Discussion thread for the new movie.

Plot:

Cranston plays a nuclear power expert who is involved in a disastrous incident in Japan that leads to a meltdown of a plant that kills thousands, including his wife. A decade later, his name disgraced, he realizes that a similar accident is about to happen again, and he and his step-kids (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen) get caught up in what turns out to be a series of giant monsters awakening, including the titular icon. __________________________________________________ _________________________________________		2014-01-13 22:26:00

I just hope that this one is good. It doesn't need to be nowhere near the level on fantastic big-monster-movies like Pacifc Rim. If it can just be good, that'd be great.2014-01-14 12:42:00

From the premise it doesn't sound like the film will be strictly about Godzilla but maybe I'm wrong, and if not wrong, then maybe a movie where Godzilla is just a footnote sort of monster won't be so bad.2014-01-15 13:57:00

You aren't wrong, in trailers you can actually catch glimpses of monsters that clearly aren't Godzilla. There's also this website. (http://www.mutoresearch.net/)

I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie, as the creators seem to be approaching Godzilla from the standpoint of his original concept (namely, the amalgamation of nature's wrath and a byproduct of man's hubris towards it); and on a more shallow note, it also helps how much they went out of their way to make him so utterly gargantuan this time around.		2014-03-23 03:19:00

I just hope all the trailers end up being fake advertising tone-wise and we end up getting an awesome monster-versus-monster blockbuster. I mean, it would be impossible to market in today's Dark Knight-infused movie-going scene, since two worst blights of movies are apparently vividness and the lack of unforgiving grit. I am completely serious. See that scene where the jets fall in the trailer? If Godzilla made them drop they wouldn't actually be whole. But these jets are. And also, that one thing diving in the water in that one scene? Not human-made, I presume.

If they actually make this movie have that thing, that... colour, then I think this movie can surpass what will probably just be pretty great otherwise.		2014-03-23 09:25:00

So did anybody see this new Cloverfield movie starring Godzilla?
Legendary trying to make Cloverfield good is kinda sweet in regards to the people who made the original, like they're trying to redeem them.
It's a shame they're not good at making movies though, so trying to make a bad movie good didn't turn out too well.
If they had tried to make a Godzilla movie instead of a crossover it might have turned out better.
It also probably could have benefited from a story but at least it has good visuals, that's all that matters.





Zilla forbid part of the visual effects budget go to character development, story, backstory, complete concepts, fleshed out creatures, or anything that might give the movie depth.		2014-05-17 22:33:00
