Score Bubbles. Better or Worse?
Archive: 10 posts
I'm rather curious to the people that still play this game. Do you feel score bubbles on custom tracks help or detract from the experience? Feel free to say why they do or don't. It seems like a lot don't bother placing them, and it made me wonder if I should bother. I personally place them because I feel placing them correctly can help someone new to a track have something to aim for and assist them finding their way around on their first go of the track. Though I do admit, it does have a tendency to make things look a bit cluttered after the first go around. So what are your thoughts on Score Bubbles being around on race tracks? | 2014-02-10 10:08:00 Author: IvoYaridovich Posts: 88 |
In a regular race, depending on the aesthetic, I like them. Not when they're filling the track, but used as both a guide and a target semi-sparingly. Most of the story levels use them in how I find fun and appropriate. In a first time play of a level, they help guide people down the main track or find hidden paths, but for veterans of a level, it adds a new competition beyond lap time: "let's see who can get the highest score while staying in first!" The second use I mentioned is where putting them in hazardous or hard to reach locations really comes to shine - a mini challenge within a track, something you can walk away from with pride after getting, even without getting first place. Some people don't like how they look, but over all, I think they can add a depth to the game play that some levels are missing. | 2014-02-10 16:35:00 Author: StJimmysAdiction Posts: 388 |

You took the words right out of my mouth well said I to be honest I was using them just for visual aesthetic just to stay true to LBP fashion just because they've been in LBP franchise, and then I stopped using them. I was being lazing haha . But I realized whilst creating one day I, I could use them to lead the player in a direction, I feel like it's in the natural instinct to follow a trial of goodies I love the sound It makes when get passed 4x Maybe I should start putting them back down haha Personally I wish there was some way to that the can be used to benefit the player, almost like Diddy Kong Racing's Banana's | 2014-02-10 17:22:00 Author: Sirr Posts: 120 |
Like making you go faster when you get a certain amount? Its probably possible. Just need a score sensor and a threshold I believe its called. Then with a not gate on the base speed setting, and the threshold plugged directly into the higher speed, you can make a person speed up if they collect enough. | 2014-02-10 18:23:00 Author: IvoYaridovich Posts: 88 |
Yeah the kart get a slight speed boost for reaching 200 points, but if you get hit you lose it! I feel like there is so much potential with the score bubbles I just havent tested them out. For the longest I've been wanting to have challenges that go with each of the races that I make. Kind of like Modnation, where each track had challenges | 2014-02-10 18:36:00 Author: Sirr Posts: 120 |
Personally I don't think the score bubbles are of any importance to me. If they are implemented in a nice fashion then great. As long as they don't over do it with them. | 2014-04-13 03:21:00 Author: Cdub0817 Posts: 47 |

Hi Sackfolk, just thought I'd throw in a couple of comments, as a newbee to lbpc. Score bubbles are vastly overused to hide failings in levels in my opinion. I have to completely agree that the best time to use them is to guide players. As for me, the only time I tend to use them is as a reward for finding hidden routes within my levels, usually leading to a prize bubble for good measure. I think it's much better to use prize bubbles as a real incentive, the nice looted level extra prizes are always then worth going for. I have just used a simple piece of logic using score bubbles in my lvl, To Bee or not to Bee to trigger a speed and handling boost, if anyone would like to know how I'd bee happy to share! | 2014-06-08 11:53:00 Author: Scorpio1357 Posts: 460 |
