Help with turning off music.

Archive: 13 posts

Sounds pretty simple but I'm having a heck of a job doing it. All I want to do is stop the music from the section before WITHOUT starting another piece of music. I don't know if I'm missing something here ... I'll tell you how I'm doing it at the moment so you can all have a good laugh: I'm placing music with the volume turned off on a piece of stickerpanel (invisible). I'm then attaching a mover to the stickerpanel and triggering it to go downwards with a player sensor! The nature of my new level will mean I'll have the floor littered with music and stickerpanel . I tried activating the music with logic but even when it's then turned off the music continues.2014-01-03 14:14:00

There is a sound modifier logic tool that will allow you to mute the volume. Is that no good to you?2014-01-03 14:24:00

Can you place it on music and does it turn it off entirely? I don't want a situation where when I go back to an area where the music is muted (and I've set another track off) it mutes the other music too because I'm now in range of the 'muted' music.

I've looked and I can't find any logic to mute music. Seriously, in all this time, why the heck haven't either tarsier or MM added an 'on'/'off' switch? All I want to do it turn one music track off and start the other when a condition is met.

Once the music is turned off, will it be needed again? I don't recall whether simply destroying a music object stops playback.2014-01-03 18:53:00

I tried destroying it but it glitched some of my level so I didn't attempt it again.

Well the sound modifiers can be activated by anything you want, just like any logic. You can alter the background noise, make the sound muffled etc etc. You can activate it and deactivate it whenever you want.

Another way (if you want to permanently stop the music) could be to place it on a sequencer. Perhaps set the sequencer to 'positional'. Have some way to trigger the sequencer so that the music sequencer plays when you want. Then you should be able to set the sequencer to reset as and when you choose, thus in theory the music should also stop?
I mean, I'm just guessing here, but it's worth a try I suppose.

Couldn't you activate an empty music sequencer with nothing in it?2014-01-03 21:29:00

Here is the scenario: In the level prior to the level I'm having problems with, you have to die to be emerge in the next section via an infinite checkpoint. I need the music to immediately stop at that point. I've put the same music (on mute), but even though the music isn't playing, it still effects the other music, and I'll explain that too. I have a skipping game in a small area. You have to jump on bouncepads over a wall and it's when you first get over the wall that the new music kicks in. The problem occurs when you bounce back because even though it's muted, it overrides the other music and turns it off so that it turns back on again when you skip over to the other side. You need to skip 6 times to open a trapdoor. So it goes: music on/music off/music on/music off ... and so on.

edit: Ok, this is weird. I decided to risk putting the music on a square of sticker panel and then a destroyer on that too. When I first tried that it messed most of my level up but now it appears to have worked! It mutes the music and then disappears which is exactly what I wanted.

Thanks everyone for the help, especially those that mentioned using a destroyer lol. I should have been braver I suppose but I really didn't want to risk introducing a glitch into my save file because last time I did that I had to start all over again.

One thing: Did you tried starting the very same track you were using again but with the volume set to 0? 2014-01-03 23:26:00

That was the first thing I tried, but if you read my scenario above you'll see the problem with it. Getting rid of it altogether with a destroyer seems the obvious solution but one I was afraid of using because of a problem it caused in my level. It's working fine at the moment though ... fingers crossed.

Oh I see! Well, at least you got it working now! Let's hope it stays that way. I'm looking forward to playing it when it is done

I'm keeping things simple for now, I recently played some levels by Dolphins-R-Lame and felt inadequate.

Hahahaha we all start with quite simple levels anyway. Dolphins-R-Lame is quite an experienced creator 8)
