Taking action against a company?

Archive: 25 posts

i don't even know if that's the right title...

I've recently been unfairly perma banned from a site for the millionth time.
I have contacted the staff already but they're just giving me automated messages back.
Today is just where it stops for me. I made an account again, and i haven't even done anything wrong and suddenly i got a ban, without any ban reason at all!

I am not going to name the sites name but maaaaybe you might know...

Anyways, i'm not going to sit through a million automated helpdesk messages that won't deliver any result.
I want ALL of my accounts back.

The problems are, how can i do that? First off, i'm a 15 year guy from the Netherlands and they're a big company from the USA. Second, how do i do this!? Seriously, how?

Does anyone know what to do? I'm seriously starting to go mad and i want this banning to stop.

Well, what website is it? I have no idea about the legality of this stuff but surely anyone is free to prevent whoever they want from accessing their website? It may be unfair, but I'm not sure it's illegal or anything.2013-12-10 14:45:00

Erm... the thing is, most of the time they've unfairly removed a LOT of my accounts, most of the time i didn't even do anything wrong, or at least, the bans are way too high.2013-12-10 14:46:00

what website is it?

When you say a big company, is it just a big forum or something like youtube?

Even if you never did anything wrong, it's their forum and have every right to ban whomever they please. You really wouldn't have a case. Like, in the slightest.

And even so, if you keep making duplicate accounts after them having banned your original one, of course they would ban you. that's what a ban is for, to keep you off their forums. It's just common sense.

Basically, their forum is their house. Are you seriously going to pursue legal action to force them to let you in their house when they've forbidden you to do so? Your case would be thrown out even before anyone sees it.

Some sites don't like you having multiple accounts and have rules about creating new accounts to dodge a ban.2013-12-10 15:13:00

There's nothing wrong with multiple accounts since EVERYONE does that. Also, it's a game btw, and it's a game i've spent some money on in the past, which was basically wasted because of the broken unfair moderation system. No-one finds that bad or anything. The problem is that they've banned me for very unfair things (such as, just making a joke about someone gave me an IP ban and all my accounts got deleted. O_o).2013-12-10 15:18:00

Sorry mate, but I'm fairly certain you lost your case when you made a duplicate account. It sucks, I know, especially since you've sunk money into it, but you did, undoubtedly, break their terms of service.

I definetly think I know which game you're talking about.

"Horrible community that bans you with for no apparent reason"

Heard that intended as describing one game before.

I have yet to be permabanned from any site myself (I once got a 7 day ban from Habbo, but that's a different case), but I am certain that no staff of any site, even an American one, would ban one without reason. I am not trying to antagonize you or make you look guilty, but have you perhaps considered the possibility that you, unintentionally, repeat an action in those forums (such as spamming, using harsh language, trolling or being passive aggressive) which ultimately gets the ban-hammer to drop on you? I may be wrong, I don't know who you are are what you are like or what forums you have been visiting. I am just suggesting that perhaps a forums wouldn't ban the same person from their site million times for no reason.

Just something to think about.

WHOA! That site is so strict.

You may be admitting that you didn't do anything wrong, but whatever site you were going on, they probably take things too seriously. I agree that super-strict moderation systems shouldn't be allowed, but there's no reason to get revenge against them for it. I was mad at TV.com when they banned me, but I now accept my ban. So if you join another site and get banned from it, it's best to give up. I'm not being rude here, but there's no reason to keep creating accounts from a site you were unfairly banned.

We have unfortunately had to ban many members from this site. Most of them would argue that they did nothing wrong, but we have tons of proof otherwise. Now if the mods are super strict and overreacted that is one thing, but it makes me wonder. Why would you want to be on a site so badly that kicked you out, supposedly for not doing anything wrong? You can't play the game without the site?2013-12-14 13:27:00

Like, i mean, i made a joke about someone and that person was insanely offended for no reason at all, my entire account got deleted.2013-12-14 21:19:00

Could you post the joke on here including any context that would be useful?2013-12-14 21:48:00

Yes there is, in fact we ban duplicate accounts here. If someone is banned and they attempt another account we ban all duplicates no matter what. It's part of the rules you agreed to. I am sure you agreed to a set of rules when you signed up at the other site too.

Oh well... they have strict rules I suppose, but they also have the right to run the site however they want. Just because you don't like those rules, doesn't mean you are getting back in. Sorry..

Or he could post a small description (in-case he breaks this sites rules) and say what exactly the other person thought was offended.

I have to say tho if you were banned for one joke it would mean they are very strict (maybe the forum was a family site) or maybe it was a really offensive joke.

Time to move on I think, why try to keep going somewhere that doesn't want you? That's no fun.
If you post this joke of yours, maybe we can help point out why it may have offended said person to such a degree, I'm sure there is a reason.

Now that's a problem. Making a joke about someone is trouble, even if you try to stay appropriate as possible. I have to agree with LieutenantFatman that if you lose once, it's best to give up and move on. I know a few strict sites out there, and they may ban people for something that is generally harmless (like talking about favorites on a blog). They do it on the first warning and take it extremely seriously.

I've been banned multiple times here and I never do anything wrong. Ask Rock. He knows.

Perhaps you just don't remember what you did?

In any event, let's please keep this on topic. He's talking about a game he's been banned from, not this site.

You made a joke, which offended someone. I'm sure that violated some code of conduct and I'm sure you had to agree to some terms of service in which you agreed the owners of the game reserved the right to permanently ban anyone at their discretion. I highly doubt you have any chance of successful legal action.2013-12-15 18:19:00

You did many things wrong. Many, many things.

but Chaz is right, you were probably too drunk to remember

Anyway, on topic, it's the same as this. This site is... I guess Taffey's property now, so whatever he says goes. It doesn't have to make sense as to why he wants you off his property.

I don't think paying money affects it either way. And again, why do you want to go back to someplace that doesn't want you?

Never react to a ban by making duplicate accounts. Never. It's the worst thing you could possibly do if you want to be given a second chance. If possible, you should have contacted a moderator through a private message or e-mail.

I'm a mod at the portuguese Eurogamer, and the people who think it's okay to create account after account are the greatest annoyance I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Imagine if a guy constantly invited himself into your house, even though you made it clear that he's not welcome anymore. That's pretty much what you're doing.
