Old Skool Cinematic Rubbish

The idea of the game is to capture the enemy's flying Dreadnought, a ship that flies.
The level is loosely based on Karel Zeman's 1958 film "A Deadly Invention"(Jules Verne's book), and thats why is in B&W.

I'm not going to tell you anything in the level because it'll ruin the suprise, well ok minus the dreadnought.

Thanks, I think an Eraserhead inspired LBP clothing pack is way overdue!

I just got back from playing this one, and you know what? That was pretty ASTOUNDING.

This game had a really good feel to it, and a great fisual style.

PROS:

LOVED the black-and-white style

Great gameplay

The move from walking to stearing a hot-air balloon, to that ship was really cool.

Even the trees and roots were well done!

CONS:

Used a lot of the MM creature objects. In this case it isn't horrible, but it would be neat to have more of the creatures based on some recognizable creatures from the types of movies you are parodying.

I would have loved to see more story/text based around the subject matter. This is a golden opportunity for a level to contain more of the pop-culture influence that it's trying to portray.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I gave it 4 stars and a heart (I would go back and give it 5 stars if you did some more custom creatures - or if it turns out there was a hidden reason for doing this that I'm ignorantly missing).

Great job!

Thank you for your detailed review CCubbage, I'm glad you liked it. I'm not surprised that you brought the creature creation part of it up, because the MM creatures that are in there now were originally markers for the ones I was going to create. After a month of design and only the creatures to finish ,I stupidly gave it to some friends to test in which I spent the next two weeks messing about making it easier. By that time I was tired of the level and released it warts and all. But now you brought that up theres no reason not to put them in.

On the subject of adding more text to the level, there is definitely a place just before the rain storm thats got room, i'll have a look for more places.

My complaint with the level is that ship flying part might be over long, I did have some event set up for that section, but nothing worked out. But as you didn't bring it up I'll keep my mouth closed.

Anyway Thanks again for the review, I'm getting my PS3 back today so I'll be able to play the showcase levels, and write some reviews.
