Capture Prevention

Archive: 13 posts

Hello fellow gadders,
I did a quick search and found no topics regarding this subject...I apologize if this already has.

I'm sure most of you have experienced this in one form or another. You are on your moon, and a visitor attempts to capture an object or a sack person design that you have created. Yes, I understand that you should only invite trustworthy people to your moon. However this really should be an easy fix with a patch from the developers. Currently there are several ways to prevent an unauthorized capture.
* Obviously only invite people you trust.
* As soon as you see the capture tool being used, press rewind, followed by a kick.
* Hide some of the layers of the object (logic), so if captured they would be missing key components needed for it to function.
* Set up an auto destroy logic so when this object is not in your level, it destroys itself.
* DLC stickers
* And some other emitter trickery with timing.

The last 3 can be defeated with a halfway decent creator with a little but of persistence. I can only suggest, and am only confused why one the two following suggestions has not been applied and updated to our current LBP2 build:

1.) Implement a host setting where if the capture tool were attempted to be used by a guest, it shall be confirmed by the host first.
2.) Another variation to this would also work for multiple creators on the same project, where everyone in the room MUST confirm the capturing event prior to it occurring.

I believe implementing this into the options page, maybe adding a few functions like on/off, host/group confirm, etc; would be an excellent solution to a current issue. Until then, careful who joins your lobby and happy gadding...

Both of these can currently be defeated if a visitor gets disconnected when the creator returns to the pod. The visitor can get left on the creator's moon and is then technically the host, and can capture anything at will.

Yep those are all great suggestions. I agree that it can be quite annoying when someone tries to capture your object(s)

A simple menu-button would be fine. You should be able to tick off a box that says: "Allow players to use Capture Tool" = Off. Problem solved. Not really a HUGE problem though. But a nice suggestion!

I have a better fix, and it always works perfect for me
Put down a controller connected to a movie camera, and make it to closest player, and lead player only

now connect a button to a movie camera that is in a corner somewhere far and when they join and attempt to capture you can screenlock them, and promptly kick them

hope this helps

@amiel, that is actually a simple and effective method. I like that. I would like to develop a system that uses this simple function for the community. Obviously only with your blessing...2013-12-16 07:17:00

Greetings all my solution is simple 1. Take a thin layer of hologram and place a tag on it name the tag object killer or something of that sort, then set the holo to 0 brightness, save it as an object, then take out the 3d tool made with the terrible Oni object( Look it up in the community levels ) and set the emitter to emit the holo/tag combination. 2. then walk the 3d tool to the very back 3d layer and then emit the tag, then destroy the 3d tool. 3. In a microchip place a tag radar tweaker set to inverted (Tag radar can be found in the cross controller level ) ( Make sure the Tag radar is set to the same name as the Tag and set to the same color as well ) (Or use a regular tag tweaker set to maximum range) and a destroyer,As long as the the tag is in the level the tag radar is off and everything is fine but if the object is copied by some unscrupulous sack and they try to use it without that tag in place then the tag radar activates and the stolen object explodes upon creation.Place this microchip on your object and set the Destroyer to all connections. The tag that is emitted in the level cannot be selected or copied as it was emitted on the very back 3d layer, the only way to remove it is to delete the level.2014-07-17 05:58:00

Personally, I don't really care if people capture my objects. If they can figure out how to use them then, go them. Generally my objects have a lot of logic that doesn't have the best notation. But, I mean, LBP is all about sharing though, right?2014-07-21 22:08:00

I agree! I wish there was an option to enable/disable capture for certain players, like the mute/unmute 2014-07-26 12:06:00

An easy prevention from people copying your work is...
Just not letting people join you on your moon, unless they're trustworthy friends. Or...
Not bringing out valuable objects in a create session with someone. :|

It's annoying for people like me who like to brag about what they've made. I'm a change man now and I plan on sharing everything.2014-07-29 05:06:00
