Starting small and getting big.

Archive: 1 post

Hey Guys!
People always ask me how I got so many hearts and started understanding the logic in LBP2. I just want to say that I definitely did not start like this and I still dwarf compared to other players. It took a lot of time, effort, and experience to get to where I am today. (For those of you who don't like reading I'm going to explain my life story here)

I started with LBP1 about four years ago just playing with my friends. I saw all these cool levels and was inspired to make one myself. For those of you who have heard of me you may know that the first level I published was Bad At Driving. That was the second level I ever published. The first level was one where you controlled these cardboard ragdolls and tried to push your friends into dangerous gas. I thought it would get popular at the time but I found out how harsh the internet could be. To be honest it was a bad level and it got a lot of hate for it, so I deleted it.

I then started making less complicated levels that focused on sillier stuff and not gameplay. I even make a bomb survival! It was only when LBP2 came out when I really made my mark. I played all the tutorials and experimented with sackbots. Thats why my first LBP2 level was the testing of some flying sackbots! Once I got used to the logic I had an idea that nobody made yet at the time. I wanted to make endorphin in LBP!

If you don't know what Endorphin is, its a physics simulator that focuses on realistic ragdoll behaviors.

After a lot of tweaking gyroscopes I eventually make the first 'Realistic Ragdoll'.

It got a lot of great feedback so I then took it to the next step and re-made one of my favorite games, Sumotori Dreams!
In the game you control blocky robots who find it very hard to stay on their feet. It probably took me half a year to complete just because I wasn't planning on making a level out of it. I posted a couple videos showing off what I made by crashing cars into them and everybody loved it!

This is when I decided to make the level. It took a while and there were many bugs I had to fix. I wasn't used to making menus in LBP2 so it was very difficult for me. Once I got the hang of it though I had enough experience with logic to create the rest of the level.

The first time I published it was actually during one of Sackinima's livestreams, so I asked if he would like to play it!
(The actual footage starts at 40:00)

There were a LOT of bugs. Some of them boggled my mind so much that I had to re-make sections of the level, including the title screen I had trouble with before! After many hours I had all the bugs fixed and was surprised to see that people were actually playing the level! after the first couple hounded plays I decided to add more maps to the level, so I kept adding and adding until one day I found the level uploaded in a video on YouTube by someone that I never met before! That YouTuber was l3laster who I recently won $50 from, but thats besides the point.

I made about 600 hearts from that level alone and in total (before the level got taken down) it got about 16,000 plays!

I'm not posting this to brag to you guys, I'm posting this for all the creative people who don't have the courage to post any levels. I grew from making a crappy little LBP1 level into a creator who people look up to, and I believe that if I can do it everybody else can. If you don't believe me, see what my old levels were like. All of these are levels that I took down due to their bad quality, or they were never published at all:

Never give up if you come out with a couple bad levels. You learn from your mistakes and your bound to have at least one good level thats worth sharing. Thats why people copy and paste levels, their just afraid of failure.

Failure is the only way to succeed and success is the greatest feeling you can have.
