need some help making winch operated bridge
Archive: 3 posts
im currently making a level but im stuck on this part. i dont know what its callled, but i trying to make an old fashioned board thats attached to a few winches that when u get on it, it takes u to the other side of the part u need to go. kinda like an atomated brige thing. i saw this in the World of Skyland level and thought it was a very cool design. ive tried searching online but cant find anything to help. ive even tried a few things out myself to see if i can figure it out but no luck. does anyone know how to do this? id really appreciate the help. thanks | 2013-12-09 14:25:00 Author: jdeactor Posts: 2 |
Hey there. I'm not 100% sure I understand your question correctly, but below I've made a Winch-driven ferry to take you across a small body of water. http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/9431a07a4eca46933e7d5060a2fbc7fa7d464dc5.jpg (Made in LBP2, but the technique will still apply) If this is in fact the setup you're looking for, you can achieve it in the following fashion: Anchor Point(Start) --- Winch --- Raft(Sponge) --- Winch --- Anchor Point(Goal) The most important part of this setup is the Winches. - You will probably want the Winches to have identical dimensions (In the above case Min Length 2.5 - Max Length 52.5). - Setting them to Input Action [Forwards/Backwards] will give you basic control of their lengths with a signal. - Set the Time of the Winches to be twice* the time you want the "journey" to take. (I used 5.0s above). - The Winch closest to the destination (right side in the picture) should be set to Reversed [Yes]. It takes two clicks to successfully connect a Winch. The starting point of a Winch (the first click), will serve as the visual origin when the Winch extends and retracts. For the nicest visual representation, in the case above, you will want to attach the starting point of each Winch to either the Raft OR the Anchor Points - as long as you are consistent, you will achieve greater looking symmetry when the Raft is moving. I've made my raft out of a Sponge with a Grab Switch, and then the signal form this switch is wired into both Winches. You can use any method you like to trigger the Winches though (Player Sensors, Timers etc.). If this is not what you were looking for, please let me know, and I might try cooking up something new Good Luck * A side-effect of the [Forwards/Backwards] Input Action. | 2013-12-10 08:43:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
