The Ghost Ship

Archive: 18 posts

Hello there,
I’ve finally uploaded my first level so I figured I’d bother you to give it a look, in case you can’t tell, it’s set on an aeroplane – no wait, a ship – and you’re completely isolated from the rest of humanity due to a horrible catastrophe that obligated your team of researchers to set said across the infinite sea. Not exactly for the squeamish, or people who hate boats.

Hey thanks my Curious Sack friend, hopefully the night aids in bringing a little more fright to your sailing experience, bring on the dark!
And thanks you other guys, it was by far the most irritating level for me to finish, but I eventually got there, somehow..

I very much enjoyed playing this. You've created a great tense and creepy atmosphere and ship design is superb and fantastically detailed! I'm going to have to come back and play again as I managed to get myself killed once too often in the area where you have to pull the switches and I hadn't realised the checkpoint was limited lives only

In the meantime I just wanted to pass on one bit of feedback. In the room where you have to swing on the hooks up to the air vent (see below), if you swing too far to the left when you are on one of the hooks on the right nearest the vent, the camera switches right over to the left-hand side and you can't see yourself on the right-hand set of hooks any more. I had to drop down and go left again in order to reset the camera. It happened a couple of times but I'm sure it's an easy fix.

Anyway, great job <3

I feel more honoured than I've ever been, (and I've won 4 Nobel Peace Prizes) thank you friendo!

one bit of feedback.

Those cameras are a limitless source of frustration, but I'll set 'em straight! I'll go over them all and make sure the zones don't overlap or anything, thanks for pointing that out, if you ever get back to the hull you'll have to watch out, there are only so many black disease monster hugs you can take

in case nobody else could help u, just text me; cameras are some of my best friends in lbp

btw, i played your level and i'm so glad i did so. Most of these "dark themed" levels are (sorry) just some kind of the same cra... erm, shi... erm, stuff, but yours is really well done, detailed and filled with love and cool ideas, great job! you got my heart <3

Hey thanks a lot Shaggy, when I get the chance to give the level a full edit I'll get them all to work as best I can and if I can't I'll give you a message, and yeah some "dark" levels aren't much beyond just a bit of darkness, but it can be difficult to pull off any genre when creating, time is a creator's best friend and worst enemy!

May I review this in my review thread. Will play anyway, looks really good.

Yeah absolutely, just as long as you give me a really bad review and say the level is the worst you've ever played - hah, but seriously go right ahead man, and thanks a lot!

I'll check this level out as soon as I can. The thought of a ghost ship has always interested me ever since seeing the movie back in 2004, though this level problaby has nothing to do with that. Nice to see rusty dilapidated level designs, maybe I'll make an abandoned ghost ship level one of these days (like years from now). 2014-02-17 13:48:00

Hi Ironface,

bravooo, standing ovation for a really fantastic and thrilling and gloomy and entertaining and... I'm totally enthusiastic! This rusty look of your level is great and emphasizes the gloomy atmosphere perfectly! 10 points for the visuals and lights! Your story telling is thrilling and intelligent, 10 points for the story telling! You've also used some cool sound effects (f.e. the impact booms behind the closed doors) 10 points for the sound effects! Your gameplay is varied, stealth elements and riddle elements not too easy and not too hard, also 10 points for the gameplay! I even liked the cameras, the only problem I had in the room with the hooks and in the room where you had to deactivate the ventilator! In this room I somehow manged to get into the wooden box and couldn't leave it anymore (but thats typical for me! )
Ironface, you've created a fantastic level and I'm hoping that there will be a sequel soon!

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

Bit of a bump but I just played this after the spotlight (congrats btw!)

I really love the visuals and the whole atmosphere of this - it's a beautiful level and the lighting is great. Very eerie and creepy Felt quite Rapture. Seeing those things running around the ship while I was looking for switches was pretty scary haha. Love the camera angles too, all adds to the effect. The notes from the crew were great too, surprised me when the floor collapsed after reading the captain's message

And a very chilling ending too. I thought I was going to escape

Congrats again on the spotlight! I'll have a video published by the weekend as part of this week's spotlight levels, if you're interested in seeing someone play it

Why thank you very much Ard, yeah that sounds awesome, and a very well done to the Community Spotlight video, a great way to display the strong variance of the picked platformers (very professional) incidentally, I now want to play those platformers
It looks like countless hours of frustration have paid off, and maybe there'll be countless more
