Cuboid Sandbox

Archive: 10 posts

Hey guys,
I have recently published a re-make of a PC game/simulator called Cuboid Sandbox!

Cuboid Sandbox is a game where you can spawn different colored cubes that fight for food and territory. The four different cubes are Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. Each cube has a health bar and is programmed to attack other cubes when they are healthy and flee to eat food when they are injured. They also randomly spit out a clone of themselves (have a baby) every 3-10 seconds when they aren't damaged. This random aspect allows different outcomes to a single scenario.

Right now the level is only single-player only but I'm working on a multi-player mode where each player has their own color and has to build their army before their opponents do.

Here's a quick video of me demonstrating the level:

Here's some screenshots of the LBP2 version I made:

This sounds really interesting. I'm intrigued to see a live birth on LPB so I've queued this one immediately.2014-01-19 18:57:00

Pretty fun. I would suggest adding a pause function so that battles can be set up carefully in advance.2014-01-21 00:18:00

Pretty fun. I would suggest adding a pause function so that battles can be set up carefully in advance.

That would be good actually. If you can set it up so you can plant your food and your squares and then activate them all at once it would be cool for setting up all kinds of simulations.

I played this the other day and found it really interesting. Although I get the retro visuals I think some detail might be good too, perhaps a future version with a more organic look? Well done on sorting the logic for this, must have required quite a lot of forethought!

Thanks guys!
I was considering adding a pause mechanic but knowing that you guys would want it Ill definitely add it in the future!

I was also thinking of making it like a roman battles simulator where you would have soldiers and supply tents to replace the current assets. Another commenter suggested a bacterial infection kind of thing. I think I might change the artstyle for the level for different months to keep it freash!

As for the logic it did have some planning out, but since it's mostly based on tags, tag sensors, and impact sensors it was easy to edit and change things if they didn't work.

Thanks for the comment!
