That's right! We're going back to the beginning, dudes/dudettes! Each team is tasked with creating within a theme based around one of the worlds in the LBP1 story mode. As long as you stick to one of these worlds, you're keeping within the theme!

The event starts very soon... Make sure you've all added your group/group leaders!












Hello everyone, and welcome to the official thread for the 4th Create Marathon! I'm sure most visiting this thread would like to skim right past the introduction stuff and get right to the signups, but for the sake of those uninformed, I'll go into what this event is, how it works, and how you can get yourself a spot in the section below.


So, what is the Create Marathon, exactly?

Great question! The Create Marathon is an event that brings creators from all over to create a level within a 24 hour time frame. In the past, we've had events that have housed multiple teams, forming a contest, and others in which we've had a single team. The turnout during the sign-up period will determine what kind of event this will be.

Let's quickly go over what makes up a Team:

A TEAM is a collection of 3 groups containing 4 creators. A single creator in the group will be the "Group leader", who hosts the session. The group leader MUST adhere to the DLC restrictions listed at the bottom of the post. All 3 groups work on the same level in 2 seperate sessions, each session spanning 4 straight hours of create time. When the session is finished, the group sends the level off to the next group in line. This means each group will have an 8-hour break before their next shift begins, so don't worry about being worn out!

So, it looks like not just one... but TWO levelsOr more... who knows how many additional participants we'll get? will be coming out of the event this year! The 24 contestants will be split into two teams (Composed of 3 groups, as stated above!), with each team working on a seperate level!


Is the group rotation concept still confusing? Yeah, it is, but don't worry! I'll give you a simple layout:

GROUP 1 ---> GROUP 2 ---> GROUP 3 ---> GROUP 1 ---> GROUP 2 ---> GROUP 3 ---> Done!
(This goes for both teams)
(If this doesn't help, you can always ask for clarification!)


RULES:

In order to ensure that this event doesn't go into chaos (We've had a few rough patches!) We have to enforce a few rules that may be new to the competition. They are as follows, and you MUST obey them if you wish to participate. (Please?)


1: DO NOT USE ANY DLC that is not in the permitted DLC list at the bottom of this post. We're sorry for imposing this, but we need to ensure that each group can access the level in create mode!

2: Ensure that during your shift, you stick to the theme that is pre-decided, and that you don't make it impossible for the next group to continue it! (I.E; Be as thermo-friendly as possible, stay on topic, and leave notes explaining things like custom logic that may be difficult to understand!)

3: Custom music is allowed, but remember that it must be created DURING the event, and that you should also be contributing to building the level as well!

4: Your co-operation skills, ability to create with others, and responsibility will be tested in an event such as this, so try to be the best team player you can! Sitting in a corner and creating by yourself isn't the point of this event!

5: YOU MUST BE RELIABLE! Make sure you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you can make this event, your co-operation in this regard is incredibly important, as finding replacements may be difficult last minute! If you happen to be late, or have to leave during your shift, we will call up a replacement for you. A replacement creator will not be chosen at random. Since the sign-ups are based on a first-come, first-serve basis, replacements will be selected from the pool of people who may not have signed up in time to reserve an official spot.

All right, now that THAT is out of the way, it's finally time to give you what you've all been waiting for!


Sign-ups

Sign ups will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those who make it in too late to get a concrete spot will need to keep in mind that they might be called upon to be back-up creators.

All you have to do to secure a spot is:

- Give us the PSN you intend to use in this event.

- Give us your time-zone. (GMT-/+ ___ would be nice as well.)

-Do you have a stable connection, have all the DLC in the DLC list, and have qualities of a leader? If so, tell us if you'd like to be a group leader!

- If you have a twitter and you wish to share it with us, it would make it a LOT easier to contact you!

- Tell us about your create experience in LittleBIGPlanet. (All skill levels can join, we're just curious! )

The cutoff date for sign-ups will be Friday, the 21st of February, and teams will be posted during that week. Stay tuned, so you know what group you're in!

My PSN and twitter are both peoriaspitfire and I have a stable connection accept when OMGYOUWOULD joins and hoses it up. It looks like I have all that DLC. I’ve been hacking at this game since day one and know a little bit about it. I generally focus on thermo destruction and can manipulate and place a gravity tweaker with little effort. I don't work on weekends, so I'm available as a replacement, group leader or otherwise. Here's my info:

-If you happen to need a group leader, I'd be willing to fill the role. I have a relatively stable connection, though my experience in LBP has been spottier than most games in terms of latency (which varies from player to player). I have all the DLC, except for The DC Pack and the Nightmare before Chrismas. I can certainly buy those, but I'd rather not if I can save the money. But thats not an issue.

-I use the level creator fairly often having exhausted every other means of enjoyment in LittleBigPlanet, and while I haven't published anything mesmerizing (or blatantly unoriginal) I'm very familiar with the level creation tools (and even a few short cuts here and there).		2014-02-13 14:48:00

If you didn't know anything about me: I am a guy who has some decent levels that have gotten spotlighted and I think I am quite good at gameplay making. I tend to design levels using whatever called griddy style (you understand if you play any of them =D). Well hypothetically speaking if I were in on this, I have livestreaming equipment (laptop/game capture/thats it), I'm capable of broadcasting a four hour marathon live whether it's on twitch.tv or youtube. I think this depends will this marathon has 2 teams. If it will, livestreaming will ruin the surprise of the other team and teams could watch other team's livestream etc. I don't mind livestreaming if we have one team only though.

And I must disagree with you a bit about not having done anything like that before, because a lot of people have recorded their creating progress to Youtube. And as the best example I can tell that I (I'm so cool) even recorded stuff of the first create marathon to a video. Recording is in my opinion a bit cooler than livestreaming in a marathon like this if we really want some kind of social interactivity, but I guess you don't have to think the same.		2014-02-16 18:47:00

If there's anyone here who would like to watch/participate indirectly with a level as it's being created, then I don't really see the harm in offering that. If other teams would like to interact/participate I say let them, if not then don't watch it. If you don't want to see the level before it's finished then don't watch it.

EDIT:

You can also archive livestreams after they're finished. So technically you can livestream and record at the same time, rather than one or the other.		2014-02-16 19:08:00

We don't see a benefit to a livestream because the event is supposed to be about thinking on the spot with minimal planning.

If there's anyone here who would like to watch/participate indirectly with a level as it's being created, then I don't really see the harm in offering that.

I'm sorry, but livestreaming just wouldn't work all that well in an event like this. It would ruin the surprise of both teams to see the level being made. Also, livestreaming would allow people to participate indirectly, which wouldn't really be just the 4 people per group anymore. Looks like there is a lot of people entering this marathon. Should be a blast. For those who have not done one of these be prepared to have your entire lbp world turned upside. haha. those shifts go by super fast feeling. When i did this last i was like uhhh huuh? and whaattt was the other group thinking... haha. But it was lots a fun .

I just played Wiggly Piston's level and there was nothing "wiggly" about it! Loved the story and some fun gameplay. Can't believe you managed all of that in 24 hours. Good job guys
