that for more thermo space any day of the week.

I don't really agree. If they started giving greatly better costume and sackbot options I'm pretty sure I'd be perfectly happy overall with LBP. And I never said there was something wrong with Sackbots? all I was saying is we need far better options for costumes and I would love far more animation options too.

Also while more thermo space would be great. It's not possible on PS3. I'm sure any LBP game on PS4 will get crazily more space. Which means bigger thermo will pretty much happen later on. Unlike Sony changing their mind on how to handle costume options, Which has a lower chance of happening. *mew

Yea I know you like sackbots, to make all the costumes you do. It will vary among creators . I Prefer objects that allow me to innovate gameplay. I will agree that it shouldn't be to hard to implement more character options though since those characters you posted already in engine. The next shot could be hub and we did Just get a save system . Anything is possible?

I doubt LBPhub will have much more or be much better then LBP2... But we'll see. Really I think the best shot of LBP becoming better in general is a PS4 LBP like I said. Now the question is how long that will be. *mew2014-02-17 19:24:00

From what I understand the animations are procedurally produced, so how they walk and stuff is derived from the character models themselves.
