Welcome to Episode 130 of the Spotlight! This Episode is different from all previous Episodes because for the first time we're featuring not just the best of the levels posted in the Level Showcases over the past fortnight but also the pick of the levels posted by members in the Recommendations section of the site during that time. Even though we’re now casting our net wider, we still only have 3 full spotlights in the LBP2 section of the Spotlight. We don’t want to get too apocalyptic here. With any luck this dip in levels posted in the Showcases is only temporary and the new LBPHub may bring in lots of new creators. In the meantime, though, for the Spotlight to continue to thrive we're going to need you all to help by posting any awesome levels you’ve come across in your gaddings in the Recommendations thread (assuming they aren’t already in the Showcases). So get playing and keep the Crew busy playing the gems you have uncovered xD

Without further ado on with this fortnight’s small but perfectly formed Spotlight!

http://ia.lbp.me/img/bl/74a8eb41e23784874fc288d5a926e79312a7d6c6.pngThe Unfinished KingdomOmieRTake an adventure in to the unfinnished kingdom. The place what was suppose to become something special, but because the king, the architect of this wonder place got old, he left and the kingdom left behind unfinnished. Special thanks goes to @D4RKSM0K3HUNT3R for the help!
When you first pop into this surreal territory, you may think, "wow, this is a bit random." On closer inspection and the further you go, you realize that there is order to this chaos. Man, there are so many cool things going on in this level, it would be impossible to list them all. This world is so real and unreal at the same time. The sights, the sounds, the impossible yet possible contraptions that convey you from one area to the next, this is a real treat that you have to see for yourself. This is the level where I'm going to leave a review like no other, this review will only consist of three words and with those words you can connect them together with your thoughts and that will describe OmieRs art including this level. The 3 words are : Abstract , Wonder, and Mystique. As a tribute to Omier and his awesome style he has developed into his own, I have left my name unfinished as well. Sometimes you hear the phrase "Less is More", some heed it, some don't. It's not everyday someone can create with such artistic vibrance with so little that leaves you in awe. The premise of the level surely fits what is contained inside, an unfinished, but finished masterpiece. So in conclusion everyone should play this level ASAP because it is The Unfinished Kingdom is another of those beautiful but completely surreal creations that could only spring from the teeming imagination of OmieR. You find yourself in an Alice through the Looking Glass world where most of the walls and floors are missing but, in the weird logic of dreams, the doors are standing proudly there, as large as life (along with the odd lamp and a bathtub!). But it does all make perfect sense really for, as the description says, this an unfinished land, one from which the master builder has vanished leaving piles of cut stone and scaffolding and cranes behind him. Even worse, part of this world is still at the drawing board stage and your path lies along the architect’s pencil lines, some of which are being drawn under your very feet and may disappear, leaving you to tumble into the void. It’s wonderful stuff, full of imaginative touches and the superb elegance and style which are the hallmark of all OmieR’s levels. There’s some challenging platforming in there too, requiring precise timing and long jumps to get by. So if you’re wanting to play something beautiful, other-worldly and quite out of the ordinary, this is the level for you.

http://i6.lbp.me/img/bl/9e63e03aae8ffb41bd1995b1f14418655c309c13.pngMacani xsmasher1116789Take a tour of an old, abandoned, rundown factory. This place was suppose to be empty and quiet. You may find that there's plenty of activity after all. Can you survive this perilous trek!?!? (I strongly suggest one player. Although more than one will probably be able to make it through, some of the sections/obsticals may be harder, or might not function properly) Music by @Velvet-Audio
"Can you survive this perilous trek?" Ha! "perilous" does not even BEGIN to describe this journey through a run down factory. I cannot tell you how many times I was sliced, diced, skewered, burned, electrocuted, vaporized, smashed, crashed and you name it, it happened. This mostly had to do with my playing skills and my playing style of go go go! This level is really cool though, with lots and lots of really neat contraptions. I'm positive that you more skilled players, and that means about 99.9% of you, will have no problems getting through this wondrous and strange factory. So many ingenious ways to kill a Sack! This level will make you sweat blood and tears but the obstacles are so cool that you won’t begrudge a second of the time you spend pitting your wits and skills against it. It has a setting to match too: this abandoned factory is just crammed with awesome steampunk decos, full of rusting but beautiful metalwork, ticking gauges and exposed wires flickering with electricity. It’s all so grungy and lethal and cool! So having grappled your way up conveyor belt walls that are hell-bent on impaling you on giant saws, wall jumped your way past smaller but evilly nippy saws and diced with death on a huge Ferris wheel of doom, you come to the climax of the level. This last section must have killed me 20 times but in the end I made it through the intricate, beautiful rotating metal gears and into the pipe and safety at the end...where I promptly collapsed in a heap. Hard but incredibly fun. Go on, have a go! I dare you… This. This tempted me to never say challenge accepted ever again, but I went again, again, and again. Oh I wanted to rage quit but there was something about the level itself that kept me coming for more and more after playing it numberous times! This level is awesome and really enjoyable and there are some hard challenges in gameplay that you are going to encounter in this neatly-designed platformer. Thought if it is too hard, the creator has given alternation shortcuts to pass some of the obstacles if you are having to much trouble. Though, the good news is that this is not as hard as Flappy Bird, and the achievement of completion is more epic than ever!

http://i9.lbp.me/img/bl/9d9be64e920a25b45df68c70b26b7ac9caedae16.pngTemple Turmoil 2: Trials and Tribulations RyanardoDaVinciSackboy's search for amazing treasures continues. After finding the Legendary Booty, Sackboy was told of a far greater relic of antiquity: the Chest of Magnificence. There is only one problem; the Chest is kept in a temple surrounded by liquid-hot magma!
Whoa! I felt like I was in an action movie! The director yells, "action" and it's one big action scene with stunt after stunt. Did I say "action" enough times? Definitely not, because this level is chock full of, you guessed it, action! I absolutely love the materials in the new DC Comics pack. It makes for some absolutely phenomenal temples. The story here is that you are in search of an awesome treasure and so you head into this temple full of devious traps and contraptions in order to claim your riches. Will you find it?Once again great use has been given to a great platformer thanks to the DC Comics Pack! Overall, the gameplay stood out to me while wall jumping all over the place and some of the game play elements had me say clever to myself a couple of times. Along with a very interesting theme, add this to your platforming list and you will not be displeased.I don’t know whether it’s down to the throbbing drums in the background, the fantastic pacing of the platforming or the stunning use of the new temple materials, but this level has a real sense of adventure to it. You can almost taste it in the air. Your search for treasure will take you through some great – and challenging – obstacles, which will test your skills and have you puzzling out how to reach those tantalisingly placed gold treasure chests. You’ll face spikes and lava at every turn. At one point you even find yourself platforming upstream in a positive river of liquid hot magma and doing it on bouncepad stepping stones small enough to make you sweat. And there are so many moving parts to this temple: you’ll be dicing with death again and again as you attempt to time your wall jumping and grappling to avoid a fiery demise. It’s quite simply tremendous fun to play. There’s just so much to do and the obstacles and setting are so well designed. A blast from start to finish, this level will give you jungle fever - in a good way!

Welp, I just had the most immersive experience handed over to me. Now to hand in my resignation to the Spotlight Crew due to what I experienced. Aaand there is bio typing his review right across from me with an unusual glare... *throws resignation away*. This is a fantastic encounter in Mars especially with the 3D glitch being used to enhance the full exploration experience. You take control as a rover and you look for information across the planet in the wonderfully created atmosphere and many obstacles to avoid. I instantly was reminded of the Wall-E but this little fella can bring as much joy to explore with. Give this exploration experience I go, find those data logs, and welcome to mars.
Ok, wait. What? I didn't even know LittleBigPlanet Vita could do this! What am I even playing? Pretty much my reaction when I jumped into this level. So different than anything I've seen up to this point. The visuals were knocked completely out of the park here. Once you get over your initial shock and awe, it's time to start playing. You take the reins of a little robot rover whose mission is to find out what happened to the crew that was already dispatched to the red planet. You use your scanner and search for clues that lead you deeper and deeper into a mystery that if you're brave enough, you may just find the answer to.

http://id.api.vita.lbp.me/img/bl/5cd05374fc295e4b16088d200d29751882ef3717.pngWet Paint VITASlurmMacKenzieShort. Abstract. Fun. Caution: Wet paint. Feel free to report any bug or issue you might encounter. I hope you'll enjoy the level.
Like my parents used to say, never get wet paint on your clothes. Well now as a sackthing, it's time to get into more wet paint that ever! Slurm, you have done it again, this time ingeniously using the concept of paint mixed together with platforming antics. In this wonderful splatter of fun, you will know how important a mere paint drop can be especially in the form of comunicating with the obstacles for you to get across. When you give this awesome level a go, make sure to remember "caution: wet paint" and smile when you see it because a piece of fun, abstract art awaits you.Hats off to Slurm, I've always loved painting. However, this takes that to a whole different level. The levels concept is easy, Let the paint guide you through the many platforming obstacles. Be sure to tread carefully with your movements, the paint may cause your Sackboy to get a face full of spikes if not timed right. Don't forget to collect as many Stars as you can, get the high score! All-in-all, this is a great level for anyone who feels like playing with paint.

Bamboozled - IGP
Bobbbio_
Hidden within the the tallest bamboo stalks within is IGP's serene tracks;Bamboo Grove. Kung Pu and Grand Master Sensei are betting on who can win this race.

A fantastic appearance by some familiar LittleBigPlanet curators and the first thing I think of while seeing all the bamboos are monkeys. The Imagisphere Grand Prix continues the competition with the bamboo-esque environment re-created in a 3D world thanks to LittleBigPlanet Karting in a racing form! This nice return to the Islands with give you some jungle fever, and it's your task to use it to aim for first place! We're heading back to the Islands! Sensei and her Panda have placed a bet on you and you must outrace the competition. Winner takes home the gold! This level really does justice to the Islands from LittleBigPlanet 1. The lanterns, bamboo and other small details really added to the ambiance, and tied this together for me. So, if you thought the Islands in LBP1 was good then you should deffinetly try it out in LittleBigPlanet Karting.

Maypole Grotto - Imagisphere Grand Prix
Bobbbio_
Maypole Fields hasn't seen any action in awhile. Mummers have been yearning for the IGP to take place in its scared track. Lets see if sack boy can handle this simple cruise. Try not to get a paper cut!

Tearaway, in Karting!? This is just as cool as it sounds. Bobbbio_ has really done the papery world justice by converting some of the games best parts over to Karting. All of the props look amazing, I can only imagine the time it took to make them. For fun see how many Scraps you can hit. Just when I thought Tearaway has cross enough universes since meeting with LittleBigPlanet 2, this just blew me right out of the LittleBigPlanet world as a whole! Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet Karting has merged thanks to this talented creator and good sack let me tell you that race does not look like it is made in Karting, but it makes it feel like a race in the world of Tearaway! This creator studied Tearaway and studied Maypole Grotto hard and he created it to magnificent wonders along with familiar characters such as those devious scrappers. If only there were ride-able pigs, but who needs one since you can make one of your own with your own karts! Never has the Karting world felt so paper-y and this race hits the mark right down to the fold.

Big Block Fort
IvoYaridovich
Toys! Everyone loves toys. Race about this track of building blocks and relive that childhood.
Is it me or am I getting a flash back of memories from the Toy Story movies that moved me in my childhood years? Goodness, I completely forgot how much building blocks are, you can create a lot of neat structures with them (no I am not an active Minecraft member but using cubes there is awesome too). But now you can race of them, and Ivo has created a wonderful layout with the kitchen theme and it makes me feel like I'm in one of those hot wheels cars racing towards a track but this time I'm in it and controlling the vehicle. Relief yourselves into the memory of your childhood and praise the moment where creating with simple objects are at their finest!
Time to put away the toys? I don't think so, not without having a race. Oh this level brings back the awesome memories of being a kid. As for the level you and your other toy friends are racing through a child's bedroom to see who's number one. Be careful though it is a kids room, anything can happen in there. Not all the blocks are very stable either so watch out.

Fact or Faction
Bobbbio_
Ray the Wonder Turtles continues his search for Huge Monsters. Much to his surprise he discovered an ancient race track, crafted from Imagisphere's precursors! Now IGP's taken over this bad boy! Do Huge Monsters enjoy kart racing!?
This race in the Imagisphere Grand Prix marks a return to one of LittleBigPlanet Karting's known themes, Monster Islands! Ray the Wonder Turtle makes an apperance once again showing off a track of the past as I say since you get an instant feel of pre-historic times. Race through the cave man era while boiling lava is surrounding you and many awesome dinosaurs!Do monsters like races? Sure they do! In this ancient level you'll be showing off your racing skills to this age of dinosaurs. Try to land first place to really impress them and your friends! Of course you'll need to be carful, watch out for the lava or you just may become a fossil yourself.

Ahhh even though the levels seem to be awesome as always it is nonetheless a little bit worrying to see such decrease in the amount of creators putting time into creating lately! LBPHub we need you! 8)

Anyway, congrats to the spotlighted guys and thanks to the spotlighting crew for finding this gems as usual!

Nice idea using recommendations, Spotlight Crew!

I hardly ever comment on these things, but seeing the remarks last fortnight about how things were getting repetitive for them, combined with the growing lack of levels posted made me wonder how the future spotlights would turn out. So, seeing you guys pull a twist on the classic formula while also recognizing the short list of levels was very neat, and made me realize that it's actually pretty smart, too. I hope to toss in at least a few recommendations before #131, and check to see if they've been given threads yet or not. (but if I miss finding an existing thread for a level I wind up recommending... well, we can always blame it on the site's search filter. )

@Dragonvarsity - thank you! Yes, the number of levels posted has dropped off a little. We don't want to get too doom and gloom about things but it did seem time to change how we work a bit so we can cast our net wider. Hopefully it's just a temporary measure but in the meantime, please do everyone post any great levels you come across in the Recommendations forum for us to check out.

Also a big thanks to jauw who has done a fantastic job giving the hub a special makeover for Valentine's Day. It looks great (unless you have an aversion to pink... ) so do go and give it look and let us know what you think xD

Quick question by the way: I see that the LBP2 Hubbie account has 19 levels published for the hubs, meaning that the next spotlight will reach the account's publishing limit. So are you going to start locking, deleting, or compiling old hubs together, or use some other sneaky strategy?2014-02-28 12:16:00
