Alien: Isolation (Survival horror game)

Here is a game based off the Alien franchise that might not be awful but in fact it could be magnificent. Being made by creative assembly. It features one Xenomorph and by the looks of things it's near invincible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXFBsvg61f0 Thoughts? | 2014-01-07 19:33:00 Author: butter-kicker Posts: 1061 |
So it's kinda like slender man? If so I think this is how any Alien game should have been done. | 2014-01-07 20:48:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
Can't be any worse than the previous game. | 2014-01-08 01:47:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Can't imagine this being a very long game, if the entire gameplay is based around just avoiding the alien on the spaceship. | 2014-01-08 09:11:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
I heard it was going to be 8-10 hours long. On one hand, I'm intrigued and hopeful that this will be not only a good Alien game but also a game that revitalizes the largely neutered survival horror genre. I also like the fact that they are trying to stay true to the first Alien movie rather than Aliens (which most of the Alien licenses followed) and having emphasis on quality over quantity in regards to the single, avoid-at-all-costs xenomorph rather than hordes of disposable fodder to mow down. On the other hand, given the massively mishandled Colonial Marines game I am a bit weary of trusting a developer's promises, and I'm also wondering how well they can maintain the tension throughout the game to keep that sense of suspense and dread rather then it growing stale. The idea that the alien's actions are determined by how its senses respond to what is around it rather than following scripted queues is interesting but I can't help but wonder if players will eventually dissect the logic behind it's behavior in a way that allows them to determine the optimal courses of action to misdirect and outsmart it in most scenarios. | 2014-01-11 17:01:00 Author: Dapiek Absaroka Posts: 512 |
They better not screw it up. Really. Its survival horror! | 2014-01-21 05:27:00 Author: Seant1228 Posts: 348 |
Can't be any worse than the previous game. Have you played the Call of Duty games? Or the new Killzone? Those things could've been released in 2009 and would still be pretty mediocre. It can be worse. | 2014-01-21 19:57:00 Author: FreeAim Posts: 2462 |
So, reviving this thread since the game has been out for a bit over a month now. Anyone else play this? Got it myself as the first game I purchased for my new PC and I can say that not only is it not as bad as Colonial Marines (not hard to do, I know) but completely blows it out of the water in terms of quality. It's also probably one of the best survival horror games released in recent memory; while I found the sense of horror to decrease as time went on, the game does do a good job of maintaining a sense of tension and dread throughout almost all of the game. This is done not only through the alien's design and mannerisms but also the environmental and sound design that genuinely feel like you're in a playable version of the original movie's world and how oppressive it all feels. It also surprisingly does a good job of bridging the gap between the first and second movies and in one sequence answers a certain question regarding how the circumstances in the first lead to the second. And surprise, not only only is this not a particularly short game for a horror title but what criticism could be held against it is that it's probably a bit too long. That's probably my only major complaint about the title; it seems to enjoy teasing you with the idea that it's going to end but then gleefully moves the goalpost further down. It's okay once or twice but frankly if they had avoided drawing out the conclusion so much (and swapped a certain scene done before the ending and made it the actual ending) it would have made for a much more tighter, and well-paced experience. And on a lesser note, got the "Crew Expendable" dlc along with the steelbook case version of the game I got; it's way too short and ends so abruptly that I can't recommend purchasing seperately at all. | 2014-11-15 16:57:00 Author: Dapiek Absaroka Posts: 512 |
