Lyrical Levels

Ok, with the sudden urge of the music I am listening to, I decided I want to make some Lyrical levels, or levels synchronized with the lyrics of a song. How would this work? Well, looky here:

As I know, there will be no custom music in-game. However, that doesn't stop us from music playing a part in our levels. If you have a computer, you can EASILY play the song while playing the level.

In order to play lyrical levels, you would just have to start the song on iTunes (or whatever you may use to play music) & hit the musical block at the same time. This will start the conveyor belt, thus starting the level. If you do this, then you can synchronize the level you are making with on the song of your choice. You can then name your level 'Track Name - Artist Name' & there you go!

I am planning of making many of these, due to my love of music.

Should there be a pause button that stops the conveyor belt? IMO, this would interrupt the flow.

If a player cannot find 3 minutes (depending on the length of the track) of interrupted time, then maybe they shouldn't be playing the level.

Of course, the conveyor belt wouldn't have to go in a straight line, it could go diagonal I guess, but synchronization is essential, otherwise the level won't flow.

There can be obstacles of course, but the main attraction should be beautiful art that accompany the lyrics.

But for some people its impossible to hit the LBP-button and the iTunes-button.

Hm. Can you think of any way to fix that problem?

My Mac is in the same room as my PS3, just a few feet away.

It's a really interesting idea. Would the obstacles go in time with music? Because it reminds me of a PS1 game called Vib - Ribbon.2008-08-19 03:22:00

Yeah. The whole level would be synchronized to the song's lyrics. If the song has no lyrics, that is fine too. It would also be great put to techno.

No, there is no custom music in game, you cannot record real music. So my suggestion was just to play the song & hit the play button at the same time, starting the conveyor belt, thus starting the level. See my original post. 		2008-08-19 03:29:00

My Pc is right next to Tv...so this idea is good for me...

On another note...you could have lyrics randomly pop up in the level just as the song is going...that wold blow my mind if I was playing a level and listening to the song and see...the lyrics pop up in the level...just a thought...		2008-08-19 07:19:00

OH cool Marino, I missed this idea and yes it is a great Idea on using music. So it would totally work to something like this, I hope that MM does more with music and allow actual songs to be put in the game. But you have really come up with a idea that will make it possible to enjoy a song with a level, and than if they do allow more songs to be added you can than always add it to the level later but I wouldn't mind popping in a song to play a level.

Now I suggest to look at some of the cool animations that have been done with music, there is a really cool one that the level was created by the music by using a program.

I think with Sony's power in the music industry they would be able to help get music put in there from major artists and I can see this only help the music companies and can be interesting in help promote music.

See llittle sackboy bands and stuff, wow.

I would like the idea of making a level using a beatles song, like little submarine would be great. And you can have a littile yellow submarine that is through the level. Also throw a level that gives some love to Abbey road, maybe some of our friends from england can throw some stickers of things on abbey road.
