PS3 Broken
Archive: 14 posts
I went on COD4 today and everything seemed normal. However, in one match the sound went off and I could no longer hear my gun or footsteps or anything, apart from airstrikes and voice chat. I thought it was just a regular glitch, but when the game ended my PS3 froze and I was just left with a black screen. I restarted my PS3 (As that was the only thing I could do) and tried again. Once more, halfway through the match the sound cut out and the game crashed. I realised that my COD4 disk was probably broken in some way, and sure enough, I noticed there was a scratch on the back. But when I tried to go on LBP, it said that it could not start the disk. This happened to all my other games. My PS3 wasn't reading any of my games so I just turned off my PS3 and later on I went back on it. I tried out LBP to see if it worked - and it did. Thinking everything was fine, I tried out COD4 again. However, the sound cut out and it crashed. Then all my other games stopped working again. It seems that COD4 is braking my PS3, but how is it stopping all my other games from working? TL;DR: COD4 crashed and now my PS3 isn't reading games. Fixed once, went back on COD and now it's broken again. Has this happened to anyone else before? Advice please | 2009-02-01 02:14:00 Author: GuyWithNoEyes Posts: 1100 |
wow, I knew COD4 was bad but not like this. Maybe call sony and see what they say. | 2009-02-01 02:23:00 Author: sjbluedog24 Posts: 80 |
Try turning off your PS3 and turning it back on again. If other games besides COD4 work, then your COD4 disc is broken, and you should get it replaced. | 2009-02-01 02:32:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |
It definitely has something to do with COD4. I was just playing LBP, went on COD4 and it crashed again. I'm not sure whether it's the disk or data or what. | 2009-02-01 03:16:00 Author: GuyWithNoEyes Posts: 1100 |
Personally, just to absolutely make sure I would try NOT using the COD4 disk for a solid day or longer. Not that it's necessarily the case, but it could be that the COD4 game is hitting a part of the memory or chipset in the PS3 that is not working properly, and THAT is causing the issue. If this is the case, just playing other games for a little while and seeing if the PS3 remains stable would give you an indicator. | 2009-02-01 03:44:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

But I can't live without COD4 :'( Meh.....I'll buy a new disk if the problem continues. EDIT: I just played Guitar Hero 4 and it crashed. Played COD5 and it sayed Parental Control was on (WTF?). There's no parental control, and now all my games are back to crashing. And I think my warranty has expired. | 2009-02-01 15:15:00 Author: GuyWithNoEyes Posts: 1100 |

Just look on the official forums, and you'll see no end of stories of people's PS3's breaking, and them being sent a new one next day, and it arriving the day after. Even when they were out of warranty. | 2009-02-01 16:02:00 Author: InsanityV2 Posts: 30 |

Hey all, I logged in last night to play a different game but my LBP disc was in. It said there is an update 1.09. I downloaded and installed. From here it went to the important information screen and sat for 2 hours nothing happening. I turned it off. Turned back on, nothing would work. Did all the repair options, then reset settings, then reset the ps3 entirely erasing everything. Once i loaded LBP and installed the patches 1.09 jacked the ps3 up AGAIN, does anyone know what is going on or what I can do, other than replace my ps3? | 2009-02-14 17:04:00 Author: taydawg Posts: 1 |
You can try saving all your game data and resetting your PS3 back to factory settings. If thst doesn't work you could try reformating the hard drive then install everything fresh. If you have a bad hard drive sector reformatting can help. Then reload your saved data and download the patches again. I would try that if I wad out of warranty. If the hard drive has problems reformatting you can try replacing it. | 2009-02-14 17:24:00 Author: Mattrick Posts: 214 |
Before you go that extreme, though, try erasing game data. Sometimes, that's all that's the problem. Sorry it happened to you, though. | 2009-02-14 17:26:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
Think erasing game data will fix my problem (doubt it)? The disc reader on my PS3 stopped working! I tried using other games so I know it isn't LBP. The disk just doesn't show up under "GAME". The only reason I haven't sent it to get fixed is because of the KZ2demo. | 2009-02-17 04:36:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
