Sony Registers Two new Trademarks For LBP

Sony Registers Two Trademarks for ?LBP;? Another LittleBigPlanet Game Incoming? Sony Computer Entertainment filed for the registration of two trademarks for the acronym LBP in the UK, indicating that something may be moving behind the scene of the LittleBigPlanet franchise, especially considering that we don't know what Media Molecule is working on after Tearaway. Both trademarks have been published for opposition at the end of October and the opposition period ended very recently, on December the 27th, so the registration should be finalized soon. You can see two screencaps below. http://cdn.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LBPTM1.jpg http://cdn.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LBPTM2.jpg While the first could match the already announced LittleBigPlanet Hub for PS3 due to the description as a ?game service provided as means of the internet,? the name is different, and it's not very common for an acronym to be registered like that. The second trademark is more interesting, as it has a double class. The first is ?computer game software,? and the second definitely doesn?t fit LittleBigPlanet Hub, as it describes physical goods, including bags for handheld devices. Lately there has been a trend of using acronyms as titles for games, especially for reboots or spin-offs of a franchise. It's very possible that this ?LBP? could be a new Vita game coming with a bundle (which could include a branded case), or even a multi-console game across Sony?s different platforms, hence the multiple trademarks. Of course no announcement has been made by Sony, and as always with trademarks we should take this with a grain of salt until the publisher gives word. http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/01/04/sony-registers-two-trademarks-for-lbp-another-littlebigplanet-game-incoming/ | 2014-01-04 20:19:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
Huh. If they "Reboot" LittleBigPlanet as just LBP... that'd be weird. Well, anyway. They might just be protecting their property with a renewal, so this isn't really that big. I bet we won't ehar anything until E3 about this or whatever MM's working on. | 2014-01-04 20:24:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Whenever they decide to make a LBP for PS4. I imagine it'll just be called LBP and not LBP3. Think about it. On PSP it was just LBP. On PSvita it was just LBP. Since PS4 is a different system then PS3 it could make since to just call it LBP. It's a guess anyways. I could see it going both ways. Just depends on how they want to sell it. *mew | 2014-01-04 20:46:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
The description of the first trademark request seems quite interesting as it doesn't describe anything that reveals too much. We all basically know what LBP Hub is, why would Media Molecule wrap it in all kinds of fancy words? Since a PS4 technically is a computer it would definitely count as a possibility that the game is coming to the PS4. I'm not sure, but I think Media Molecule is making a spin-off LittleBigPlanet, or rather "LBP", for the PS4. But it has to be big, for a whole new game, and with MM's latest teaser at E3, I don't know what to expect! About 7 months ago; LBP3 was also titled on a Sumo-Digital developer's resume. I'm still expecting something from SD within a year or two: http://i.imgur.com/2YrOBWR.png Looking forward to more information. -- Jauw | 2014-01-04 23:23:00 Author: Jauw Posts: 484 |
"Toy and playthings" Bleh, the first thing that made me think of is Skylanders. I hope LBP hub isn't a skylanders type thing.... | 2014-01-04 23:33:00 Author: AmazingKittyCat Posts: 204 |

Especially something on this scale, and especially when there's already a game in the series on there still making decent money through DLC. | 2014-01-05 02:21:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

I would not a like a skylander-esque thing either. -hyper | 2014-01-05 02:35:00 Author: hyperdude95 Posts: 1793 |
Huh. If they "Reboot" LittleBigPlanet as just LBP... that'd be weird. I've played enough reboots to know where this is going. https://24.media.tumblr.com/1b81357e5eb7eec562d49ae989d4a5e6/tumblr_myyqpqBs2T1s7jujco1_1280.png | 2014-01-06 04:53:00 Author: Chdonga Posts: 388 |
