Movers veering out of line..

Archive: 6 posts

I'm having issues with a Mover controlled up/down platform ever so gradually veering to the right when used over and over until it no longer lines up with the grid (Or the rest of the level). Up/Down speed is set to 2 and Left/Right is set to 0.

Anyone had similar issues, or know how to fix it?

Can you place your Mover on a separate piece of Hologram with a Tag, and then have the actual platform track this Tag with a Follower instead?

Your problem is likely related to the physics of the LBP engine. Comphermc is discussing it in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pprtsFtQ8ik).

Thanks very much Bob, looks like that may be the problem. I'll give it a go.

Wish I'd posted sooner, been faffing about with it all week!

Another possible solution would be to attach a piston to the platform and set it's strength to 0%. This has the added benefit of offering easier control over the range of movement of the platform (if required).2014-01-16 19:18:00

The same issue occurs with followers set to disableUP/DOWN movement when you rotate them 90 degrees (this effectively allows them ONLY to move UP/DOWN, relative to the rest of the level). If left to follow something which is oscillating UP/DOWN they will eventually veer off to the right, this happens regardless of what material is used, even at 100% acceleration.

You can create a simple 'work around' for this issue but I'm not sure what actually causes it to occur.

I had a similar issue when working on Contrast.

I don't know if you've played it, but it involves shifting your sackbot between the white and plstform layers. Logic wise this involves two pieces of solid material moving between from the back layer to the middle layer and vice versa. So as you can imagine, for the 2 pieces to perfectly fit between each other they have to be perfectly aligned. Later on I had the idea of creating a moving level, but I had major issues with the platforms dropping down slightly, and moving "off grid" which prevented them moving between each other. Unfortunately I was unable to find a way around this so had to go for another option (which involved the platforms being stationary and the "frame" of the level moving to give the impression that the level is moving itself).
