Building a Better LBP - Ideas for the Next Game
Archive: 9 posts
With LBPHub being announced with not much information given, it feels like it will not be a full-on game. Even though this is somewhat baseless, I believe it is a way of bridging LBP content between the PS3 and PS4. This brings up the question though: what changes should be made in LBP3? How can we build a better LBP? Even though I?m pretty sure everyone here loves LBP (I do too), it's rife with flaw: some major, such as a promotion system that continues to highlight utterly awful spam levels and some minor, such as clunky controls that feel awkward to a significant portion of players (whenever I have friends over, the comment on how awkward the movement is). When you include rampant connection issues and glitches, it is clear that there continues to be lots of room for improvement. Personally, I think that LBP has become increasingly stale. The features added in the recent DLC packs have been somewhat limited, and there haven?t been any game changing new features. Even LBPV (arguably the best game in the series), lacks anything that makes it truly unique, seeing as much of its Vita functionality could be mimicked through other means. Personally, I struggle to see what could be added in another 2.5D installation of the series. Extra layers do not seem that enticing, and merely including more logic would not seem like a huge improvement to the series. Even though there are many people against a 3D installment of the series on this forum, I think it is the best way of keeping the series fresh. It would allow for a refined movement system and more opportunities simply not possible in the current games. While I don't consider LBPK a particularly good game, it at least offered new opportunities in terms of what we could create, even if it was limited. The create mode of LBPK was awkward and limited, but it could be refined in many ways, such as allowing objects to be created in a traditional LBP way then applied to a 3D field with full rotation, etc. A 3D installment would allow for new kinds of level design as well. It would allow for camera perspectives and would allow for new kinds of levels. Obviously, this is just a wish list and it's unlikely they?ll be making a LBP3D anytime soon. There are obviously issues with a 3D create mode being too complex for most people, which is probably the main reason against a 3D installment. Regardless, what do you want to see in the next LBP game? Do you want it to be a drastic overhaul, or do you want it to stick to it's 2.5D roots? What improvements should be made to improve the LBP experience? | 2013-12-09 18:43:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Well, Media Molecule already more or less announced they are working on a 3D "Play create Share" game for the PS4 at the PS4 reveal. I don't personally think this is LBP3D and is instead a new IP, but we'll see. As for LBP3, if such a project is being made, I'd want them to not worry about carrying over levels from previous games this time and instead completely rework the engine instead of tying it down to previous games. I remember a lot of people were worried when LBP2 was announced that their previous levels wouldn't be useful any more, but I think MM making all LBP1 levels playable in LBP2 was a waste. They weren't able to completely reinvent the game, they had to make sure the previous levels were playable. And even that didn't work, but no one cared because no one plays LBP1 levels in LBP2 really anyway. So if you want to play the old LBP levels, play LBPHub, but they should get a clean break for LBP3. Otherwise, features for easier game development. Things like save states and packaging levels together in one file, so to speak, so that they are linked better. Give you the option to make a menu that remembers saved data from your various levels. Just making games easier to make rather than levels. I think LBP3 will be similar to the previous two games with minor tweaks, it being the "Safe" option for Sony, while Media Molecule's 3D project is what will be more risky and much more revolutionary. | 2013-12-09 18:53:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Allow people to "tip" creators with PSN money for their efforts. Maybe in units of $1.99 or $4.99. Creators put sometimes HUNDREDS of hours into their work and they do deserve compensation. If LBP3 keeps the the 2.5D look, make the 3D depth tool glitch an actual in game tool Keep the graphics quality somewhat the same, but make the thermometer 10x more expansive. Its way too limiting as it stands. | 2013-12-13 03:20:00 Author: bluearth Posts: 100 |
Just give me better graphics, a save system, a hub layer, a text tool and I would second the notion for increased thermo. DO IT NOOOWAA | 2013-12-13 03:24:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |

The gameplay system is fine. I wouldn't want to see that changed, except maybe to fix a glitch or two. The create system needs some new features, like...maybe the ability to actually write programming code or an LBP programming language for people who want to use it (it should make complex logic become relatively easier) Also, level links should go away, and there should be "subsections" of the same level (like the emit/destroy technique, but you specify each area and it's a lot easier than adding a million destroyers everywhere) Creators should be able to send their level to other creators (only on their friend list...if the creator deletes them, they can't enter or publish the level). This would be helpful for people who co-create together, they don't have to be online at the same time to work on the level. Also, levels copied by the copy feature shouldn't be allowed to be republished without the creator's permission.. I'm starting to ramble now so I'll stop here. | 2013-12-13 19:17:00 Author: AmazingKittyCat Posts: 204 |
1) Bigger levels (MB wise, although actual size would be nice too) 2) A very accurate percentage system 3) More tools (like built-it 3D tools, even if just for decor, and not for use as terrain) 4) Higher Hz 5) Please higher Hz 6) Option for laggy, but beautiful, or faster, and choppier 7) More user optimization in create mode (like the bots, and what they are able to do) 8) An active MM staff on LBP 9) Cross compatibility to play with members from LBP2 10) Copy lock 11) Increased tool functionality 12) Custom sticker maker (LBP Photoshop woot woot) 13 BIG ONE) The ability to upload MP3, and JPEG files (at least) to LBP, and/or export function for peoples music to their computers (I've heard some people wanting to but being unable to) 14) Add more customization to physics, and player ability per levels 15) Increase music building options (my music buddies think the music system is menial, and could be greatly improved) 16) Custom costume builder (like shoes, shirts, pants, hats, ETC.) OK, OK, I'm getting rambly, but I hope some of these ideas are used | 2013-12-15 08:09:00 Author: amiel445566 Posts: 664 |

There are so many complex logic mechanisms out there to do fairly simple tasks (eg recognising when switches need to be activated in a certain order), so I think more logic tools is a must. | 2013-12-16 10:08:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
