Upcoming Games of 2014

Archive: 20 posts

This is a thread to talk about upcoming games next year. Which ones are you excited for? Which ones do you think won't be good? Stuff like that. For me, I'm most excited for Tales of Xillia 2 coming out next year in the US and Europe, and for Infamous: Second Son.2013-12-29 22:06:00

5. DarkWood: Reason: Are you ready to pee yourself?

4. Titanfall: Reason: Shingeki no Kyojin. IN THE FUTURE!

3. Dying light: Reason: Mirror's Edge + The Walking dead + ??? = PROFIT

2. Star Wars Battlefront Reason: shfsogsgags NEW BATTLEFRONT GAME ahddhf

1.Tom Clancy's The Division: Reason: If it lives up to what I've seen so far it could be banned for making all the other games look bad.

Battlefront]

Given my recent tendancy to very rarely buy games the year they are released, the new Battlefront will probably be the only game I buy on day one any time soon

There's a few games I'm looking forward too.

But I'm really looking forward to new games that haven't been shown yet. Like the 2014 Sonic game that is very likely to be out near the end of that year. *mew

Dark Souls II
The Crew
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix
South Park: Stick of Truth
Witcher 3
The Order 1886
Infamous Second Son
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dying Light

I doubt we will see Battlefront until 2015 along with others that I can't wait for like Uncharted and Kingdom Hearts 3.

Persona 5-If you are an rpg fan and have never played Persona 4, shame on you. Persona 5 will be the best RPG this gen. Yes, better than Xenoblade. Atlus has grown into very smart JRPG developers. Persona 4 golden is the highest rated Vita game to date. You heard it here first.

Witcher 3--Excellent game with amazing detail. Its one of my favorite western rpgs.

Metal Gear Solid V
Kingdom Hearts 2.5
The Order 1886
Devils Third( Itagaki finally shed some light on the game).
Final Fantasy XV if it releases next year--though I suspect this will come out in 2015.
Super Smash Bros WiiU
X by monolith
Child of Light--not a triple AAA rpg, but still an interesting indie game.

Couple others, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Obviously I'm looking forward to battlefront but another game I'm looking forward to is East vs west. Basically it's a Cold War strategy game similar to hearts of iron (set during World War Two). It was due to be released 2Q this year but delayed and hopefully be out summer 2014.2013-12-31 00:16:00

I'm excited for smaller games such as Galak-Z, Rime and Transistor.
And big games like Witcher 3, Infamous: Second Son, Metal Gear Solid V.

And plenty of other games, many of which have been mentioned in this thread. Hopefully Media Molecule properly announce their PS4 game soon as well, as I reckon that will be the one to beat.

Sounds like this has a pretty good chance of being far better than any Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age game.

I don't know from what I've seen, Bioware has finally learned from their mistakes with DA2 and DA:I looks quite promising. But we all know Dark Souls II beats them all to death, literally. XD

I hardly look forward to any game coming the next year (though the South Park game has captured my curiosity, to tell the truth). All of them (and I mean every single one I have seen a trailer to) look like the game industries making them, instead of trying something bold and new, go with simple premises that have been already done to death and I honestly lack faith in any of those games being any good. While my personal experience to next-gen is limited to playing (the abysmally terrible) Killzone: Shadowfall at a friend, it looks like that's the material we are going to get for the entire next year: rushed, poor remakes of games we all have already played through a hundred times with a few extra quirks to them and a new shining sticker on top.

This year's best console-games were arguably those that relied on bringing high-quality gameplay with top-quality story. Bioshock Infinite was simply a great game thanks to its creative, action-packed (and simply fun) gameplay tied together with a fascinating and well-structured story, GTA V was just very well made and actually had the guts to be bold and take the limits of video-games a little bit further while offering a wide variety of gameplay elements and simply being one of the largest games to date with a very well written story, and the crown-jewel of the year, Tomb Raider which relaunched an old franchise with games (and movies) that have all been, in my opinion, terrible so far. However, while Tomb Raider was very deep and multi-layered game and its gameplay was action packed and fun, it also told probably the best story in a game since Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The fact that Tomb Raider actually made loss sort of makes me sad, but that's a different story.

Much like movie-industry, it looks like the majority of the customers of video games seem to go for blatant and simple games which we have already seen a hundred times instead of bold games that dare to have personality to them. Yes, I know that a few such games made profit this year, but the thing that contrasts this is how people have actually went forward to promote a mediocre game which tells another story which is supposed to be emotional and impacting, but in the end doesn't simply work due to the terrible piece of dirty toilet paper that is the rest of the game (and the story isn't honestly that good either). What is the game I am talking about?

Well, let's just say you will be the last of us pondering that, since I am out. Peace and happy new year for gaming!

PS: Every time I say "this year" I mean last year. It just takes me a few weeks/months/years to get the grasp that the year has changed.

I hope you're right, footage certainly does look good but with EA involved, I think we'll need to wait and see. They're quite good at messing things up by dictating games be built around micro transactions, as well as making it so it can be as easy and accessible as possible, thus making things much less interesting, as your hand is held throughout. But we'll see, I did love the first game.

As for Dark Souls 2, you may be right, will be a tough one to beat, I'm sure. I hope we see a PS4 version.

Certainly looks that way. I've not seen anything very interesting so far.

Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, Dead Island isn't a bad game, but Dying Light doesn't look like much of an improvement on it.

Off the top of my head..

Monolith Soft's X (if it comes out in 2014, that is)
Infamous: Second Son
Kirby's Triple Deluxe
Dark Souls II
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy
Mario Kart 8
Child of Light
Super Smash Bros. 4
Professor Layton X Ace Attorney

I'm looking forward to:

Infamous Second Son
Watch Dogs
Titanfall
Thief
Destiny
Wolfenstein The New Order
The Division
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

Most of these games are shooters and action games, but I REALLY look forward to some of these amazing titles.

Also, the fourth rule of gaming: "No game that is released in a year from the new console release will be any good."

I may have sounded a bit negative in my last post, but let me get this clear: I am planning on actually buying a PS4 in about a year or so. I still want to play the next Elder Scrolls game (though that is far, far away in the future), the next R* open-world game (whatever it will be) and if there will be one, a Blizzard-game releasing for the console(s). While Blizzard stumbled quite a bit with Diablo 3 (which is heavily flawed but still an okay 6/10), they have yet to make an actually bad game and even D3 had cool new auction-system, which was honestly one of the best things in the game, and Rockstar has yet to release an open world game that isn't at least a 9/10 game, so yeah.

There is stuff I am looking for, but not in the next couple of years. At least I think so. The best years for a console are between the 3rd and 6th years since original release.

Oh, I'm also excited for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. I'm not a bit Fire Emblem fan, but I love SMT, and I want more Wii U games.2014-01-03 22:08:00
